Can/will anyone explain. 2
I saw this on 9to5 Mac; about iPhone 14 pro units on sale at Amazon. You can often find renewed iPhone 14 Pro units at prices significantly lower than their original $999 starting price. These devices are still more than capable of handling anything you throw at them in 2025, making them a fantastic value for those wanting flagship-level performance without paying flagship prices. Right now, an unlocked iPhone 14 Pro with 128GB is $456 on Amazon. If you are ok without the USB-C port (which 99% of people seem to be) and no Apple intelligence, then this price is an absolute steal. And the best part is you can just purchase a lightning to USBC adapter and get most of the USBC features. I confess to being clueless as to what they are referring to when they say, "you can just purchase a lightning to USBC adapter and get most of the USBC features.¡±. Do they mean faster charging? What features? Thanks for any elucidation.

New iOS/iPadOS Status Icons 6
A Status Icon, which I haven¡¯t seen before, showed up on my iPad this morning. It¡¯s not on Apple¡¯s list of status icons yet, so thought I¡¯d share it with you. I also happened across another one, which I¡¯m attaching with the first one. In the process of syncing and finalizing a software update Appears briefly when connecting some USB hubs -- Ben in TX

New iOS a total mess 4
Both my wife's iphone and mine have been updated to iOS 18.2. Both are causing problems. Question 1: Where are the mail settings? I can find nowhere to change the mail password. My wife uses BTinternet mail and we changed her password on another device. Now she wants to access her mail on the iphone and it does not work as we have trawled around all the Settings and there is nowhere we can locate the btinternet mail settings. Why? Who does this? How do we change my wife's btinternet password? Question 2: Since update, my Photos are a mess. In the Library showing all recent images, and in one recent album I created there are a lot of unwanted and undeletable images. They appear to be fragments of recent web pages I browsed - not whole images but just bits. Lots of them. A real nuisance, there are so many. They do not delete (though they can be selected) and syncing via itunes with my laptop does not delete them. Nor does an attempt at deletion by direct connection to the laptop. I could not be more unhappy. Question 2 is a typical software glitch of an annoying kind but question 1 is a bad feature. Mail is a basic function, and modifying it has always been easy. Why change? Can¡¯t open or download redirected content 4
Hi all, I am having an issue with the latest version of iOS. Two different things are happening. Example 1: in the Masterclass App, I go to download a workbook yet it doesn¡¯t download on my iPad. It downloads on my iPhone. Both iOS versions are current. My guess is that when I go to download the PDF, it redirects me to the file source. Example 2: in Gmail on my iPad, I click on a link in something like ¡±Macworld Daily¡± to open one of a few articles and it won¡¯t open on my iPad but will on my iPhone. Often the message ¡°Server not found¡± is displayed. It seems like my iPad is redirecting to external servers to access content and something in iPad OS is preventing it while iOS is not. Anyone have any suggestions? iPad Pro running iPad OS 18.2 IPhone 14 Pro running iOS 18.2 Thanks, Gerry

iPhone 16 18
Is there a downloadable user guide? Did I miss something somewhere? Something (maybe w/ pix/diagram) to remind me of what each button does & what settings to do for what & so on. I'm migrating from a 2nd-gen-SE. PDF would be nice. I don't see anything in the iTunes store, and I'd prefer not to/shouldn't have to pay bigbucks for it. And going online to support for every question is {unladylike-language-here} bj

Incoming call settings 2
When I receive an incoming call on my iPhone, current or past sometimes the business name shows on the screen and other contacts the person name appears. I know that whichever I enter first when adding a contact is what appears on the screen AND also will be searchable. Other than deleting the contact and reentering is there a way to adjust?

Auto-lock on iphone 11 11
Yesterday I updated to iOS 17.7.2. Today I find my device auto-locks after 30 seconds (too short for me) and the switch has been deactivated in Settings/Display and Brightness. I cannot set it to the timing I want. What is going on? Nick Hudd. Kent UK.

