Re: TinyTudes, op. 1 published!
开云体育Hi Lenny. Amanda here. I just got done playing flute with a friend of mine who plays violin. I also played the recorder a little bit as well. I took a fall, but I'm OK. I caught my foot on a chair on the back porch, the wrong way, and took a small tumble. I'm OK though. My recorder, Gabrielle, who is an angel recorder is fine too. She took a pretty hard hit, but I'm surprised she still plays. Anyway, my godmother asked me if the flute hurts my lip. I said not at all. She thought it did, but it doesn't. I have a small Fife, and the Fife has a thumb hole that is sharp around the edges. I play this instrument, but afterwards, my thumb has a small blister. Do you know of a way to file that thumb hole down a little? It's sharp around the edges.?Amanda On Dec 28, 2023, at 4:28?AM, Leonard E. Lopatin <llopatin1@...> wrote:

开云体育??? ??? Dear Amanda and all Flutenuts! ??? ??? I make concert flutes in precious metals.? I have a unique design that many here on Flutenet are familiar with.? It has square tone holes.? That's all the holes that the keys open and close.? (You probably knew that, but some people think "tone hole" mean the embouchure hole, which is not correct.)? These are professional level flutes.? I've mostly made concert flutes, but I've also made a couple of alto flutes, and one piccolo. ??? ??? I'm semi-retired.? I can't really do much of the main work because of problems with my back and some other things, but I still make pads for the square-holed flutes, since nobody else makes those. ??? ??? Well, we'll be seeing you!? (So to speak.) ??? ??? Best to all, ??? ??? Lenny On 12/27/2023 3:22 AM, Amanda Shevitski

I also have an ocarina, but it's a very oddly shaped one. It looks something like a sweet potato, and has a fipple mouthpiece as well. I also play the recorder. I have been playing the flute for 22 years do you still make flutes, or did you have to retire? I also have a set of panpipes. I don't play the ocarina or the panpipes as much as my flutes and my recorders. It's very interesting how many members of the Flute family they're actually are. There are so many members of the Flute family, that I can't even begin to count them all, let alone pronounce them. Some of them are unpronounceable.? |
Re: How to finger this passage?
Connie, I haven't played that piece, but looking at the score you posted I can definitely relate! Those passages are some sort of love-hate. And also - in my head it should not be diffucult, therefore it is even more frustrating. I, of course, am not by any means a skilled flute player but what I try to do is except from play slowly and progress, different accents, binding two-two, two-three etc is to try to take that mind block away. Sort of suddenly it works, and then you play the next (easy?) part wrong just out of surprise ... But as I say, these are my tricks.

开云体育??? Hi Amanda, ??? No, this is just the sheet music.? They are little pieces,
but very challenging and very interesting, if I say so myself!? I
started having physical problems a few years ago, which forced me
to retire from professional playing.? I'm still hoping that I
might be able to regain a level of playing ability that would
allow me to record these pieces myself, but that has yet to be
seen. ??? Of course, I would love to hear other players perform or record these, too.? I've been a flutist and a flute maker for many years, but the composing is quite a new thing in the scheme of things! ??? Best to you, ??? Lenny On 12/27/2023 12:05 AM, Amanda

Hi Leonard. Are they available in an audio format? Can you download them for free? Just asking. I can't read music at all, and braille music is really hard. I am wondering if I can find these on YouTube and listen to them. I've been playing the flute for 22 years, and I learned everything by ear. I'm mostly self taught, but I did take lessons, from the same woman that taught me piano for 15 years.? |

开云体育Hi Dan. Nice to meet you. My name is Amanda. Thank you for the merry Christmas wishes. I am recovering from a cold, and my mom had surgery on her foot today. She's doing well though. Hopefully, this cold goes away soon. I'm just about to lie down and rest. Merry Christmas to all.Amanda On Dec 22, 2023, at 11:03?AM, Dan Colburn via groups.io <flutepilot@...> wrote:

开云体育Man. I sure hope they can find out what's wrong with my skin. I have a sore throat, but I have to work this weekend. If I have a sore throat though, I'm not going into work. I've got to go to breakfast with a friend on Friday, and I'm not going to little little sore throat like that stop me.Amanda On Dec 20, 2023, at 3:47?PM, sandy.sexton via groups.io <sandy.sexton@...> wrote:

Re: How to finger this passage?
开云体育Good luck with finding out what’s causing the skin problem.? There are so many possibilities and your doctor may have to guide you through a process of elimination. ?I’m allergic to a certain weed that’s common – African Panic Grass.? Whenever I remove any, within an hour I’m in the shower scrubbing, and of course I always wear long sleeves and gloves…? We’ve had a couple of very busy days, so no flute for two days.? Ouch. ? There's a piece of music that I'm playing on solo flute for New Year's Eve. It's an ancient Native American hymn. Was in the moon of winter time. I'll see if I can post the YouTube video of it. It's not going to be very long, but at least it's you can hear it. By the way, I have a problem with my skin. I get these sores on my legs, and so they're trying to figure out what it is. They say it might be a skin condition called PERIGO, nodularis, or a bacterial infection. They also think it might be an allergic reaction to some sort of something that I use daily. They don't know. They had me switch my laundry detergent to see if that helps. Amanda |

开云体育Hi Amanda, ??? It’s good to hear that you’re all settled for Christmas.? We finished the 5th and last of our Christmas gigs last Sunday, and although all were enjoyable you can have too much of a good thing.? It’s summer here, and we’ve had some beautiful weather, so I’m planning to spend a lot of time in the garden.? Enjoy your New Year’s duets.? Should be fun! ? Regards, Sandy (with ducks) ? ? Hey everyone. Amanda here. Still playing flute, and doing quite well. Construction on the house is complete, the living room is back together, and we have our Christmas things out finally. Unfortunately, this will be the last year for our small table tree. We have to get a new tree next year. Don't know if it'll be one we can put together, but I don't know. Anyway, a friend of mine and I are playing together on New Year's Eve. She plays the violin, and the flute and the violin sound great together.? Amanda |

Re: How to finger this passage?
Dear Connie,
Frankly, I don't think any alternate fingerings are going to make this any easier or sound better.? It's simply a matter of practicing slowly at first, and gradually bringing it up to tempo.? Starting slow will help get the pattern engrained in your brain.? You'll find it started to feel easier after some careful repetitions. But regular fingering is fine for this.? And it's always a good idea to spend some time on practicing scales, and other basics! |
How to finger this passage?
Connie
Hi! ? ? You will recognize the attached as a few bars from Danse Macabre.???? How would you finger this, specifically the F#'s???? Would you pick one fingering and practice that, or would you use different fingerings within the passage?
And which F# fingering(s) would you use? Thanks! -- Connie Stillinger C flute, Bass flute, serious recreational player |
