Re: High Eb goes sharp

One thing I’ve noticed is that what works for you may not work for others and visa versa. If the overblown fingering works, use it.

The other thing is that to many folks look for perfect pitch and forget the emotion. Sometimes a slightly off pitch note can add to the music. Use your ears.

Good luck. Find your own salvation.

Best - Andy!!

Today while practicing scales with my electronic tuner, I noticed that my 3rd octave Eb (the one with all the keys down) went sharp by 20 to 30 cents. I can bring it down by directing the air stream lower into the hole after a bit of trying, but it makes going to that note extra complicated for playing fast.
However, I tried _not_ putting all the keys down, and just kept the middle octave fingering (left #1 up), while speeding up the air until the octave popped and it was perfectly in tune with an acceptable tone.
Is this something that anyone else noticed? If I keep the middle octave fingering, am I going to run into trouble eventually?
I'll mention that my flute is a Pearl Quantz, in case this is a known characteristic.

this is a very interesting subject. I don't think you'll run into trouble. Of course, I have only been playing the flute for 22 years. I'm self taught. I've literally mastered white room by cream on flute. It's not easy to play. Specially when you get to the bridge. The notes are easy enough, but it takes a lot of air. I'm gonna play that tomorrow for my mom. By the way, there are some notes that I can split, which is really cool, especially when it comes to the E flat. Splitting the E flat is easier than struggling with the Baroque method of doing the E flat. I've tried the Baroque method of the E flat several times, but I just can't get it. Splitting notes is easier. The more notes I can split, the better. I can split my E flat, and my height and middle D.

thanks Sandy. I'm glad you guys are inspired by my video. By the way, I sent you guys my YouTube link so you can check out my other videos that I've done. There's also a story in there where I actually talk about my experience with these three people. I do not mention their names. I am living a peaceful life now without them in my life trying to destroy it. I don't care what anyone says. My passions are my passions, and that is how it will stay. I'm excited, because I'm getting four new figures on Thursday from the Hasbro collector series of 1999. Luke Skywalker, Biggs Dara glider, wedge Antilles, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

I am very determined. If I want to do some thing, I'll do it. Especially if it's learning a new piece, mastering a martial arts skill, or really anything else in my life. If I have a passion for some thing, no one tells me to give it up, unless it is detrimental to my health. There is a perfect example of a story that I posted on my YouTube channel about three people who tried to force me to give up Star Wars. I was not having it. Aiah ?pushed back every step of the way. Eventually, they had to admit defeat. They were going to get nowhere with me. If someone forces me to give up some thing I enjoy, they're not going to get anywhere. I'm not gonna give up when I enjoy in my life, and that is my life to live. Star Wars is not affecting my health. Star Wars is not harming anyone else? And Star Wars most certainly is not illegal. .

Piano Part?

Sorting music and found Nathan Zalman’s charming transcription of Gounod’s Andante Cantabile from Petite Symphonie.
The piano part is missing and I can’t turn up anything online - his website doesn’t exist anymore.
Anybody have the piano part to share??

Re: My apologies. I accidentally sent these only to Jen. Here are some emails that I sent to her that will explain what I was talking about. My sincerest apologies.

Hi,
Yes, all of the different instruments are fascinating, and the blend of
sounds that composers create are uplifting. We've been enjoying listening
to the Sibelius symphonies, and last night we chose the 1st, played by the
Finnish Radio Symphony conducted by Hannu Lintu. Interesting to hear the
motif used in the Lord of the Rings. Got to love listening to Sibelius in
winter! (Winter here in Australia...)

My apologies. I didn't mean to confuse anyone. I don't know why I refer to
myself as classically trained when it comes to piano or flute. I did take
piano lessons for 15 years. And during this 15 years, I started learning the
flute. I have played in piano and flute, recitals, and I've played with my
high school band. I also play with my local church. It's pretty interesting
when you hear the flute and the bassoon playing together. I have a friend,
Sylvia, who plays the bassoon very well. There was another church I went to,
and there was a woman that would volunteer her time, and bring her bassoon.
When I asked if I could see her bassoon up close, she refused. Sylvia was
more than happy to show me her instrument up close. She even went so far as
to show me how all the pieces fit together. She even explained what the
names of the pieces were. I even got the chance to see a French horn up
close. I've seen many instruments in my time, including a clarinet, oboe,
cello, violin, viola, French horn, and trombone. I even got to see a tuba
once. the only instrument I've not seen up close is a saxophone. I've seen a
trumpet up close, because my friend Adam plays one.

Amanda writes:
Mostly, I guess you could say, I'm self-taught, or, my piano teacher would
show me some things starting at her house, and then I would take it from
there on my own at home. I also play in my local church. Both recorder and
flute. I'm a fast learner. When someone plays some thing for me, and then it
shows me how to play it, I can usually start the piece at the location where
it's being taught, then take it from where the teaching left off at home.
That's what I did with the Bach minuet when I was learning them on piano. I
love playing Bach. I also know a couple of pieces by Edvard Grieg. Hall of
the Mountain King, and Morning Mood. I also learned pussy willows, cattails
by Gordon Lightfoot.

I'm not sure actually what I meant. I just refer to myself as classically
trained, because I know a lot of classical music. I think that's what I
mean. I'm kind of an amateur as it were. Although I've been playing the
flute for 22 years, I'm still kind of an amateur.

Re: profesh flutist? profesh classicist?

Hi Sandy,
What's a Mickey-take? And why would professional musicians in Oz never refer to themselves as such?
Here in Canada we always say "professional musician" to indicate that our primary income and daily activity is performing for an audience.
Otherwise it would be "amateur musician" (playing simply for the love of it, but doesn't expect to live off their musical earnings.)

I love this quote too, Nancy.? Our band President also found this, turned it into a poster and put it on the wall in the Band Hall.? I always tell our learners that it doesn’t matter what you play, or how ‘advanced’ you are.? Playing the simplest of pieces adds music to the world and makes it a better place.? I don’t say, but it’s true, that playing extremely complex music to a large appreciative audience…adds music to the world and makes it a better place.
