CFA-News - Scoring

The Cat Fanciers' Association
Scoring
?March 22, 2020
?? ?

During these times of dealing with the coronavirus, our top priority is the health and well being of our CFA family.? Please follow the guidelines of medical professionals which includes frequent hand washing, avoid touching your face, keep a safe distance from others, etc.??

There has been concern expressed regarding the impact on our various end-of-season awards based on whether or not the Crab & Mallet show is scored.? The Board will meet on Wednesday night to make that decision.? In preparation for that meeting, Central Office staff has scored the Region 1-9 national Top 25 both with and without including points won at that show.? I can tell you that scoring this show has no impact on which cats place in the Top 25 in Kittens, Championship, and Premiership.? The same 25 cats rank in the Top 25.? There is some movement within the rankings, but no cats fall out and no new cats move in.

What about Regional awards and national breed wins?? Staff will score those awards with and without points earned at Crab & Mallet early next week.? Since it has not been done, I can not share any information with you regarding that.

Totally unrelated to Crab & Mallet there is a change in the Top 25 Kittens in Regions 1-9.? The latest Epoints posted are through shows held March 7-8.? There was a show in Europe the weekend of February 29 and the show package arrived too late to be included in that set of Epoints. Once the European show was scored, a kitten from Region 9 moved into the Top 25 in the Region 1-9 national rankings.??

After the upcoming board meeting we will distribute information resulting from that meeting.? We appreciate the many emails received with your thoughts on the topics to be discussed.?

In the meantime, our thoughts are with each of you.? Stay healthy, both mentally and physically. Stay in touch with your friends throughout CFA.

The Cat Fanciers' Association
Central Office Closing
?March 22, 2020
?? ?

The Ohio governor has issued an order requiring non-essential work places to close and have staff work from home effective midnight Monday.? In anticipation of such an order, we had already made plans to accommodate such an order.??Employees have already been contacted to ensure they have a spot to work from at home and our Executive Director will?provide them with some tips for efficient work-from-home practices. Snail mail will continue to be picked up at the post office and processed.

Phone Calls: a message will be placed for incoming calls to report that the physical office is closed due to COVID and that registration work and other types of work will continue to be processed remotely by office staff. We will encourage people to email the person they want to talk with and will also provide a general email to use for general questions. Our receptionist will handle the general email. Allene or Shirley Dent will check the phone system in the office each day for any messages left on voice mail and have the appropriate person get in touch with them. A list of employees with email addresses will be placed on the special of CFA's website.
?
CFA is fortunate that we already have a number of employees working remotely from home and they will continue to do so. We have a great team in the CO and we will work together to ensure as little as disruption as possible for our customers.

We ask you to bear with us as we do our best to provide customer service during this extraordinary time.

CFA's Board of Directors met via teleconference Wednesday, March 25th.? Some of the decisions made were:

Crab & Mallet.? The board voted to score this show which was held on March 14-15, 2020.??

The Annual.? The Board voted to cancel this year's Annual Meeting scheduled for Spokane, Washington, June 19-20, 2020. Anyone who has paid the delegate registration fee will be reimbursed.??

Updated Epoints with points earned at shows not reflected in the most recent posted listing for shows through March 7-8, 2020, will be posted by tomorrow. There will be another Special Meeting of the Board on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 which will address these issues.

Regarding the Southern Region Show and Banquet

?
Special Announcement

Should We Proceed With the
CFA Southern Region Awards Banquet & Show as Planned?
CFA Southern Regional Director Kenny Currle states that the CFA Board of Directors continues to monitor the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak as well as the state and federal government¡¯s various closures of public spaces and decrees on transportation. As you may have heard, during the special telephonic meeting on March 25, the board voted to CANCEL the CFA Annual that was to be held June 19-20.

Our own Regional Awards Show and Banquet is currently scheduled to be held one week prior, on June 13-14.?CFA currently has cancelled all CFA shows until May 31 (two weeks prior to the Regional). We have no way of knowing how or if the outbreak will continue to progress, what closures may still be in place, or what new restraints will be in place in June.

As much as we want to continue on track, Kenny would like the region¡¯s input as to how to proceed with our Regional. One train of though is that if CFA cancels the Annual then the region should cancel its Regional, and for the same reason ¨C precaution. On the other hand, we may decide that our own region will not be impacted enough by that date and that our people will be willing to participate in the June event.

