One of my new groups is getting tons of "Re: reply to subscribe" messages. But they are not subbed! If I approve the message, it seems to appear as a message. :( However, some seem properly subbed, as I can click on their email and see that.
[My guess is that the] original sender of the "reply to subscribe" message did not realise that he needs to press REPLY in his mail program in order to confirm his subscription, so he did what some e-mail users nowadays do: he created a *new* e-mail and addressed it to what he considered the originator of the mail that he's
"replying" to.
Actually, I just thought of another way this might have happened, which is due to a design flaw in GIO itself.

When someone tries to subscribe via e-mail, they get a message from GIO saying the following:

------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for your interest in Groups.io and the group
[email protected]. To complete your subscription,
please reply to this email.
------------------------------------------------------

If "[email protected]" is a hyperlink (or if one's e-mail program turns it into a hyperlink), then that address is the only thing in the entire message that is clickable (except the footer).

He might either click it because he is used to clicking an e-mail link to start up an e-mail.

Alternatively, he might click it because clicking a link is a very common action during two-step subscription of online services.

In fact, when I personally subscribe to anything online that uses two-step subscription, I don't actually **read** the mail I receive, but simply glance at the message and then click the most prominent link. I suspect many people do that.
