Re: Zoom vs. Teams

I had an explosive experiment with MS Teams and breakout rooms... aka some people joined the call just fine but when they tried to join the breakout they were kicked out of the call... I think they were mostly OSX clients, I had a contingency?plan so I didn't spend too much time debugging it.

Has anybody else countered this problem?? Any Fixes?

Btw Microsoft says:

How do I make sure I can start using breakout rooms?

Make sure that the new meeting experience is enabled (Teams -> Settings -> General -> Check ¡°Turn on new meeting experience¡±)??

For the love of Pete I can't find it. And I (Team admin) can see the breakouts so?I am a bit puzzled.

Re: Zoom vs. Teams + Introducing MURAL to groups

I use Miro with my online classes (they have a free educator account). I¡¯ll send the link to the board we are working on in chat and encourage students to create their own boards, but it¡¯s been more of a trial by fire. You see students accidentally drawing lines and arrows instead of placing sticky notes at the start. But they seem to pick it up pretty quickly.

Since my audience is mostly under 30, I use video game analogies, which are particularly helpful for the map. It¡¯s a BFA program that uses a lot of Adobe tools so they are generally pretty adept with it once they understand the tools.

Re: Work Around for Q&A when using regular Zoom

Hi Laurie,

Those GroupMaps that Jeremy shared look outstanding and would help take the proposed Q&A format to a whole new level.

Usually when organizations plan to have just Q&A it's not a very empowering event.? Using something like GroupMaps shows participants that their ideas (and not just their questions) matter.? It gives them a voice.

I've shared some examples of Panel Discussion Q and A (Fireside chat and ask a speaker style) based on 2 public events that I was also involved in case you wanted to see how it was done with GroupMap. One format just happened?to be more simple than another so it depends if you would like questions directed at a speaker or just a general list of questions. One was just a list with vote ups, whereas the other allowed people to add comments and then vote for an activity at the end.

Hope this is helpful.

Re: Work Around for Q&A when using regular Zoom

Hi Laurie,

The simplest solution may be to?use the regular Zoom chat feature to host your Q&A.? This requires a tech host to gather questions and present them to the speaker so that the speaker doesn't have to sort through the whole chat.

If you do not want participants sharing public messages, you can restrict the Zoom chat so that participants?can only send a message to the hosts with this setting (screenshot attached):
Allow meeting participants to send a message visible to all participants

If that doesn't meet your needs, please mention why and we can all think of other solutions.?

Re: Work Around for Q&A when using regular Zoom

Do you use PollEverywhere? They have a type of poll called Q&A.
What's great about this is that not only can participants provide their questions, these are visible to all participants who can then vote them up and down. The dynamic list changes as the popular items rise to the top.?

This feature is really helpful as a moderator - while it does not direct me on which questions to select, it does give me a sense of the "room" as to which questions are most valued by the participants.

(Zoom polls only allow single choice or multiple choice responses, not open text as you need for questions)

When I use PollEverywhere with a Zoom meeting, there are different options for how to engage participants:
a) Ask participants respond?by text message (works well if all participants?are in the same country)
b) Ask participants?to install the PollEverywhere app and respond from their phones (worth it if you are using multiple polls)
c) Send a link through the Zoom chat to the PollEverywhere site (not the general website, but the particular page for your account to receive poll responses)
This option means that a browser window will open for these responses, and will sit alongside the Zoom app during the session.

Re: Zoom vs. Teams

I posted yesterday on this topic (my first post) but do not see it today. Although it seems straightforward, the procedure for posting to a thread is a little daunting first time through. I believe this is a reply to the Zoom vs Teams topic.

Yesterday I posted that indeed this exact topic took up a large portion of a day just this week and my final learning was that MURAL does not work well with Teams if you work as a consultant/facilitator outside the organization.? I have a few clients who are comfortable with Teams and adamant about not using Zoom.
?
I am interested to know how people have incorporated workarounds (until such a time as compatibility improves). My recent workaround was implemented for a conference session I conducted with over 100 attendees. Attendees saw my MURAL screen on Zoom and posted notes in the chat which were then placed onto the MURAL by 2 facilitators who assisted me with the session.?

Not ideal, but I am thinking about maybe training a facilitator to assist me with clients as a way to introduce them and perhaps persuade them to see the benefits of collaborative tools.

Re: Zoom vs. Teams

Thank you David and Nancy, this is right on time. I spent a good part of yesterday mucking around with Teams and MURAL to see if I could integrate MURAL with Teams for a client group who exclusively uses Teams. My concern is that if the client does not have a Mural subscription then the experience will be quirky.? The MURAL site has help docs on the integration but does not answer my question directly.

A chat response to my question was this:? "The team doesn't need to have a subscription to MURAL to access the tool through MS Teams and should be able to integrate with the app."

What I am learning here is that in fact my ability to collaborate with the team will be limited.?

Please keep this thread going and let us know if there are any workarounds. My experience with introducing new platforms to clients is exactly the same as Francois and once they have a bad experience, they give up. This is one of the great challenges of working as an outside consultant.

My first post, thanks!
