almonds

Carolyne
In a lot of European countries we can buy almond milk, sometimed almond and
hazlenut or almond and rice milk ,,, I love it,,, perhaps you could get your
almond that way if it is obtainable where you are,

Carolyn.......... it isn't the almonds that are causing your teeth to crumble it is most likely the vigorous chewing of the almonds, teeth against teeth,
by putting the almonds in water you are taking one of the first steps in preparing almond milk........ remove the skins or buy them already blanched then place in distilled water for 24 hours, then drain and put the almonds in your blender and blenderize with fresh distilled water........ until you are happy with it, keep in the refrigerator and drink it up as it will begin to sour, some people add honey or juice to make there own flavour, almond milk can also be used for cooking (so I've been told, I know that rice milk can't) however it is great with your morning cereal or just to drink as a glass of cold milk and no milk allergy problems...

The prophet Edgar Cayce made a statement that if you want to protect yourself from cancer then eat 5 or 6 raw almonds every day...

Almonds are sooo good for you. It's a good idea to soak them for 10 minutes or so in a solution of water and hydrogen peroxide. You'll see a frightening amount of action there. Anyway, this will take off any fungus lurking there. Then you can rinse and soak them. Overnight is sufficient to awaken the life force, increasing the nutritional value 100 fold. It's best to soak them in the fridge as they "turn" very quickly. After soaking they're ready for making milk, if you like. It's simple. Here's a basic recipe:
1 cup raw almonds
1 quart good water
1 tsp vanilla
salt to taste ( important to add this for full bodied flavor)
Sweetener to taste (I use raw honey. You can add just a tad, or more, for a sweet milk)

Put the almonds in the blender with half the water.
Strain through cloth (can be cotton or synthetic - even a new paint straining cloth)
Put pulp back in blender with rest of water.
Strain again.
Rinse blender
Put milk back in blender, add other ingredients and mix
KEEP REFRIGERATED
p.s. you can add more or less water, once you know what you're doing, for a thicker or thinner milk. This recipe is the average.
p.p.s. The PTB say that a handful of nuts per week will increase your life span.

You can add all kinds of yummies to this milk to make nog, soup, etc. It's fabulous on granola.

Hi,
I don't remove the skins at all. They are ground up and become part of the pulp. You could peel them if you like, but I, personally feel that it's good to get the whole food, together, the way it was created. There are probably nutrients in the skin that go along with, compliment, or empower the nutrients in the nut. Nature put the skin on the nut so I just feel like it's probably best to consume natures combination. If you want to peel them I guess you'd have to just do it with your fingers, one by one. It really is yummy without peeling them though.

This may not agree with everyone but I put the almonds (raw) into water and just as the water reaches bolling remove and strain off the water, the intent is to help lifting of the skin then just squeeze the skin off, you don't want to cook them...

Hi,
I'm just wondering why you want to remove the skin.
Chloie
Oh, and just a thought - it may do less cooking if you just dropped them quickly in the boiling water and removed them, as opposed to letting them heat up with the water. I suspect your nuts really are cooked when you do this. You can find out by leaving the skin on a few, soaking them for about 8 hours, draining then rinsing every few hours and see if they sprout.

I, being a raw food enthusiast, agree that the nuts are MUCH more beneficial when eaten raw - even more so if soaked. But you still are getting a LOT of good benefits from the nuts, even if they're cooked. So, you're still doing a good thing.

Thanks, Gerry,
For what it's worth, I haven't had a prob with bitterness. It does turn quickly, after a day or two and get a "flavor". And it's true, it's not really white, but more of a light tan when the skin is left on. If you strain it well though there won't be any roughage. I guess whichever way you like it, it's still good for you. Just much easier to not have to remove the skins. I think I'd never make it if I had to do that. I guess I'm lucky I haven't tried removing the skins. It might taste better, then I'd be doomed to skin the little buggers!

You can make a very powerful health drink by adding sesame seeds, and raw sunflower seeds to the almonds, loaded with Vit B17, some even like to mix this seed milk along with the cottage cheese and Flax Oil, good
