JAWS not Announcing Columns in Word
Perhaps this is some clash with Microsoft's automation, but the latest JAWS has stopped announcing coumns when I change from say column 1 of 3 to column 2 of 3. JAWS has a maze of settings, but I pressed insert+F2, chose Quick Settings, then wentdown to the Tables section, and discovered it was set to read row and column titles, the cell coordinates and other things. There was nothing where it was not set to read anything. JAWS is still saying when rows change, though when navigating with arrows suggests rows are new when they have been there a long time. Do any of you have suggestions as to if there may be something wrong that I can easily change, like checking or unchecking a box in a list of settings, or is this a bug? -- Wayne Senior, Dewsbury, England. Latest versions of Jaws, Windows and Office unless otherwise stated.

Dynamics issue
6
Hi people, My employer is moving our CRM to MS Dynamics 365 Generally speaking, most screen elements work as expected. Where I am having grief is that the left side panel appears to be inaccessible to Jaws. I tried accessing it using F9 to find its frame. I tried tabbing around and a sighted person told me the cursor is moving in a circle around the middle panel but not interacting with the left side panel. I tried F6 to move to different navigation regions without success. I tried the Jaws cursor without any luck. Sighted folk can see a home button but not even find and replace locates it. My understanding is that Dynamics is supposed to be out of the box accessible so I am perplexed to know if the issue is a Dynamics one, a fault on my behalf as a Jaws user or a mix of both. Just wondered if anyone has any suggestions? I have noticed that the screen seems to have a high refresh rate so Jaws will often repeat things like 15 search results every ten seconds or so. My browser is Chrome Jaws is version 2024, latest version updated today I am using Windows 10 Enterprise on a Lenovo laptop With thanks Murray CAUTION : If you have received this message in error, please notify the sender. Getting copies of my own emails
6
I have my groups.io settings to not send me copies of my own emails and up until recently this worked. But now, and only for this group, I am all of a sudden getting copies of my own emails again. So what's the story? Did the owner of this group decide that we needed this, never mind that we may not want it? Gene...

Podcast & RSS feed reader?
Hi! I have been using Luna RSS but am now looking for something similar that is actively supported. Several emailed requests for support have gone unanswered and it has been a long time since the last update despite there being several obvious bugs. I am running Windows 10 Home with JAWS 2024, both 64 bit. Thanks! Gene...

FYI: New update
6
FYI: There is a new 2024.2312.99 (February 2024) update. There seems to be only a few minor (major for some the particular programs affected) enhancements to a few sluggish behaviors with JAWS. My best advice, go to the FS website to download it as the ¡°Check for Updates¡± in the Help menu is broken and will not work. Believe me, it doesn¡¯t ? Jen

Hello and question
4
Hello to all. I am new to this list and I joined to learn a bit about JAWS scripting. I consider myself much more than a beginner but not totally an advanced user. I came to JAWS from WindowEyes, where I could create SET files to help non-standard programs to speak. I am looking to create a script for a specific program where most needs are to define a specific area of the screen and to either make it talk with a hot key or have it talk when text within it changes. It seems that frames might do most of the work, but whenever I say the word frames, script writers all say that these are not used any more. However, no one answers the question of how this is done with scripts. If anyone on this list is willing to answer a few questions or guide me on how to accomplish a task, I would appreciate it. I can be contacted via email or I could pass along a phone number, if this would be easier. I have done a fair amount of programming in my day so I can follow the manuals or the script list with the ways to use them. Thanks in advance for any help. Jim Antonacci nfbpatr@...

Jaws accessible software
6
Hello all, I'm new and happy to be here. I'm using Jaws 2023 and Jaws 17 on Windows 10. I'm looking for some software that's compatible with Jaws and I'd appreciate any guidance. Specifically, I'm looking for an FTP software (to upload my webpages) and a tax software to prepare federal income taxes as well as NYS taxes. The IRS has a list of free tax software; which of them is compatible with Jaws? This link takes you to the list: https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/browse-all-offers/ Thank you so much! Shirrley

