New iPad - No bluetooth

I got my new iPad but I and I think it’s all set up after I spent an hour with tech support. We had to go around and download the apps etc from the iCloud because I really didn’t have enough space to update the iPad. (Old and full)

Now I still can’t get the Bluetooth to work between my MacBook Air (Sonoma) and the new iPad. . It wasn’t working on the old iPad because I didn’t have enough space. Now it’s not working on the new iPad either and there’s plenty of space. (And I really used that quite a lot.)

The iPad says “This iPad is diccoverable as Becky Lindroos’ iPad (2) while Bluetooth Settings is open."

Then, same screen, where it says “Devices” the wheel just keeps going around searching.
***
The MacBook says This Mac is discoverable as “MacBook Air” while Bluetooth Settings is open.

And under My Devices. - “No Bluetooth Devices” and it says “Nearby Devices”.

Becky

I tried to send this message to you ……. And it was rejected twice!

You are very welcome, Becky. ?

More information from Apple here if needed: ?

Warm regards,

David

With regard to your current situation …………… I take the simple way out first!

Turn OFF - completely - your MacBook Air AND your iPad (slide bar off!)

Restart both and see if there is any change.

I tried making sure they were both totally off ?(the old iPad was also off) and then starting them up again. ?Now the new iPad finds the laptop but they “can’t pair.” ?And some other device (a neighbor’s? - not real close) came up. ?Meanwhile the MacBook is telling me that I have no Bluetooth devices. ?(I just upgraded this yesterday to Sonoma and I think that’s what caused the problem although I certainly did need a new iPad anyway.)?

Thanks for so advising, Becky.

May I strongly urge you to call Apple Support (free) here:-?

They will, without doubt, be the best folk to sort out your dilemma.

Good luck! ?

Please let me know when you have been successful!?

I don’t think iPads connect to Macs via Bluetooth, but I could be wrong. ?Absent cable connections, the only way I’ve connected my iPads to my iMac is via WiFi (). ?Here’s a support article on Bluetooth from Apple and it doesn’t list iPads: ?

Double check you have handoff turned on for both devices. I just set this up last month and couldn't figure out why my new MacBook Air wasn't seeing the iPad. I followed the instructions at the bottom of this article, turned on handoff and all is good now.?
