I should have thought a little more about what I had written before sending it...
First off, I was thinking about a new release update rather than a bug fix update when I said I would wait, and second... yes 90 days is longer than you need to wait for errors in a new release to show up. But waiting for 3-7 days on a major release update could make sense.
Another question that users of iPhone 6 and older devices have to ask themselves is whether or not they want to risk continuing to use phones that do not get updates at all... the answer to which seems to be for many ¡°Yes, I am willing to risk that¡±.
People are buying and presumably using older smartphones that do not get support at all... have a look at completed sales on eBay for example to see them.
