I can’t answer your question, but something else to consider. Is it sold as used, refurbished, open box or clearance? What is the return policy from the seller. At 50%, I tend to think used. Then you have look at the buyers risk aversion.?

My finances are poor, but I bought my current iPhone as a clearance of new old stock, with a new AppleCare plan. So I got low risk with a 50% discount. So it is possible to find screaming deals. I needed a new phone, just before a new model release. It was about 2 models behind, as their low price model, about to be 3 models behind, so they were dumping inventory to make room for the new. ?By accident I timed it right.?

You can often find renewed iPhone 14 Pro units at prices significantly lower than their original $999 starting price. These devices are still more than capable of handling anything you throw at them in 2025, making them a fantastic value for those wanting flagship-level performance without paying flagship prices. Right now, an unlocked iPhone 14 Pro with 128GB is $456 on Amazon.

If you are ok without the USB-C port (which 99% of people seem to be) and no Apple intelligence, then this price is an absolute steal. And the best part is you can just purchase a lightning to USBC adapter and get most of the USBC features.

Re: New iOS/iPadOS Status Icons

That info I found on the Internet about the new icon with arrows circling around a cog on a blue background was incomplete. I just downloaded a file from Google Drive and the icon appeared very briefly, while the file downloaded. So I “think” it indicates that a file is being downloaded, not just system updates. Of course the latter will be more obvious, because the files are so large.

Re: New iOS/iPadOS Status Icons

The first icon, arrows circling the settings cog displayed while the update was downloading the iPadOS 18.2.1 update. I have my iPad set to only download updates, so that I can do the actual install at my convenience. It disappeared after I applied the update.

The second icon has nothing to do with updates. As I said, I just ran across it and mentioned it because it was also said to be a new icon.

Thank you Bob. Sorry for my delay in response – Christmas and New Year coincide with several family birthdays and I have been a bit busy.

?

I decided years ago not to store my photos in icloud, and am turning over your suggestion in my mind. My phone has sufficient capacity to store all the images I want on it (nearly 3000, including undeletable junk). Also, I suspect your suggestion might not work as the work I have done on it looks like the software cannot find the images it is displaying. Sorry that sounds contradictory but it is as though the images are not there if you try to do anything with them.

?

Best wishes for 2025

Although I don’t understand why you can’t delete photos on your iPhone (I can do so by pressing and holding on a photo and selecting [Delete] from the pop-up menu) you absolutely can do so by logging into your iCloud account, opening Photos, and, on a computer, right-clicking on photos to delete them. ?You are warned as you delete them that they will be deleted on all your devices.

Problem resolved:

First, thank you to those that responded.?

Second, the problem was created by Nord VPN protection silently toggling on the VPN setting.?

I went to the Genius Bar for a hardware issue and the Apple Diagnostic software wouldn’t open. Even though I had not launched Nord VPN and had toggled the VPN off in the settings, it had sneakily reengaged. It was even preventing Apple’s own emails (eg from Game Center) from opening up the App Store.?

You didn’t indicate which is your default browser???The default browser app is set in the Settings app: Settings > Apps > Default apps > Browser app.

When you say “Gmail”, I’m presuming that you mean the Gmail app???If so…

I don’t use Gmail, but I’ve dug around and found a couple references that might, or might not, apply.

Others with a similar problem needed to change a setting within the Gmail app:

  1. Tap hamburger icon on upper left (3 horizontal lines)
  2. Scroll way down past your folders, and tap “Settings”.
  3. Scroll down and tap “Default apps”.
  4. In the Browser section, rather than selecting a specific browser tap “Default browser app”.?
  5. If you don’t want to be prompted every time to tap a link, then turn off “Ask me which app to use every time” in that section.

The only place in which I could find the "Couldn't reach server," error was under “"Couldn't reach server," "TLS Negotiation failed" error on the following webpage.??But that doesn’t seem applicable to me.

I hoped that would be the case. What’s odd is that Apple doesn’t offer this as a simple download. It was easy enough to combine the web pages into 1 file but why should it be necessary, and the file is surprisingly large at 10 MB.
