Re: Help, one of my new groups is getting tons of "Re: reply to subscribe"
I don't understand why Groups.io mis-refers to groups by their by the group's posting email address rather than the group's URL. I believe in past discussion it has been stated that 'that's just how it is'. I would suggest saying: the group GROUPNAME.groups.io Yes, GROUPNAME.groups.io is an alias for /g/GROUPNAME but GROUPNAME.groups.io works and is more intuitive and memorable. BTW, Groups.io is also clickable. If GROUPNAME.groups.io or /g/GROUPNAME was stated, then clicking on it would take one to the group's Home page. |

Some groups use it so that the footers in the digest are consistent (and have live links).I contacted the owner and he replied that as far as he can knows, he left the default settings when he created the group. But I still don't understand why a group NEEDS to have the ability to NOT let me choose the format for a digest I'm going to read. I LIKE not having live links in my digests, and if a subscriber has trouble with getting his/her preferred format of digest, the group owner should be able to steer them in the right direction. As you can see, I don't like being told what I want. Dave |
Be careful if you change your group name after setting it up.
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have discovered the hard way that the ¡®Welcome Message¡¯ for new members uses, by default, the name you chose for your group when you set it up. If you subsequently change the group name before sending invitations, those responding to the invite join the group with its new name, but get a welcome message with the old name, and when they try to access the email addresses within it get a message saying the group does not exist. ? So if you change a group name, make sure you change the details in the Welcome Message and any other Member Notices ? Jeff ? ? |

Hello all, Thank you for all the responses.? 1. Bruce, the aliases is definitely something to watch for going forward, one of those not obvious settings and subsequent problem.? I'm not using aliases yet, but that's good advice. 2. By "when I click that", I thought I meant that on the homepage for my group, down near the bottom, under GROUP EMAIL ADDRESSES, then Subscribe:, there is a link called? "main+subscribe@..." which brings up your default email client.? However, the rest of testing notes aren't completely making sense with that, so I am trying to reconstruct my testing.? I'm not sure why I wrote it that way, my apologies, it's not clear. 3. The comment about newer browsers retaining information, I'm thinking perhaps cookies, is something I need to try out. 4. As for "use a different browser", what I mean is that I tried my testing on 3 different browsers, MS Edge, MS Internet Explorer and Google Chrome.? I was thinking that if I used a browser that I hadn't used before on the GROUPS.IO website, then it shouldn't know anything about my use of GROUPS.IO, not in cookies or anywhere else it keeps information.? Also, occasionally, a website will not work properly on MS Edge, but it will work on one of the others.? I don't think this is the case here though. I will work my way through all of these responses and get back to you. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Darlene Dimitrie,?DVHH Mailing List Administrator |

I use MS Edge, so I tried Internet Explorer and Chrome, same results.A lot of the newer browsers/devices insist on remembering your login information so they can automatically log you in when you go to a site.? Re: FW: Delivery Status Notification (Failure)
I have been dealing with the "No Reverse DNS" error for over a month now. The Reverse DNS is configured properly and present. My ISP checked for me as well and also confirmed it was properly configured. IT was posted here and also confirmed it was properly configured.-- Yet the Error bounces continued. Mark apparently "increased the delay time" for the check and it helped a lot! Instead of getting them numerous times per day it is not only a few times per day (2-5 times) as opposed to 20-30 times before. Yet is still persists. The fact a change was made and it notably?produced results would tell you that the change could be the heart of the problem... even though I've seen it blamed on everything else.

Email text width setting in email browsers from Genealogy groups. #email #email settings
#email
When a group owner sets posts on their group, is there a text width setting as most emails come to my iMac with half the screen wasted and excessive scrolling required to reach the bottom of a Digest email?
Changes to my email browser does not fix this, so I assume it comes from the page width and text length settings somewhere else.? I include a sample. Regards, John |

To complete your subscription, please reply to this email. ------------------------------------------------------ If "[email protected]" is a hyperlink (or if one's e-mail program turns it into a hyperlink), then that address is the only thing in the entire message that is clickable (except the footer). He might either click it because he is used to clicking an e-mail link to start up an e-mail. Alternatively, he might click it because clicking a link is a very common action during two-step subscription of online services. In fact, when I personally subscribe to anything online that uses two-step subscription, I don't actually **read** the mail I receive, but simply glance at the message and then click the most prominent link. I suspect many people do that. Samuel |

Right now I'm a trying to subscribe via email using <list-name>[email protected]What do you mean "when I click that"? What do you click? When I do a test by trying to subscribe by sending an e-mail to [email protected], the test user gets an e-mail telling him to "complete" his subscription by replying to the message, but there is no link in that e-mail that one can click (except for the e-mail address itself, but that is because my e-mail program automatically changes e-mail addresses into links). On some other mailing list systems that I have seen, the reply sent in request to a "subscribe" or "join" e-mail also contains a unique link that one can click in order to confirm one's subscription (and one's e-mail address), but the IO reply does not have that, unfortunately. This is part of my testing, so I doubt I will be going in this way.? I'm trying to avoid the website completely. I will look at the link you sent, it looks like the answer, without me having to torture myself with all this testing. ? Thank you. |