We also have one VERY important item to consider:?IF we proceed with the regional, we need for people to participate. The region MUST guarantee 55 room nights AND $5000 minimum of food (before tax and service charge) for the event. Otherwise, the region will be charged a $10,000 rental fee.

The regional committee has created an online poll to determine how our region wishes to proceed.?It is available here

This is an anonymous survey. If you have thoughts or ideas which you would like to share with Kenny, please feel free to email him at Kenny.currle2@...

Once we all decide whether or not to proceed with the Regional as planned, we will be discussing the path forward.

Thank you for your participation and your thoughts.

Teresa Keiger
CFA Southern Region Secretary

Followup to the Poll About the Regional

FOLLOW UP

Should We Proceed With the
?CFA Southern Region Awards Banquet & Show as Planned?

It¡¯s wonderful to see folks in our region expressing their concern about our Regional. And asking lots of questions. So¡let¡¯s clarify a few things.

Several folks have already asked both Kenny and myself about holding the regional at a later date.?The committee decided that it was easier and less confusing for everyone to break these questions into logical segments. The original poll and commentary did include questions about a later event, and, well, it was confusing for us! So, we decided that it was better to determine first if there was interest in having the Regional and show as planned, and what the support of either/both functions would be.

Why focus on this? It has to do with deposit deadlines. We will shortly be coming up on a deadline where we need to either pay another large deposit, or cancel. That means that we need to decide that question NOW, and then later focus on when and how we can safely hold our regional event.

¡°Safely hold¡± means a lot of things. It includes determining if venues will be open to the public and will we have enough advance notice to regroup. It includes the availability of travel ¨C if flights are regular and if folks driving long distances can take rest breaks.

Kenny has stated that it is his intention to be able to honor the 2019-2020 winners. It may very well be later in the year (if that is what the region wishes). It may have to change venues and/or manner of presentation depending on what is available when. But¡we will honor our winners.

That being said, let¡¯s wrap this poll up by noon Wednesday April 1.?After that point, we can either begin discussing plans for June, or plans for a later date.

Remember to vote:

Thank you for your participation and your thoughts.

CFA-News - Our Show Vendors

The Cat Fanciers' Association
Vendors
?April 4, 2020

Hi,

We are living through some challenging times with the COVID-19 pandemic which has spread around the world. I know of several in our CFA family who are currently suffering from this virus and at least one, former CFA judge Ricky Carroll, recently passed away due to it. I implore each of you to take this virus seriously. You need to follow the recommendations of health experts. Wash your hands frequently, refrain from touching your face, remain inside your home unless you need to report to work or purchase groceries or medications, etc. I know the non-stop reporting in the media about the coronavirus can be overwhelming but check it at least once a day since the guidance keeps changing. The use of masks is an example of advice that changed within the past few days. Each and every one of you is special to us and we need you to do your best to remain healthy and we look forward to spending time with you as soon as we can. For those of you who are on the front lines (such as doctors, nurses, veterinarians, & other essential employees) we hope you know how grateful we are that you are there for us.

The early ending of the show season was hard on many of us. In addition to the social aspects of our hobby which we now must avoid, there are those who were showing for the hopes of various awards. As you know, the board has been wrestling with the fairest ways to deal with these issues. For example, we lowered the minimums so additional cats qualified for end-of-season awards. Please understand that every board member is doing their best to make decisions that are fair. We realize that with every vote we take there are going to be people who agree with the final decision and some who will not agree. Regardless of whether or not you agree with the board's decisions, we hope you understand that each and every board member is voting with the best interests of CFA in mind.

One of the side-effects of cancelling our shows is the inability of our many vendors to be available in person to provide us with items and services we either need or just plain want. Many of our vendors rely on sales to help make ends meet. To assist with this, I directed our staff to create a page on the CFA website for vendors. This is a **FREE ** service.?? I am asking each show-producing club to reach out to your vendors and let them know about this new service available to them. To be included they just need to contact Amber Goodright (Agoodright@...) and provide her with some information such as the type of product (general supplies, jewelry, clothing, etc.), contact information including a link to a web page or Etsy listing), and a photo or logo (at least 300 x 300 pixels). They can even list a Current Special such as a discount on a type of shampoo, etc. Check out the web page here:
and I hope you will support our vendors that are opting to participate.

