Here are the 2 basic positions.

Would any other list-members like to offer opinions?

If it is the consensus of the list-owner and moderators, I’ll remove it.
Personally, I would like to see more of them, because I find it useful to *see* with whom I’m interacting.

Each image adds to the groups’ maximum file size for attachments but having capability of attachments can be useful. My preference would be to embed a link in your “attachment” in the email so it loads when the message is displayed. If you have a place on line where your picture is stored that works out well. If not it’s hard to do without making individual copies of the attachment in each message

Jim, look around. I think we have. You started using your photo over a year ago, and no one else has added a photo. One or two use a image, but most are business owners promoting their business. So to make a quick tally:

photo 1 ?/ ?logo 2 (benefit of the doubt) ?/ text signature ?about 5 ?/ ?nothing, not even a text signature ?243

Yeah, it is just a straw poll, but I think the results are in. Although, I suggest we start including a basic text sig occasionally, if not each new thread, of our basic system.

If you have an image for the person, then put it in your contacts and Mail.app will include it when you read the email. But with every post, it takes up space in the groups data allocation, EVERY TIME.

And I noticed you include an image with your posts.

Good thought, but that only works if we run a server. Many, if not most do not. Mail.app will include an image, if your put one in your contact.?

If it is that important, to the recipient, I suggest that as a solution. Of list members, I have found a desire to have three images show. One in England, but from a defunct list, and he was wearing Victorian re-enactment garb, Roger. One in Belgium who impressed me with his knowledge, but lurks now, hi Ian. And gawd know why, he infuriates me, but I respect his knowledge, Jim S.?

I have been a member of ?various Apple groups since 1998, and posted my image, once. So if someone wants my ugly image, dig now in the early post of this list in groups.io, or send me a private email, and I will send you an image, suitable for your dart board.

It would be more helpful to have your basic system listed in a signature, like below.

In my mind, the question is - what does an image, graphic, or photo ADD to the information being sought and/or volunteered?

An image indicating contact information for a member's Mac repair business is very relevant.?

Personal photos in signature lines are more relevant when people are trying to prove they're not 13. If 13 year old member on the list posted an articulate question or response, their age becomes irrelevant. If the information is accurate and well-phrased, they could be any age, any gender, from any location, etc.

So I'll ask - Jim, what does the photo of you add to your post? If it's just for the sake of it, I think you need to take to heart that there are actual reasons NOT to do it.

I'm not opposed to it, personally. "Selfish" is choosing your own want over someone else's need, but you do what you gotta do.?

Ultimately, like I said before, when our ?storage runs out the oldest attachments will be automatically delected to make room for new attachments. By Jim adding his photo to every email really won’t make that much difference because if his photo happens to be the oldest attachment it will get deleted first.

And I do not routinely add everyone on a list I’m on to my Contacts.
And where would I get images of list members to add to my Contacts if I wanted to?

But with every post, it takes up space in the groups data allocation, EVERY TIME.

I notice that posts my image in every post I send, IF it is viewed on the website, but NOT if it is sent out as email.

In my mind, it provides HUMAN contact in a HUMAN conversation.

An image indicating contact information for a member's Mac repair?business is very relevant.

What *I* am running is often not very relevant to the OP’s complaint.?When it is, I include that info as part of the conversation.
I certainly don’t think it needs to be on EVERY posting.

So I'll ask - Jim, what does the photo of you add to your post? If it's just?for the sake of it, I think you need to take to heart that there are actual?reasons NOT to do it.?

Let me answer that indirectly.
Having an image of YOU on a post to which I am replying gives ME a?much better feeling for the person with whom I am conversing. More like?a face-to-face conversation between real people.

The difference in message size between image the way I’m now doing it and no image is about the same, or less, as the difference between sending in RTF versus sending in plain text.

I'm not opposed to it, personally. "Selfish" is choosing your own want?over someone else's need, but you do what you gotta do.

Oh, come on. I’m sure you could phrase that with greater personal hostility if you just put your mind to it.

I have my own signatures with photos and/or graphics. I love them. It makes me feel like I put more effort into the message I'm sending. Email can be impersonal and there are times when I really wish I could have written a note or embossed it or something. I have my own reasons for liking images and color. I make sure I host those images instead of attaching them, but that was my preference. When I say "you do you" I actually mean it. I don't have a preference as to what you do with your email signature line. Your photo has been attached to your signature line for a while. I didn't give it a second thought until this discussion arose.?

I do have to say it is pretty damn ANNOYING to have to go to the bottom of the message menu and hit remove attachments. I agree with Tiffany, Jim. Get over it. I am sure by now we have all seen your face. Nobody else is that—to use her word—selfish.
