New ios...think I'll wait

Howdy! Seeing as many people are experiencing all kinds of issues with their iPhones and iPads, i'm thinking about waiting to update.

Agree or disagree? iPhoneXR, 2019 iPad Air.

Thanks!

It is up to you.? I been on the Public Beta and at 13.2 with a 11 Pro Max and it’s been

great.? It was the initial iOS 13 that had most of the problems.? It has just been getting

better and faster each update at least for me.

Disagree.
You may not face the same problems since you are already having the latest devices.
They are first to be tested for bugs.

Keep in mind human nature:
If 1,000,000 people update, and 500 have problems, you will see 2-3000 problem-related comments online from those 500 people, ?and only about 1000 comments from the other 999,500 folks with NO problems.

I am one of the 999,500…. No problems whatsoever with the recent updates…
However, if my livelihood depended on it, I would probably wait 90 days or so before applying any update...

Most updates that Apple releases is a security update. Do you really want to take a chance on security for 90 days?

In the past, I did’t wait too long before installing an update (certainly not 90 days for a security update). ?Maybe a week to see what happens. ?

Interestingly, for the very first time that I can recall, there were articles out before the 13 update appeared, suggesting people delay. ?It was already known that 13.1 was close on the heals due to already discovered bugs. ?So, I did wait till the update came out.

Only to find 13.1.1, followed by 13.1.2 and now 13.1.3 all within a few weeks of the initial release of 13.

I agree that in the past it appeared that the issues were not wide spread (the 500 out of 1M). ?Not so sure about this release.

I don’t know if 13 is an anomaly or warning that things are getting so complex for Apple that they are not as able to release clean software.

Time will tell. ?Yes, I did update to 13.1.3 already. ?Fingers crossed.

Many people who never complain simply accept, unquestioningly, whatever comes their way. I suspect most of us are like that.

Most updates that Apple releases is a security update. Do you really want to take a chance on security for 90 days?

And in the first months after a major release, security upgrade are normally also issued for the most recent past release of the OS

In other words, if a security update is released for Catalina, it most likely is also released for Mojave.

Or if released for iOS 13.1, probably also for iOS 12.4 …

Thanks Brent...

I should have thought a little more about what I had written before sending it...

First off, I was thinking about a new release update rather than a bug fix update when I said I would wait, and second... yes 90 days is longer than you need to wait for errors in a new release to show up. But waiting for 3-7 days on a major release update could make sense.

Another question that users of iPhone 6 and older devices have to ask themselves is whether or not they want to risk continuing to use phones that do not get updates at all... the answer to which seems to be for many “Yes, I am willing to risk that”.

People are buying and presumably using older smartphones that do not get support at all... have a look at completed sales on eBay for example to see them.

I have iOS13.1.3 on an iPad Air and for me it’s still causing issues. The most annoying are the fact that launching 3rd part apps from the launch remains inconsistent, battery drain seems worse and editing/selecting ?text is not consistent. I we’ll definitely wait before doing my phone. ?

The original iPad Air is NOT listed (by iMore) as compatible with iPadOS 13. The Air 2 and later models ARE listed as compatible.

That being said, I might well be nervous about upgrading the oldest models claimed to be compatible, at least until I had heard good reports from users.

iOS 13 seems to have more problems than any of the earlier releases.
Almost all 3rd party Apps have erratic behaviour.
I think the structural change of introducing File manager is the main culprit.
Apple, in most likelihood, will cut back some the new features of iOS 13 as their back room guys are unable to cope up. 3 patches in less than a month must be a new record.

With best wishes,
Pabitra

The new "improved" Reminders app in iOS 13 added a lot of fancy extras. But the ability to set a reminder on the Watch and have it synchronize with the iPhone and iPad vanished.

After hours on the phone with an Apple tech and the tech forwarding info to the engineers about this issue (among others) I got a response. The upshot was "that’s how it works (or in this case doesn’t work) for now. Maybe the syncing will be returning in a later update." So a really useful feature was replaced by a host of less useful bells and whistles.

My iPhone 7's battery runs down faster with 13 as well. Great update.

I’ve had no problems with third party apps on my devices which are an iPhone 11 Pro and two iPad Pros. ?My Apple Watch is also behaving normally. ?The only inconvenience I’ve had is that Reminders do not sync to Macs that are not running Catalina and I’m not yet ready to upgrade my system.