Dear Southern Region Club Secretary,

I'm sure by now you have received the ballots for your club for CFA officers and regional director.? We are all aware of the challenges our clubs will face as the world works through the COVID-19 pandemic, and we're going to need a plan going forward, even with the uncertainty of how and when this situation will resolve.

Below is a link to a short video with some ideas I have for going forward.? Obviously we'll do better with more input from the many clever people in our region, but these are some things to consider when getting started.? I'd appreciate it if you would share this with your club members and I hope you'll consider it when making your choice for regional director.? The QR code can also be used to get to the same information.

Thank you for your consideration.

Review is not considered a guarantee of favorable results or reimbursement by CFA.?

Central Office has recommended a small group locally near the Central Office under the supervision of the Committee chair. REGIONAL HOUSESHOLD PET AWARD PROPOSAL
Amend Article XXXVI National and Regional Awards
Current rule, Title of HHP Regional Winners is limited to Best - 10th, minimum of 100 points.
Motion: Change to All HHP receiving a regional award will be entitled to the HRW Prefix based on the awards given out by the regions. Minimum of 200 points.
RATIONALE: The number of awards given out by the Regions varies from 10 to 25. 3 Regions award top 10, 3 top 15 and 1 - up to 25 provided the minimum of 200 points are reached. HHP Exhibitors are not asking to have Regions change the number of awards given out but that any Region that do award more than 10 that these cats can also receive the HRW award. The reason for 200 points is that it insures all winners are a HHP GC.
If passed this would be effective for this past show season.
Withdrawn to return in June. IT will determine programming costs.

Our 2021 show - dedication to Ricky sugestion

    Hi Everyone,

Marcia suggested we dedicate the 2021 show to Ricky and I wholeheartedly agree.? She and I had some discussion and she asked me to send a note out based on the suggestions I came up with.

I have contacted Mary K and she would make the Rosettes in various shades of purple and she can even put a picture of Ricky on the streamers.? I have the picsart app and whichever picture we use I can make fancy and unique to put on the streamer - it would need to be a headshot (Lyn hoping you could provide that). ?

We can also decorate the cover and do a special insert page (Lyn could you write that?)

How does everyone feel about this and what other suggestions do you have?

    Linda

    Memo From Mark
    Hello Everyone!

I know many of you are frustrated with COVID-19 and the impact it is having on each of our lives.?My hope is that you remain healthy and if you are currently ill that you recover and return to a healthy status.?We value each of you and want to see you again once we are able to get together.?I want to salute our first responders who are not able to sit this pandemic out ¡ those working in the medical field, grocery stores, pharmacies, etc. Thank you for being there for us.
With the 2019-2020 show season completed, I want to congratulate all our awards winners and their owners.?Achieving a CFA award is deliberately difficult to achieve and for those of you who accomplished such a win, you deserve to be very proud.

For those of you who may have missed it our CFA Secretary, Rachel Anger, is one of the many who are staying home.?She does not have access to her work email.?Please use her home email address: Camberwel@....

At the April 1, 2020 meeting of the CFA Board of Directors, there was some confusion regarding how many national awards to which our Household Pets are entitled.?In both the 2018-2019 and the 2019-2020 show seasons we awarded up to Top 25 if minimum points were achieved.

Just a few days ago we rolled out a new feature on our website ¨C a page for the Vendors who support our shows.?We know our vendors¡¯ businesses are harmed by the cancellation of our shows and our exhibitors no longer have the opportunity for in-person purchases of goods and services. When I last checked we had more than 40 vendors who took advantage of this FREE opportunity.?Please check out this extensive listing and support our vendors.?You can find a link to this page in the upper right side of our CFA home page or go to: / .
Last Friday ballots were emailed to each club for the election of various seats on the CFA Board of Directors. Every club is encouraged to complete the ballot and return it to the Central Office. Check out the to see if your club¡¯s ballot has been received. Ballots need to be received in the CFA Central Office by June 1, 2020.??When and how will the ballots be counted??The current plan is to have the ballots counted on the Friday of what would have been the cancelled Annual meeting in June. As usual, Nancy Dodds, chair of the Credentials Committee, submitted a list of names of those who will tabulate the results.?Her proposed list was submitted to the board for approval.?The results of the election will be quickly shared via a CFA-News announcement.

