Can members of a group upload files?

Hi,

I notice that I, as the group owner, can upload files to the group. How do I permit others to upload files to my group?

Hi. was wondering. In google chrome if you press shift f 10 or the applications key and then arrow down to page source. Then it loads in ?I think or notepad ++. Could not find the person say in a message on a thread in groups.io. is there a way to see where the message was from, their e-mail, and their ip address.

Thanks.

Not necessarily exactly but have a read of this:: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Removed-for-spam.

It is not "copyright" of the GMF so feel free to copy it into your own wiki so that your members can be pointed to it. As an alternative you can just point them at the link as the GMF wiki is publicly accessible anyway.

Similarly, we also need the same done for "Folders"

Hi, I am getting messages that "Subscriber was removed for marking a message as spam."? The member was notified they were removed, can re-join, they asked me why.? Since it hasn't happened to me, does anyone know exactly what the member did when "marking a message as spam" and what they can do to prevent it from happening again?? Thanks, David

Thanks for that reply, Duane. Good to know that this was already suggested to Beta some time back.

Re: Turn off Database Map or default to List #database

Hi Duane,
There IS a toggle, but it's NOT sticky - therein be the problem.
Several of the groups I run are Premium and the map is included there. Any time you engage the "address" for the field type, you're stuck with the map as default and it's causing a ruckus. We need to collect addresses for things other than actually "getting there", but defaulting to the map every time someone opens the database renders it useless for us. I changed the field to "paragraph" to get out of it, but still...

Think I'll rattle Mark's cage.
Thanks!
Ginny

For something that gets changed often, it might be worthwhile to try using a Wiki page.? That would be easily edited.? You could set it so that only moderators could make changes, if needed.? Unfortunately, there's currently not a setting for "owner or moderator only" on Wiki pages like there is for a database.

Re: UNABLE TO EDIT FILES ON THE IO FILE PAGE #howto

Hello again All.

I'd like to slightly update my original post starting this topic.

My original concern was that it is no way to simply edit the TEXT of an existing file in the Files Section of my IO group, which USED TO BE doable on Y!Groups.

Peter Cook's suggestions for several icon changes are very good but it would be helpful to also include an option/icon for 'Edit File Text' to make it simpler for a moderator/owner (or the poster of a file) to make a minor change to an existing file's text without having to wade through a clumsy 'delete/post new file' sequence.

This would prove a particularly valuable option if there were only a typo or other mininal change to be made to a particular file/document.

If we are able to arrive at a suitable concensus for what might be the best change(s) for such file editing options athat point they should then be presented to the Beta Group.

Comments? Suggestions?

OK ¡ª HTH

Best suggestion so far IMHO... separate icons and descriptions for what are really separate processes to begin with.

What would be clearer to me would be to
  • change "Edit" to "File Properties", change the icon to a file icon with an I (see below) and use it only to change the file name and description,
  • add an icon for "Replace File" (perhaps a file icon with an up arrow), which provides the reupload function,
  • change the "Move" scissors icon to a file icon with a horizontal arrow (scissors generally indicate "cut"),
  • and make sure the words seen when hovering over an icon are identical to the words seen in the resulting dialog.

I'm not seeing that error. When does it show the error? Immediately
after you paste, or not until after you Send / Save Event?

For messages try using the Add Pictures button instead of copy/paste.

Are the images you're trying to paste particularly large, or in an
unusual image format? If so, try using a photo editing program to scale
them down and/or convert them to a standard format like jpg or png.

If you can narrow down the circumstances that causes the error it may be
worth reporting to support.

Al,

are stripped and then show an error like this:

Re: Groups.io accounts not subscribed to any group

Agree that the risk is low, but a derelict account still increases the attack surface with no benefits. Who knows what undiscovered vulnerabilities or ways to exploit a dead account will pop up tomorrow? Security is always a balance between cost, convenience and safety. Deleting a dead account yields a bit of security at almost no effort, and no loss of convenience. Sounds like a good deal to me.
Best, Marv

Images in messages and calendar often stripped and then show a "blob" error message

Many of the images that I copy/paste into messages and calendar events are stripped and then show an error like this:?

¡°Cannot convert blob:/35dfe00a-1983-45f1-92eb?to Blob. Resource might not exist or is inaccessible.¡±?

How can I resolve this?

?

Thanks,

Al

I don't have a premium group to test this.? According to a changelog, , there's supposed to be a button to toggle between map and list.? I don't know if it would be sticky or require use each time.? To the best of my knowledge, you can't use maps on a free group, .

Re: UNABLE TO EDIT FILES ON THE IO FILE PAGE #howto

Gerald,

The actual functionality appears to be is as follows. ...

1. Delete existing file
I don't see this one.

2. Browse to and upload a new file
The intent is that you'd browse to and upload a revised copy of the original file. Hence "Update".

3. Change the filename text to match the newly selected and uploaded file
Only if the name needs correction.

4. Comments are not changed unless the user manually changes them
Ditto.

Yes, you could misuse the feature to replace the file with a completely different one, but if that were your intent then the more straightforward way would be to use "Delete" and "Upload File".

I missed that uploading a new file was included. Now that I see what is really going on, I'd suggest maybe "Replace file" since I can select any file to replace the one that was there. However, I suspect that no matter what wording is used, it will still be confusing?for users to figure out what functionality is included.

The actual functionality appears to be is as follows. I don't think this is intuitive.

1. Delete existing file
2. Browse to and upload a new file
3. Change the filename text to match the newly selected and uploaded file
4. Comments are not changed unless the user manually changes them

I'd rather see "Edit" just be used to change the "properties" - filename and comments. Delete and Upload already exist and are intuitive.

Gerald,

Perhaps it would have been less confusing if the term used was "Edit
Properties" rather than "Edit file".

?Paul,

"Edit" only refers to changing the filename and description.

To edit the contents of the file, you will need to download the file and update it with an application program that is compatible with the contents of the file. For your example, you would need to use a program such as Microsoft Word.

Perhaps it would have been less confusing if the term used was "Edit Properties" rather than "Edit file".
