Best way to back up iPhone
4
Hi all - This group isn¡¯t seeing much traffic lately, but I have a question that some of you will be great at answering. I plan to take my iPhone 12 Pro in to an Apple store soon for a new battery and want to make sure it¡¯s fully backed up beforehand. There isn¡¯t enough storage left on my computer to back it up there, so I¡¯ll need to rely on other methods. What do you all recommend? I want my settings, photos (which I think are all backed up to iCloud already), contacts, and voice recorder memos especially. Thanks for the help! Patti

How to Mute a Call on Apple Watch
I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max and an Apple Watch Ultra. All the settings the article tells you to make are set correctly on both my devices but I cannot silence incoming calls using the sleep/wake switch, placing my palm over the watch face, or by pressing the side rotating button on my Watch. OTOH, all these methods work on my wife¡¯s iPhone and Watch. I have restarted both the Watch and the iPhone and they still don¡¯t work. Can anyone suggest some setting I may have missed? How to Mute a Call on Apple Watch https://osxdaily.com/2024/04/22/how-to-mute-a-call-on-apple-watch/ How to Mute a Call on Apple Watch Since the Apple Watch is tied to your iPhone, you¡¯ve likely noticed that phone calls can be made or answered on your wrist. While you might know how to answer or reject phone calls on the Apple Watch, did you know that you can silence or mute a call to your Apple Watch too? These are important tricks to know so that if your wrist starts buzzing and chiming and making a ringing sound while you¡¯re either in a public place, or wanting some peace and quiet, you can quickly mute the Apple Watch. We¡¯re going to show you two different ways to mute and silence calls on your Apple Watch, and they¡¯re both a little different but equally useful to know. Mute a Call on Apple Watch by Covering the Screen This is often the easiest way to mute a call that¡¯s coming into your Apple Watch, it¡¯s super simple: When a call rings on Apple Watch, place your palm over the watch screen to mute the call You will need to make sure that you have the ¡°Cover to Mute¡± feature enabled, which is on by default on Apple Watch. If not, go to Apple Watch Settings > Gestures > toggle on ¡°Cover to Mute¡±. This feature gesture has been around for ¡°>a while, so if you¡¯re a longtime Apple Watch user you may already be familiar with it. Mute Inbound Calls on Apple Watch with Side Button Another approach to silencing inbound calls on Apple Watch is to press a button when a call comes in: When a call rings on Apple Watch, press the side rotating button to mute the call This trick may be more familiar to those of you coming from a deep iPhone background where you¡¯re accustomed to silencing iPhone calls by hitting the Volume buttons. One advantage to the button press approach is that you can often do it one handed, depending on where your Apple Watch sits on your wrist, by simply flexing your hand and wrist up, or doing a push-up motion against a wall, or even against an object, and this can be useful when you¡¯re working out or your other hand is busy. Important: these tips work to mute incoming calls on a per-call basis It¡¯s important to note these tips will mute incoming calls only on a per-call basis. They will not permanently mute the Apple Watch, or phone calls on the Apple Watch. If you¡¯re looking to disable phone calls to your Apple Watch, that can be accomplished separately.

Contacts are being created on my iPhone

Contacts are being created on my iPhone automatically. I suspect this is from emails I receive. I do not want these to be created. Is there anything I can do to stop it from happening?

wireless Car Play adapter?
8
My 2021 Subaru Forester supports wired Car Play. However, my IPhone XR is too large for the closest USB location to store it securely with a short cable and winds up slipping around. Sometimes it manages to disconnect itself. I¡¯ve read about wireless CarPlay adapters but am not sure how well they work. For instance, how close does the phone have to be for the connection to work? Is there serious latency in response? What about Apple Maps driving instructions? If anyone has experience with this type of adapter I¡¯d love to hear about your experience, positive and/or negative. Many thanks, CD

Adding a language in 17.4
5
According to articles I¡¯ve read, in iOS 17.4 it is supposed to be possible to add a second language to Siri. I tried to do this in Settings with no luck. It¡¯s only possible to change the primary. Is there a step I¡¯m missing? CD

Cannot Pass Activation
7
Occasionally I see used iPhones for sale with comments like "Phone is in brand new condition but cannot pass activation, is locked to previous owner, can be use for parts only" Is this true? Is there no way of unlocking an iPhone in that state? Otto

Watch/iPhone communication issue
4
I have an iPhone XR and an AppleWatch 5 which have developed a communication problem with the Reminders app. They stopped responding to one another. If I use the Watch to create a new reminder it no longer appears on the iPhone and vice versa. This just started out of the blue. At the same time my Watch battery started running down much faster ¡ª literally overnight. Suddenly it runs down in less than a day. Can the two changes be linked somehow? I hope someone on the list who uses both Watch and iPhone has a suggestion. Rebooting doesn¡¯t fix the problem. Also, can the Watch battery be replaced? I know it¡¯s old, but I hope to hold off getting a new one since it does everything I need. CD

All this is just a test message. The company that runs these groups had a spam problem and we lost the ability to do anything here for a few weeks. It should be fixed now I hope. Rich

What to do if you were impacted by ¡°The Mother of All Breaches¡±
I got this from 1Password and will post it on the forums to which I subscribe The mother of all breaches (MOAB). That¡¯s how security experts are referring to the recent discovery of a massive database that is composed of data from thousands of previous breaches, leaks, and private data databases. ¡°But why should I care? How does it impact me?¡± The breach includes over 26 billion records. That¡¯s staggering. And that means if any of your accounts are included (or if you reuse passwords anywhere), you need to take action in order to protect yourself and your family. Volume Buttons
7
Ladies & Gentlemen I use an iPhone 6s I have noticed that when make or receive a call, the volume level, controlled by the + and - buttons on the left side is always at the mid point. I then have to increase the volume so I can hear the other person. But the next time, the volume has reverted to the mid point of the range. I need the volume on maximum all the time. Is there any way of setting it so the volume remains on maximum? Is Apple trying to protect my hearing? -- It's too late!! With seasonal greetings and my very best wishes for a Happy, Healthy, Peaceful, Successful, Prosperous, Covid- and Stress-free New Year. MC

The facial recognition is just so handy and I miss it. I am planning on getting the iPhone 15 soon Rebecca

Reminders problem
3
Has anyone noticed freezes and delays while using reminders after the iOS 17 update? Mine has been even more sluggish and quirky than it was under iOS 16. And it wasn¡¯t the most responsive then. I use this app a lot. It¡¯s getting seriously annoying. Blips off, takes forever to respond, slow updates from iPhone to iPad. That sort of thing.