Dick Kallmeyer continues his analysis of CFA registration data.?The pie charts (below) reflect registrations processed from May through March, so eleven months of the current fiscal year. Dick tells us that we show an increase from the same period of the previous year.?James Simbro¡¯s data shared with the board indicates even through the first week of April we continue to see healthy numbers of registrations.?Thank you, Dick, for your continued assistance.

    Central Office Report
    Allene Tartaglia, CFA Executive Director

    Sign of the Times
The Central Office is eerily quiet with only two or three of us working out of the office. The mask I¡¯m wearing was custom made for me and is definitely a sign of the times. Mostly all CO employees started working remotely from their homes on March 24 when the Governor of Ohio mandated non-essential businesses close. Some non-essential businesses could remain open but with only a skeleton staff on-site to maintain operations and that is what we are doing. CFA is fortunate that practically all office tasks can be done off-site since most registration services are submitted online or by email.
The ballots to vote for CFA Officers, Regional Directors and International Division Representatives were emailed on Friday, April 10 to the club secretaries of clubs eligible to vote. Contact Amber at the Central Office with questions or if your club needs a hard copy ballot mailed.
Clubs whose shows were cancelled by CFA or their local government due to the COVID pandemic have been refunded the show license and insurance fees. Please contact me if you haven¡¯t received your refund yet. Shortly, club and show secretaries for these same shows will be receiving an email from CFA outlining the parameters and procedure for recovering non-reimbursable expenditures such as advertising.
Delegate fees and any other payments related to the 2020 Annual Meeting, e.g. award dinners, have been refunded. If you did not receive a refund and believe you should, please contact me,
    CFA Facebook Frames
Cat shows are cancelled, and we're all staying home. Recently, CFA President Mark Hannon asked CFA's graphic designer Teresa Keiger to create a Facebook frame to both help us be "alone, together" and to help promote CFA. The response from our exhibitors has been great (and made for some really good-looking profiles photos too!) Below is just a sample of what we've seen.
Want to use this frame yourself? Go to . Click your?profile?picture in the bottom left and select your Page. Search for a?frame?by entering the?frame's?name, the creator's name or related words. Choose the?frame?you want to use from the results.

    Ambassador Cat Program Co-Chair

The Ambassador Cat Program is a true success because of our wonderful and friendly cats, and their owners. Our cats reach out and touch not only the hearts of our spectators at our cat shows, but they are the heart of our Ambassador Program.

Danny and Nancy Bueno have been a fixture at most shows up and down our West Coast. Whenever I have traveled to shows in this area, I get to see Danny and visit with Nancy, another friend. dedicated to CFA.

Danny is a CFA Silver Star Award Winner and we thank Mark for giving Danny this special award. Danny is only the third CFA Ambassador Cat to receive this honor.

Danny shared his good nature and sweet personality for many, many years. It is with a heavy heart, we say goodbye to our friend, Danny, as he crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

We received this letter from Nancy about Danny¡¯s passing and I wanted to share this with everyone. The last time I saw Danny, I wish I would have petted his bright, shiny coat one more time,

And to Nancy, thank you for sharing this special cat with all of us.
GP Coppercats Danuwa Analihi of Najo
    aka CFA Ambassador Cat ¡°Danny¡±

    August 30, 2005 to March 21, 2020

The name ¡°Danuwa Anahlihi¡± is Cherokee for ¡°warrior,¡± and Danny certainly was a warrior for his entire life. And what a life he had! CFA show cat, CFA Ambassador Cat, model for artists and companies, therapy cat who worked with veterans and their families, my medical service animal and my constant companion. Danny was pure love, and in return, he was truly loved. He helped so many people. Danny was an important part of so many lives.

The end of his days came quickly. He was happy and seemed to be healthy at the Call of the Wild Cat Club show on February 15 and 16, 2020. Just a couple of weeks later he had quickly lost weight and I took him to see his vet on March 9, 2020. The next day he was hospitalized for 72 hours for a ¡°kidney flush¡± and returned home with me on March 13, 2020.
His veterinarian said that he was eating everything in sight and doing better.?She said he enjoyed his stay at the vet ¨C typical Danny, he thought it was another cat show. But on returning home, his appetite had not improved, nor had he gained weight.

