Apple is good and fast with repairs, but obviously you have not dealt with AppleCare or repairs with Apple. You seldom get to speak to the same person when you call. They often don't make repairs in the stores, it is more often an exchange. AppleCare call centers do not do repairs, and stores do not accept mailed in hardware. Both will arrange expedited shipping to Repair Centers, a third location.
But when was the last time you went 3 to 4 days without a phone, forgetting about social media, and just thinking of critical communications?

I have an Apple Store 20 minute drive from me, and I *have* had Applecare repairs on Mac computers (but not iPhones or iPads). I’ve had Mac laptops for over 20 years.
The significant problems needed to be sent off (as opposed to fixed in store). One time, with a brand new machine, they pulled it off the repair line to do a complete disassembly for Quality Assurance purposes, but someone forgot to make the notation to “send customer a new machine”, and I had to call to ask about it before they sent a new one.
Another time, I had *a* problem (that I knew about), but when I got it back from Texas, in a matter of 4 days or so, they had replaced the screen, the motherboard, and much of the innards. Under Applecare.

I miss the magnifying glass too, whoever got rid of that has done iOS a big disservice. However if you get the insertion bar close, then click and hold the space bar, you can accurately position the insertion point by sliding on the space bar.? Not intuitive at all.? Ken G. Brown

The only times I cannot place a cursor is when I have absentmindedly tried to do so while in read mode (as opposed to when composing or replying).
Since the cursor is actually an *insertion* point, it’s only present in compose mode. If you’ve swiped the keyboard down off the bottom of the screen in compose mode, tapping where you want the insertion point places it, and also brings up the keyboard.
Also, if you tap-and-hold on the space bar, the keyboard turns into a trackpad until you lift your finger, letting you slide the insertion point all over the message.

Re: Selecting Text in New iOS
I find that I can "cut" words/phrases from the screen but it?doesn't always allow me to "paste" MC
This sounds like you are still in “read” mode, not in “compose” mode.

Re: Selecting Text in New iOS
Now that the question has been posted. I see the problem. I can’t place the cursor anywhere without the keyboard up. It just highlights a word with no cursor to be seen. What’s up with that? ?I can’t get it to work without the keyboard. Interesting and frustrating. ? Sue.?
There’s no need for an insertion-point unless you’re in compose-mode, and then you have a keyboard present.

It did change. Now hold down the space bar until the keyboard letters disappear and slide your finger left or right while still pressing the space bar. The cursor will move where you need it. Can move up or fine to by moving finger up or d down. ?I guess one can see the movement easier without ones finger in the way. I am undecided which is easier.?
