Is it possible to create a JAWS script that runs only on a specific website URL?
3
Hi all, I understand that JAWS allows us to create application-specific scripts, such as those targeting web browsers like Chrome or Edge. I¡¯m interested in going one step further ¡ª is it possible to create a JAWS script that activates only when a specific URL is loaded in the browser (e.g., example.com)? The goal is for the script to be active and perform custom logic only on that particular website, while doing nothing on any other tabs or sites in the same browser. If this is achievable, what would be the best way to detect the current page's URL or domain from within a JAWS script? Any advice, best practices, or examples would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Gaurav

Anyone else having problems with the JAWS Help System
I downloaded it today from: JAWS Help System (ZIP file) It's unzipped, and I can fire it up by activating JFW.chm, but what it doesn't do is display topics after performing a search. Here's what I'm doing after the Help system is open and the screen is maximized, and I am in the Search tab: 1. Type the word "speech" in the edit box for the keyword to find. 2. Locate Speech Output Types, make sure it's selected. 3. Navigate to the Display button and activate. End result: nothing is shown. This is not exclusive to that topic, either. No matter what I search for, and no matter what I select in the list of topics returned, when I activate the Display button nothing changes in the reading pane. After having searched, all links shown in the reading pane no longer function nor does most of the Help system functionality, period. It seems like the search function is not only broken, but is causing the entire help system to collapse if it's used. If I exit the help system and restart it, things are fine until and unless I try to search for something. Can anyone else replicate this behavior using the version of JAWS Help that is available at the link at the beginning of this message? -- Brian ¡¤ ¡á? ¡¤ ???? ¡¤ Virginia, USA - Windows 11 Pro, Version 24H2, Build 26100; M365 Family; Android 13 (Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.10.0) Tolerance is the positive and cordial effort to understand another's beliefs, practices, and habits without necessarily sharing or accepting them. ~ Joshua Liebman

Moving focus to notification pop up
5
Hello, I use Jaws 17, Jaws 2023 and 2025 on Windows 10 Pro. Whenever a Windows notification pops up, such as from Quick Share, how do I get Jaws to focus on it so I can click on the options? For example, when I use Quick Share to transfer files from my phone wirelessly to my laptop via Bluetooth, a window will pop up on my laptop asking me to accept the transfer, but I cannot get Jaws to move to that notification for me to click on Accept, therefore failing the transfer every time. Also time is of the essence, as it only gives you a short time to click on Accept before the transfer is aborted. Thank you. Shirley

Jaws on tablets?

Hi all, Can Jaws be used on tablets? If so, which brands? And if so, will navigation using a physical keyboard be like how Jaws is used on PCs/laptops? Thank you. Shirley

Will Buy: old JAWS Tapes
(Admin Note: Please reply off-list. Although JAWS-related, there are a few legal concerns with this. Thanks! --Jen) Hi All, I am interested in buying any old JAWS training tapes people might have laying around, especially version 3.0 or earlier. Also JAWS for DOS. My goal is to preserve them and share them with other retro access tech enthusiasts. If you have any you would be willing to sell, please contact me privately. Thanks. Ameer

Freedom Scientific Training Podcast Archive - Searchable
Over time I've seen people make reference to all sorts of Freedom Scientific Training Podcasts that could be very useful to any screen reader user, but in times past I haven't found that Freedom Scientific was very good about having a searchable archive of those podcasts. That appears to have changed, and it's the "searchable" part that's the most critical. So if anyone happens to be looking for any Freedom Scientific Training Podcast and you can remember any important keyword related to its title, you can try searching for it here: Freedom Scientific Training Podcast Archive - Searchable The search edit box is right at the top of the page. ~ Joshua Liebman

migrated scripts failed to work
3
Hello, I just installed Jaws 2025 and I chose the option to migrate all settings. All my own scripts got migrated, but none of them is working. When I press the keystroke for my particular script, Jaws would say, "Unknown script called..." How do I fix this issue? And the Jaws script manager announces compiling errors about their own existing scripts. This issue began with Jaws 2024 which is the version I skipped over. Thank you. Shirley

Reverting to an earlier update

Hello, Is there a way I can revert back to an earlier update of Jaws 2023? I just recently downloaded its last update for this version but I prefer its earlier update, but I do not have that old .exe file. Thank you. Shirley

turning off announcement of superscript and subscript
3
Hello, I just installed Jaws 2025, but my question is applicable to Jaws 2023 as well since that's the version I've been using. How do I turn off the reading of superscript and subscript? I got the below answer from FS companion but it's not working out for me. To turn off the reading of superscript and subscript in JAWS, you can adjust the settings in the JAWS Settings Center. Here¡¯s how you can do it: Open the JAWS Settings Center by pressing INSERT+F2. In the Settings Center, press CTRL+SHIFT+D to load the default settings. Use the search box to type "superscript" or "subscript" to find the relevant settings. Navigate through the results using the arrow keys to locate the option for reading superscript and subscript. Once you find the option, press the SPACEBAR to toggle it off. Press OK to save your changes and exit the Settings Center. This will stop JAWS from announcing superscript and subscript formatting as you navigate through documents. Thank you. Shirley

Removing a Website from Flexible Web
2
Hello. Earlier today I was editing my Flexible Web, and I noticed there was a website in the list which I hadn't visited for years. It didn't have any associated rules, so whatever I removed all those years ago was no longer there. In the years that have past, the website might have changed. I can remove different rules I have added, but I can't remove websites. Could any of you tell me how to remove websites from Flexible Web? | Wayne Senior, Dewsbury, England -- Wayne Senior, Dewsbury, England. Latest stable versions of JAWS and Windows, Office 16.