We lived at the veterans home in Northern California, and at this time the coronavirus situation was getting worse. Getting veterinary care would soon be impossible. My very good friends Whitney and Andy Perkins insisted I come to be with them in order to protect Danny and protect me, and we left for their house on March 17.

I had not received a prognosis from my vet, and Danny still losing weight. We took Danny to Whitney's vet on the 19th. Bloodwork came back showing worse than what Danny¡¯s vet had told me.Diagnostics showed that Danny had kidney failure, the right side of heart was enlarged and the vet heard a murmur. White blood count also indicated an infection. But Danny was alert and attentive and we could see he definitely wanted to live and we started additional medications.
On Friday, there was no improvement and I questioned his quality of life at this point. That evening we talked with the vet and she agreed we should release him. We made an appointment for the next day ¡ today ¡ Saturday, March 21, 2020.

At about 6 am today, Danny was in distress. I was awake and holding him. His pretty Siamese girlfriend Catty became upset, began yelling and awoke Whitney and Andy. Danny¡¯s death was quick. Only about 15 minutes total. Not enough time for an emergency trip to the vet.
Danny died while I was holding him and he was hugging me like he always does. . Just as when he lived, he was surrounded by love. We took him for cremation just a few hours later.

Thank you to all the many friends who love Danny. Without your generous support, I could not have made his last days as comfortable for him. He was provided with every chance to survive, but his body was not up to that task. There is no way I can ever thank you enough for how you have helped and supported us.

This definitely is a challenging time .. for everyone.?The CFA Foundation temporarily closed the Feline Historical Museum on March 14th when Karen returned to her home in Canada.?She is working from home, handling the more mundane, behind the scenes commitments such as our monthly and quarterly IRS and State of Ohio reports, as well as working on our social media sites.

CFA has very kindly relieved us of our rent obligations during the mandatory Ohio business closure. For that, we offer our hearty thanks.
So, like many companies, we¡¯ve turned completely to social media to stay in touch and inform people about our collection.?We¡¯ve completed a total revision of our web site and are thrilled with the updates to the site. Visit us at
As you know, The History Project is a collaboration between the CFA Foundation and John Smithson¡¯s Harrison Weir Collection. Lately, we¡¯ve kept John busy writing for The History Project. New Zealand, where he lives, is currently in the middle of a four-week shutdown so he¡¯s taking advantage of the extra time to write his fabulous cat stories, which we are adding to the web site and then promoting on Facebook.

In addition, we¡¯ve done a slight revision to the site by adding a new drop down menu, allowing easier access to all of the various breed articles and photo galleries.?Who would have guessed that we were now up to 432 individual historical cat pages on the site! Considering we launched the site only 6 years ago, it¡¯s grown way beyond our original expectations and ideas. And, we are still full of plans to add a variety of exciting enhancements to the site.
Several recently added pages on artifacts include:
    • 1872, UK
    • 1878, , Boston, MA
    • 1886, ,UK
    • 1914, , San Francisco, CA
    • 1935, , UK

Plus, we¡¯ve completed a new cat history page ¨C be sure and read all about , a blue Persian, born in England in 1892, and bred by the very respected Miss Gertrude Jay.

We also invite to you to LIKE our page, where we keep in touch by posting numerous photos of special items in our collection.

We hope everyone stays healthy. Social distancing will certainly help to defeat this virus, as much as we feel the pain of being apart from our family and friends. Hopefully, life will return to normal in the not-so-distant future. In the meantime, we look forward to keeping in touch online.

    Responding to the COVID-19 Pandemic

COVID-19 is creating challenges in every aspect of our lives. As the coronavirus was recognized as a pandemic requiring measures to reduce contagion, state governments needed to reassess their normal practices. Some state legislatures were close to adjournment and ended their sessions early. Others not in session postposed the start date. Some state legislatures that were still in session, temporarily suspended their sessions as state employees needed to work remotely, group meetings were restricted or not permitted, and others with legislative business could not safely do it in person. Most states were able to stop working in accordance with laws and session rules governing adjournment or suspension in systems designed for tight schedules and deadlines. For states that set dates certain to resume, the evolving measures to combat the pandemic are requiring adjustments that make keeping state by state information lists difficult to keep current. Ballotpedia has an , ¡°Changes to state legislative session dates in response to the coronavirus (COVID19) pandemic, 2020¡±. For up to the minute information, check state legislatures¡¯ websites and do internet searches for media sources.

