There was no obscenity in my post, even though I wanted to. I am sick of having to delete his picture every time I see a message from him. Maybe it bothers me more than it does others, but I notice that Tiffany Hahn also is annoyed.

An image indicating contact information for a member's Mac repair business is very relevant.
Personal photos in signature lines are more relevant when people are trying to prove they're not 13. If 13 year old member on the list posted an articulate question or response, their age becomes irrelevant. If the information is accurate and well-phrased, they could be any age, any gender, from any location, etc.

In my mind, it provides HUMAN contact in a HUMAN conversation. An image indicating contact information for a member's Mac repair?business is very relevant.
What *I* am running is often not very relevant to the OP’s complaint.?When it is, I include that info as part of the conversation. I certainly don’t think it needs to be on EVERY posting. So I'll ask - Jim, what does the photo of you add to your post? If it's just?for the sake of it, I think you need to take to heart that there are actual?reasons NOT to do it.?
Let me answer that indirectly. Having an image of YOU on a post to which I am replying gives ME a?much better feeling for the person with whom I am conversing. More like?a face-to-face conversation between real people.
The difference in message size between image the way I’m now doing it and no image is about the same, or less, as the difference between sending in RTF versus sending in plain text. I'm not opposed to it, personally. "Selfish" is choosing your own want?over someone else's need, but you do what you gotta do.
Oh, come on. I’m sure you could phrase that with greater personal hostility if you just put your mind to it.

No, we ALL are NOT annoyed. It appears that three folks are annoyed and causing all the bickering. If the moderators agree that it is ok for the picture, then it is ok. Either ignore or remove the picture if you want. There have been two or three folks that have expressed approval. I have no problem with the picture. You do. That’s OK. We can agree to disagree, but please BE CIVIL about it. It seems that the vast majority of folks do NOT have a problem with the picture. Could we possibly end this thread and go back to broken computers, phones and OS!? Fully expecting to be the recipient of flames over this, but please, STOP IT! Actually, it looks like it started out as Testing an Attachment, someone changed it to Signature Attachment, then hash tags added #MacSupportCentral.
At least that is how Mail.app shows the thread.
Personally, I can do without the additional #(hashtag) or the change in subject line.
I normally don't read by thread, and when I am on my iPad, I don't believe it is available in Mail.app. Not that I have looked for threading in iOS.

.i wish everyone used them!...being able to see an image of the poster is significant...i'd put my image in my sig in a heartbeat if i knew how to do it...btw, it ain't about vanity; it's about connection.
I’m hesitant to prolong this discussion, given how much acrimony it’s engendered, but I’ll ask one more naive question. If I do find a “sfw” potential avatar, will it bloat the size of every post I make, or will it actually be stored on the io groups servers and be “loaned” to the posts?
And, at the risk of prolonging it, I’d like to note that reading this group on iOS (at least as I have it configured in iOS mail on my iPhone 11 Pro) is really painful. Every single message in a conversation appears every time a new message is posted in the topic, along with all the html links that live inconspicuously at the bottom of the message panel on a Mac, but appear as equals with the message itself in iOS. I don’t know if this is the only option.

Yeah, but looking at your email app, try and accurately find it every time, when a little time has passed. You also threw up some dust by attributing it to the wrong person.

1st... to quote text just select the text to quote and hit reply. This works on the web site as well as mail.app. 2nd. To use you group profile photo without it ending up like text you have to embed the html into the message. I havn’t exactly figured that out because it appears to be difficult to do on the iPad. The tools provided by groups.io may not let you do it.

I agree with Bob Beckham. I am not annoyed. What one chooses to do on one’s signature often has to do with one’s profession. For instance, I put Ph.D. at the end of my signature and was accused of vanity or showing off. I did that because I am a translator and in my day there was no professional degree in translation so the Ph.D. was a way of indicating that I knew what I was talking about so that I would get the translation job. I actually like photos, it does make more of a connection.? I envy the people whose lives are so perfect that they have time to complain about a signature!