JAWS Only Features

Letter shortcut for generic links

Hi, Brian, I think knowing how to move to the next/previous link, whether it's visited or not, would be helpful. How do you define that letter shortcut? Thank you. JAWS (or maybe not, it could be the machine it's on) is driving me to drink for one client . . .
3
I don't know what's going on, really, because I don't use JAWS daily and some of the things I'm seeing are just plain weird. I have already completely uninstalled and reinstalled the latest JAWS 2024 about a month and a half ago, but this stuff keeps coming up. I can replicate at least some of it here at home using the JAWS 2025 beta, and I'm wondering if others can replicate it or not in an effort to tease out where the problem lies. For all I know, it may lie with my expectations. Let me preface this with I often have clients who have Gmail accounts that have managed to collect massive backlogs of mail do the purging of that backlog from the Gmail website. This is not done with Gmail keyboard shortcuts enabled because they aren't needed for this process. For details, see: Mass Selection and Deletion of Gmail Messages via the Gmail Web Interface While "noodling around" the Gmail website with this client, I've discovered other issues with that JAWS is saying and what actually works. If there are differences between what I've encountered between JAWS 2024 and the 2025 beta, I will note those. Otherwise, the reported result is the same. 1. When on the Gmail webpage and traversing the Categories tabs (Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates are the defaults) when you land on one, JAWS announces the tab and states that you should hit spacebar to activate. But when you hit spacebar the change of focus to messages in that particular tab does not occur. However, if you hit Enter when on that same tab, the focus does change as expected and the messages for said tab get listed below. 2. JAWS 2024 only: Once one has done a category tab change, JAWS is not dropping focus into the message list and on to the first message in the list and announcing it. It does say something like row one, column one, but nothing more. JAWS 2025 is doing fine in that regard provided you've used Enter to get focus to switch to the named category tab. 3. I noticed last night, with JAWS 2025, using a JAWS Find to attempt to locate the Settings button and even the B quick navigation shortcut were not working to find it no matter what I did. Ultimately I had to get focus on the search box and arrow or tab to get to it. I did make sure that I did a Ctrl + Home to get to top of page before using JAWS Find or the B navigation shortcut. 4. Visual highlighting of JAWS focus when moving around the Gmail website is entirely inconsistent in both JAWS 2024 and JAWS 2025. I realize that this will not matter to the majority of members here. If you are working with a sighted colleague, though, do not be surprised if they suddenly have no concept of "where you are" because JAWS has stopped putting the highlight box around things as focus moves during navigation. I am particularly curious as to whether those using JAWS 2024 can replicate issues numbers one through three above. Note that I don't have Gmail keyboard shortcuts active when I am doing this testing, though they may not matter. I just didn't want those entering the possible mix since I know for what I'm doing they are not necessary. -- Brian ¡¤ ¡á? ¡¤ ???? ¡¤ Virginia, USA - Windows 11 Pro, Version 23H2, Build 22631; M365 Family; Android 13 (Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.5.0) If you keep your mind sufficiently open, people will throw a lot of rubbish into it. ~ William A. Solution to the Vocaliser Capital Letter Problem
When using JAWS, I use the Vocaliser voices, except if I am using Word. Recently I had to connect a device to my WiFi. My WiFi key is stored in a secure file. My attempts to connect the device failed. I had presumed a letter was lower-case, because the pitch of the voice didn't change. There are some letters where the pitch doesn't change when using certain voices. After encountering this problem, I thought about how I could avoid this happening in future. I decided to change the voice used for capital letters, so it would be different from the Keyboard Voice and PC Cursor Voice. To do this I pressed insert + 6 to open the Configuration Manager, and made sure I was editing the Default file. Then in the tree view I went to "Voice Aliases" There I changed the "SingleCapVoice". A problem when doing this, is the pitches are different in the Voice Aliases dialogue. If you don't alter them, the new voice won't change pitch. To fix this, press insert + j, choose "Options", "Voices", "Voice Adjustment..." Tab to "Voice Upper Case Pitch Change". If there is a number there, change it. If the number that was there was the number you wanted, change it back, then press enter. Now even on letters where the voice doesn't change pitch, you will know when they are capitalised. Now I can use the Vocaliser voices when editing word documents. | Wayne Senior, Dewsbury, England -- Wayne Senior, Dewsbury, England. Latest stable versions of JAWS and Windows, Office 16.

page breaks or section brakes,
If someone is just using a double space to denote a section break in a story, How can JAWS pick those out without me having to go back through and find them? I am in Microsoft word with JAWS 22, and windows 10. Justin

Hi all, Which program can I use to crop photos, using Jaws 2023 or Jaws 17 on Windows 10 Pro? For example, I only need to do simple cropping, like 200 pixels off on the left side, or 400 pixels off on the top. Thank you in advance.

Finding page number on pdf
4
Hi all, Hope you're all well. I'm a newbie. I use Jaws 2023 on Windows 10 Pro. How do I check how many pages a pdf file has, and which page I'm currently on? I used to be able to get that info with jaws key plus B with Jaws 17 on Windows 10 Home, but it doesn't work for my new setup. Thank you in advance.