Local governments are grappling with the same issues. They are constrained by state and local orders restricting or prohibiting gatherings even when government work is permitted as essential. Even if remote meetings may be legally allowed, implementing the requirements may be difficult or infeasible. With changing circumstances daily and the increasing need to reduce contagion from asymptomatic carriers, check local information frequently to determine the status of scheduled public meetings.

Breeders subject to USDA, state or local breeder licensing should check for information about any planned changes for renewal or administrative procedures or to routine inspections including social distancing among people and necessary personal protection and sanitation measures to prevent contagion.

Every animal owner, must be aware of the conditions that are and will be affecting the ways we care for them in obtaining their food, veterinary care and keeping them safe. As the pandemic is evolving, there are local, regional and national factors to be aware of and plan for as we move through this period of uncertainty. While obtaining pet food and veterinary care are or should be deemed ¡°essential services¡± to remain available, the realities require knowing what is actually available and how to obtain it. Much of this information is local, but when ordering must be done, supply and delivery times can be uncertain. In some areas, routine veterinary services are also being discontinued until it is legal and safe for veterinary personnel and clients to resume normal activities. Pet owners may find it difficult to obtain vaccinations, any kinds of elective procedures or diagnostics, routine exams or health certificates if needed. Check regularly on local veterinary practices and plan accordingly including prescriptions. Fanciers may also want to look into mobile veterinary services that may be available. Another veterinary service that is beginning to fill the gap are telemedicine video visits (same for humans, too.) Veterinary practice regulations had been expanding to allow these and may be being relaxed more quickly due to the emergency. Check individual practices to determine details of availability, appropriate use and eligibility, technical requirements and costs. Otherwise, the restrictions on access to care are increasing and practice staffing decreasing so be aware of local conditions and special needs. Anyone, breeder or otherwise planning to transfer animals should carefully consider whether there are safe, feasible ways to do this or to delay until conditions change.

Another concern is whether animals can catch COVID-19 from people or vice versa. Two cats, two dogs, and a tiger in a New York zoo have been reported to be infected with the coronavirus. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), porous materials such as paper money and pet fur tend to absorb and trap the virus, making it difficult to contract by touching these types of items. Since there is much to learn about COVID-19, the AVMA recommends that you let someone else care for your animals whenever possible should you .

Ultimately, the best thing we can do for our pets is to stay healthy ourselves. As that is not entirely in our control, make sure your emergency planning is in place as you would during hurricane season or wildfire season. Knowing you have sufficient supplies in case you are quarantined and have a plan for your pets care will reduce your stress levels. Contact your vet and your local emergency veterinary clinic so you know how they will be operating during this time. With the fluidity of the situation, this can change quickly and without notice. Check on friends and family periodically. Stay up-to-date on coronavirus news from trusted sources that include data and trend analysis and frequent updates. These include state and local health departments and special projects of major newspapers. is a useful resource for the pandemic and how to handle it for both pet owners and veterinarians.

There will be cat shows again. In the meantime, stay safe and stay healthy. For fanciers in the medical and veterinary fields, or other essential businesses, thank you!

