I tried making sure they were both totally off ?(the old iPad was also off) and then starting them up again. ?Now the new iPad finds the laptop but they ¡°can¡¯t pair.¡± ?And some other device (a neighbor¡¯s? - not real close) came up. ?Meanwhile the MacBook is telling me that I have no Bluetooth devices. ?(I just upgraded this yesterday to Sonoma and I think that¡¯s what caused the problem although I certainly did need a new iPad anyway.)?

You are very welcome, Becky. ?
More information from Apple here if needed: ?
Warm regards,

With regard to your current situation ¡¡¡¡¡ I take the simple way out first!
Turn OFF - completely - your MacBook Air AND your iPad (slide bar off!)
Restart both and see if there is any change.

I got my new iPad but I and I think it¡¯s all set up after I spent an hour with tech support. We had to go around and download the apps etc from the iCloud because I really didn¡¯t have enough space to update the iPad. ?(Old and full)
Now I still can¡¯t get the Bluetooth to work between my MacBook Air (Sonoma) and the new iPad. . It wasn¡¯t working on the old iPad because I didn¡¯t have enough space. ?Now it¡¯s not working on the new iPad either and there¡¯s plenty of space. ??(And I really used that quite a lot.)
The iPad says ¡°This iPad is diccoverable as Becky Lindroos¡¯ iPad (2) while Bluetooth Settings is open."
Then, same screen, where it says ¡°Devices¡± the wheel just keeps going around searching.
*** ?
The MacBook says This Mac is discoverable as ¡°MacBook Air¡± while Bluetooth Settings is open. ?
And under My Devices. - ¡°No Bluetooth Devices¡± ?and it says ¡°Nearby Devices¡±.
