JAWS Keystrokes Documentation - Can it be called up "on demand" from within JAWS?
It has driven me crazy for years that Freedom Scientific doesn't seem to produce a comprehensive User's Guide for JAWS (or at least I've never found one), but they definitely have the JAWS Keystrokes available in several different formats.
But if there is a way to call up that Keystrokes information document from within JAWS if you want to do a quick search of that document I don't know it.? That command for both the on demand display (in your default web browser) of the NVDA Commands Quick Reference and User Guide have existed for years.? I keep hoping that I've missed the development where the equivalents in JAWS arrived. -- Brian??·?♂??·??????-?Virginia, USA?-?Windows 11 Pro, Version 23H2, Build 22631;?M365 Family;?Android 13 (MIUI 14) I prefer true but imperfect knowledge, even if it leaves much undetermined and unpredictable, to a pretense of exact knowledge that is likely to be false. ?? ~ ?F.A. 开云体育I don’t know if such a documentation can be called up on demand, as far as I can tell, it can’t; I would find it useful as well since I tend to help Spanish users and it was only recently that they told me I totally misled them in some ways when trying to use combination keys that require consecutive combinations, such as in some options for picture smart. Face in view also has different combination keys for Spanish. ? Best, Leo Bado ? "Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive." Elbert Hubbard ? 开云体育Insert plus space bar followed by J is also contextual, meaning that it will show only the specific commands for the app on focus, besides those general Jaws commands, but I do believe that Brian meant a specific command to open a web page containing all available commands for the screen reader. ? JAWS has a keyboard shortcuts document that you can download, and I always do for each version, but it would be mighty nice if it were just to be "shipped with" and openable via a JAWS command on demand. I don't think the Keyboard Shortcuts document is 100% comprehensive, but it certainly represents the vast majority of the most frequently used and kinda-sorta frequently used shortcuts.? They also mix in Windows shortcuts, which I personally believe muddies the water.? There are Windows keyboard shortcuts, JAWS keyboard shortcuts, and application keyboard shortcuts and knowing which are which gets you way more than halfway to a solution when issues arise.? There is a comprehensive user guide in the JAWS Help menu called "JAWS Help Topics", and another menu option in the same menu for "Keyboard Commands". Pressing insert+h in an application will bring up Jaws commands for it.
I would argue that the user guide is not comprehensive enough. For example, Jaws now has support for Zoom, Teams and Whatsapp, but there is nothing about this in the Jaws Help Topics. When one considers the cost of JAWS, I don't think it is unreasonable for people to expect the help material to be updated to reflect the features and support in the latest version. |