Due to the impact of COVID-19 there have been numerous [temporary] changes to federal income tax law and procedure.?Many were part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.?Others are administrative directives made by the Treasury Secretary.?The changes are too extensive to list all of them here.?But a few affecting individual taxpayers or their charitable contributions include:
    • The deadline for filing calendar 2019 federal income-tax returns, and payment of any tax due, has been delayed from April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020.?Many states have adopted the same schedule but you should check with your state(s) to determine their filing deadline.??
    • The deadline for making retroactive IRA contributions for 2019 has also been extended to July 15, 2020.??
    • There will be direct federal recovery payments of $1,200 to individuals ($2,400 for joint taxpayers) and $500 for each dependent child.?This payment is phased out for higher income taxpayers.?If you have filed your 2019 taxes the IRS will use information from that return to distribute your recovery payment.?If you have not filed for 2019 your 2018 federal tax return will be used. The IRS will use Social Security data to generate payments to Social Security recipients who may not have filed federal income taxes for the past two years.??
    • Mandatory minimum distributions from certain retirement plans/accounts are waived in calendar year 2020.
    • There will be a $300 ¡°above-the-line¡± charitable deduction for donations made during 2020 and claimed on your 2020 return next year.?This will allow taxpayers taking the standard deduction to still benefit from a limited charitable deduction in addition to their standard deduction.
    • The 60% of AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) limit on individual deduction for cash donations to charity has been lifted for 2020 (although the deduction for all charitable contributions still can not exceed 100% of AGI).?For 2020 corporations may deduct up to 25% of taxable income (from 10%). This means itemizers may be able to deduct more of their charitable contributions made this year.
Additional changes in federal income tax law may be made as the COVID-19 pandemic progresses.?Please consult with your attorney, accountant, or other tax advisor for more information.

I hope everyone is home and staying safe from the Covid-19 virus, as we all want to see you back at the shows when this is over! We, as a country, let alone the world, have not seen a killer like this since the early 1900's with the Spanish Flu.

I hope you are using this time to do those projects at home we would normally let slide, because it is the last month of the season and many would be traveling to shows.?I personally have done a cattery remodel during this time.?That was stressful enough without going to shows!

We have canceled the Regional Awards Banquet for this year; however, we will be doing everything else we normally do.?We will be making the Award booklet, and we will have a special section for congratulatory wishes from your friends and fellow exhibitors. We will be taking sponsorship as usual, maybe even a YouTube video of the winners.?That is all in the planning stages.

Most importantly, when this is all over, it is important for everyone to be here!?We want to be able to enjoy our hobby that we all love, see our friends, and celebrate our cats!
Until then, we will be dreaming of cat shows and making those next grand champions and regional winners.

Be watching for announcements where to send your pictures and sponsorships!

The Regional show and banquet ¨C originally scheduled for June 6 in Coralville IA ¨C was canceled. Future plans are fluid for now, with hopes of incorporating the awards into an existing show when it all opens up. Staying at home did not deter Midwest exhibitors from the region denying themselves hanging out with their cats, or even incorporating them into their work schedules.
Sueann Spinder of Morton, Ill. had to maneuver for desk space and even had help to attend faculty meetings with Google.
The blanket served as a holding place while Sueann Spinder got her work done.
Countrygal Scarlet observes her family and practices social distancing in Linda Lyon¡¯s house in Lincoln, NE.?I didn¡¯t know that Persians could get up that high.
Nuggy has on her Easter Regalia.?Many know Nuggy from the shows toodling around in her ¡°ride¡±.?Nuggy lives with Lori and Shannon Alexander from northern Illinois.?Both Lori and Shannon are struggling with health issues and the cats give them a lot of comfort for the time home.

Region 7 has postponed its regional awards show and banquet until later in the year when it will be safe to hold it. An overwhelming number of people in the region supported the idea of delaying the banquet until it was assuredly safe to hold it. Regression of the pandemic and availability of venue will ultimately determine when and where
Congratulations to all of our Southern Region winning cats, and a bit round of applause to our 17 National Winners! (apologies if the titles are not exactly correct as the final info has not yet been released)

Europe In a State of Emergency
What a strange situation, something happened nobody ever expected. Cat shows are canceled and not only cat shows, the show season was finished weeks before seasons end, regional awards banquet is canceled or moved to later this year, borders are closed, flights do not happen and traveling is is almost down to zero. We have to stay home for our safety and for the safety of our countries.
What a surprise, the world is still spinning and the time moves on. There are people spending 24/7 online on social media and think this is real life. Sorry my friends, this isn't the truth. Life is around you: your family, your real friends, your neighborhood, your animals. I personally wasn't bored for an hour during the last couple of weeks. The good thing with us is, that we we have our animals. So, if you have animals around you, you always have something to do. Animals give you love and pride and this is important, they also give your day a structure. So let's be happy having our cats and maybe, other animals with us.
As your regional director for Europe I also have a busy time in CFA. There were dramatic decisions?to do, which I never had expected to do and nobody before me/us ever had to do. Even to stand up at 1.40 am for another board meeting at 2.00 pm is a challenge, but it needs to be done and it's important to do this. What a surprise it was that so many of the " very important " decisions were done by the CFA board unanimously. There are lots of constitution rules and show rules we had to care about, but also common sense was asked. Yes, there is always people who know everything better and discuss without having background information, but there are also people who support CFA and keep the business running. Thanks to all of them.
Today it's Easter Sunday in Germany and I know also for the rest of the world. This is the highest Christian holiday we have. Usually people celebrate this day with family members and good friends. This year everything is different. Lets think of all the people we know and love in the cat fancy and maybe this gets us closer for the future.
Have a great spring time, stay healthy and all the best