Help me save Gmail's Basic HTML view Pt 1: Feedback
2
Hello All, This may be off-topic, but I feel so strongly about this that I'm prepared to risk the moderator's wrath. As you know, Google are planning to shut down Gmail's Basic HTML view in February. I've been using the Basic HTML view almost exclusively for as long as it's been around. Being forced to switch to the Standard view now would be jarring. And having to say goodbye to the Basic HTML view would be like losing an old friend. So I'm on a mission to persuade Google to reconsider. I'm hoping if enough people make enough noise, they might have a change of heart. One thing you could try is to send feedback to Google. Instructions below. If anyone has difficulty giving feedback, please contact me off-list: 1. Open Gmail in Standard view in an Incognito window (or whatever it's called on Edge or Firefox) and sign in if prompted. 2. Make sure the PC Cursor is active if using JAWS, or Browse Mode if using NVDA. 3. Press Ctrl+Home to move to top of page. 4. Press B four times to reach the Support menu and press Enter to open. 5. Press UpArrow once to reach the "Send feedback to Google" option and press Enter. 6. When the "Send feedback to Google" dialog opens, press Tab twice to reach the "Report an issue" button and press Enter. 7. Tab over to the "When you noticed this issue, what were you trying to do?" menu and press Enter to open. 8. Arrow down to the "Send or receive email" option (or whichever option you prefer, I don't think it matters) and press Enter. 9. Press Tab once to reach the "Describe your issue" textbox. Ironically, this is buggy. Every time I type a character, JAWS speaks the character and adds the phrase, "describe your issue." So type out your issue description elsewhere before copying and pasting it into the textbox. Mine goes a little something like this: # # # # I'm blind and rely on a screen reader called JAWS. It's a software application that enables me to use my Windows PC. With it, I can manage files and folders, surf the web, and send and receive emails. And Gmail's Basic HTML view is my preferred email client. I've been using it for as long as it's been around. It may not be as pretty or as fully-featured as the Standard view, but it's simple and intuitive, fast and responsive, has low bandwidth requirements, and works well with older browsers and older screen readers. Basic HTML view is not only used by the blind/visually impaired. Many other cohorts in the general population also rely on it, such as dyslexia sufferers, people with photosensitive epilepsy, people with an intellectual disability, and people in developing countries who don't have access to high-speed broadband or who can't afford the latest assistive technology. And last but not least, the brave men and women in the armed services who find themselves in remote parts of the globe where Internet connectivity is provided via a painfully slow satellite link, and who wish to stay in touch with loved ones back home. I've been using the Basic HTML view for so long that it's become second nature or muscle memory to me now. If I'm forced to switch to the Standard view after all these years, it might impose such a cognitive load as to adversely affect my productivity and negatively impact my ongoing search for gainful employment. It would also reduce my ability to communicate effectively with family, friends, health professionals, and government agencies (social welfare, revenue, etc). This is nothing short of discrimination as laid down in equality legislation, in my opinion. And this is why I'm asking Google to reconsider their decision to shut down Gmail's Basic HTML view. # # # # But please feel free to give your own reasons in your own words why Google should keep Gmail's Basic HTML view. 10. By the way, don't include any personal or sensitive information in the "Describe your issue" textbox. When you've finished stating your reasons why Google should keep the Basic HTML view, press Tab twice to reach the "We may email you for more information or updates" checkbox. Tick it or leave it unticked as you prefer, but I ticked mine. 11.

Jaws 24 and e mail
6
Hi all So since I just updated my jaws to the newest version, I find and notice that when I go to my outlook and create a new e mail, jaws will not automatically complete my addresses. It will do it 2 out of 5 times or so. Has anyone else experience this thing? Jaws and system volume in J2024 December release.
3
Hi everyone. I have just noticed that if I decrease the system volume. The Jaws volume also decreases, of course using the Jaws layer volume. Conversely, it I decrease only the Jaws volume, it works as expected, meaning that the system volume remains unchanged. Running Windows 11 and Jaws 2024 December release. Anyone else having this issue? Cheers, Leo Bado. I have found both freedom of loneliness and the safety from being understood, for those who understand us enslave something in us. Khalil Gibran.

same page links
3
Hi everyone! Simple question, I think. How do you get same page links to work? I press Enter while focused on a same page link, but when I continue browsing, I discover that my focus hasn't moved, I am still focused on the same page link that I "clicked" on only now it says visited. So does JAWS support same page links or doesn't it? And if it does, what do I have to do to get them to work? This problem has been there a while, it's not new. Thanks! Gene...

JAWS Keystrokes Documentation - Can it be called up "on demand" from within JAWS?
8
It has driven me crazy for years that Freedom Scientific doesn't seem to produce a comprehensive User's Guide for JAWS (or at least I've never found one), but they definitely have the JAWS Keystrokes available in several different formats. But if there is a way to call up that Keystrokes information document from within JAWS if you want to do a quick search of that document I don't know it. That command for both the on demand display (in your default web browser) of the NVDA Commands Quick Reference and User Guide have existed for years. I keep hoping that I've missed the development where the equivalents in JAWS arrived. -- Brian ¡¤ ¡á? ¡¤ ???? - Virginia, USA - Windows 11 Pro, Version 23H2, Build 22631; M365 Family; Android 13 (MIUI 14) I prefer true but imperfect knowledge, even if it leaves much undetermined and unpredictable, to a pretense of exact knowledge that is likely to be false. ~ F.A. disabling navagation quick keys for good

Hi all, I¡¯m on X and as you know in order to use keyboard shortcuts navigation quick keys have to be suspended but as there¡¯s no way to get notified of new posts and I follow several sports insiders I check my home timeline several times a day and it gets annoying having to turn off navigation quick keys every time (it¡¯s just so much easier navigating my home timeline using the keyboard shortcuts) I¡¯m wondering is there any way to just turn them off for good? Really hope someone can help me, Madison

jaws
Hi, yes, so what I did is went in and put on file explorer in control panel and allowed hidden files, and then just removed all the freedomscientific stuff, and then had to do a jaws repair. And then had to then download from the site. Still does not show me the jaws folder. Very strange. Might have to reach out again to freedomscientific and see if a bug and then fix. Marvin.
