Until you find your 10Vdc, start by assuming 14v from your 13.5 -13.8 V auto socket, worst case... add 6, "0.65" V-drop 1A or 3A diodes. An old school auto charger can kick out 15-18Vdc, unloaded, so

Do you have the original charger? It should saw what the max input voltage is for the charger on the sticker on the bottom. My experience is that the input voltage to the drop in charger is 10.5 Vdc.