Thanksgiving Greetings 3
This is directed at those in the US who celebrate Thanksgivings, but the well wishes is for all as we approach the various holidays. I am sending it early, since many of us will be off-line tomorrow. May you be thankful for what you have and those around you. May you have health, safety and prosperity going forward. I believe that my friend in the photo used this for an invitation to an ¡°Orphan¡¯s¡± Holiday Dinner we have both attended for years. You may recognize it as a remake of the album cover to "Alice¡¯s Restaurant Macacree¡±. Alice passed away on 22 Nov 2024, may she RIP. What password do they want? 4
With Sequoia on my 2020 iMac and iOS 18 on my iPhone 13, I am liking the iPhone Mirroring.app more than I thought I would. However, recently while working away on my iMac, the iPhone Mirroring app launched & I got this notification. I tried my iPhone PIN number & my iMac's admin password and both were rejected. Anyone seen this? Anyone know which password might work?

Google maps and CarPlay? 9
With no luck getting voice working in Maps on CarPlay, I¡¯m considering giving Google Maps a whirl IF it works through CarPlay WITH voice. Has anyone tried it? Success? Failure? My DH and I just drove back home to north central Vermont from mid coast Maine through the interior rather than skirting the White mountains via expressway as we¡¯ve done in the past. While Maps got us back ok, it sure would have been nice to get voice heads-up for turns. Curving two lane roads make taking directions from a screen less than ideal. CD

No sound in Maps 14
Maps no longer speaks directions even though I have it turned on in Settings. Same when I use CarPlay. Not sure if the updates to the new iOS screwed things up or not. Is anyone else having the same problem? Any ideas for a fix? I really miss the voice when I¡¯m driving. iPhone XR is completely updated. CD

Wi-Fi is now OFF or Fixed or Rotating
Am I the first one to encounter this??? First time since upgrading to iOS 18, I asked for the WiFi password at a doctor¡¯s office and much to my surprise, when you now go to Settings > WiFi > Join This Network you are offered three choices: Private - Fixed - Rotating. I looked them up on Perplexity.AI and got this: In iOS 18, Apple has introduced a new feature for Wi-Fi address management, offering users three options when joining a Wi-Fi network: Fixed, Off, and Rotating. This change replaces the previous "Private Wi-Fi Address" toggle with more granular control over how your device identifies itself on Wi-Fi networks. Let's break down each option: ## Wi-Fi Address Options in iOS 18 ### Off When set to "Off," your iPhone uses its hardware MAC (Media Access Control) address[5]. This is the device's original, factory-assigned MAC address that doesn't change. While this option provides the most consistent connectivity, it offers the least privacy protection. ### Fixed The "Fixed" option uses a private Wi-Fi address that remains constant for that specific network[5]. This address is different from your device's hardware MAC address but doesn't change over time for the particular network you're connecting to. Apple sets this as the default option for networks using WPA2 or stronger security[5]. ### Rotating When set to "Rotating," your device uses a private Wi-Fi address that changes every two weeks[5]. This option provides the highest level of privacy protection by making it more difficult for networks to track your device over time. Apple sets this as the default for networks with weak or no security[5]. ## Impact and Considerations - **Privacy**: The Rotating option offers the best privacy protection by regularly changing your device's network identifier. - **Connectivity**: Some networks that rely on MAC address recognition for authentication or personalized services may face challenges with the Rotating option[2]. - **User Experience**: With the Rotating option, users might need to re-authenticate on some networks every two weeks[6]. - **Network Management**: IT administrators may need to adjust their network policies and tools to accommodate these new options, especially for networks that use MAC address-based access control or monitoring[4]. By offering these choices, Apple aims to balance user privacy with network compatibility and user convenience. Users can now choose the level of privacy protection that best suits their needs for each Wi-Fi network they join. Better iPad vs iPhone Camera for Photo¡ª>.PDFs? 10
Please consider my taking close up photos of documents from legal to letter to just personal check sizes, intending to convert to a .pdf and email each document to a business partner (he asked for .pdfs not usual hard copies). Which of my Apple cameras, iPhone 11 or iPad 9th, would produce better images or have any advantage over the other? I sent him about 50-75 such .pdfs already, made with a big quite old scanner at a local big box store. Images not bad but very inconvenient, VERY slow and tedious old scanner operation and expensive. Then too late as usual I think I had a better idea. A couple of test photos with my iPhone 11 made good .pdfs. I have another dozen or more to go. Any thoughts? Many thanks, Dick ----------------------------- Richard E. Johnson, ScM, MD recmsoj1@... recmsoj@... recmsoj@... Sent from iPad (9th)(2) iPadOS 18.1 iPhone 11 iOS 17.7.1