Re: Our 2021 show - dedication to Ricky sugestion

Mary also came up with a suggestions when we were discussing possible rosettes - make the theme a Spring theme instead of Easter (Easter is April 4 in 2021) and she will use lots of purple :-)? I like this idea as a Theme.? Any comments or other suggestions?

    Linda

Re: Our 2021 show - dedication to Ricky sugestion

Hi Everyone, super busy with work. In spit of COVID-19 I must work so forgive late weigh in. David has moved the show to a consistent weekend each year I believe so Easter weekend is no longer. I think this avoided the yearly negotiations I had to go through and avoided the potential for us to "step" on some other club weekend. Also it is the second to last weekend and should produce great entries. So really a great decision from show scheduling and CFA IMO. I think everyone knows this but wanted to start off with that little factoid just in case.

Would it be possible for old times sake to consider "real" rosettes? No offense to Mary but having a simple rosette all purple with entire show hall decorations in purple would be so nice. I will ask Shirley how much we have in the treasury. i.e. can we afford it. Linda do you know what Mary would charge for comparison?

Keir will help me with whatever page insert, covers etc are needed. I would be glad to write up a story. I pray shows will resume this next show season but they may need to undergo some changes which may affect budget. So if Mary's rosettes are the most economical that may weigh in heavily. I just hate to commit to that right now. I also recognize I am only 1 vote :-).?

I miss everyone and maybe once this settles we can have some of you over for a BBQ and show planning session? The lake gets more beautiful by the day and I am SO grateful for the extended daylight and the ability to take our dog on long hikes around the trails that are here in Lake Linganore.?

Remember if you are getting bored at home that I am super jealous of your ability to stay home and be bored. This seems like forever that I have working and coping with the emotions from leadership above me and the concerns of those who are required to report and work. Our leadership is concerned about revenue over people and our employees know that. I am the messenger so if you think of it pray for me that I remain steadfast and do my job well for the sake of those I work with and the mission we support. May this all be over soon. Losing Ricky during this time was a huge blow to Keir & I as she was family.?

I do hope everyone is safe and healthy in these trying times, Lyn?

Your Southern Region Newsletter - April 2020

    NEWSLETTER
Correction to the CFA Newsletter Submission for Region 7

    Teresa Keiger
    Regional Secretary

We know that cats will, as Robert A. Heinlein said "do as they please," wandering off without a word, tucking themselves in places that they should not, or hiding in plain sight. And so it was with some of our National Winning cats in yesterday's Southern Region submission for the CFA Newsletter.

Regional Director Kenny Currle had asked me to pull together the list of our region's National Winners for inclusion in the CFA Newsletter. Do realize that although epoints are posted, it's not the official, final data for the region or nationally. Agility scoring is done by CFA Central office, but it hasn't been released at all yet. So, there are no actual lists to work from...only what is online.

Did you see how many there are! I DIDN'T see all of them, and I omitted GC, NW?KETREX RAVENSHADOW? as CFA's 23rd Best Cat.?This cat will also be included in next month's submission. My apologies for my omission.

    Household Pet National Winners

Official lists for Household Pet National Winners have not been released yet, and I neglected to include them as well. They (and the Agility Winners) will be included in the May CFA Newsletter. Our National Winning Household Pets from the Southern Region are:

1 HIGHLANDKATZ KEEP A STRAIGHT FACE?
    9 GEORGE?
    10 RIVERSPOTS PIRATE?
    11 DIRTY HAIRY?
    13 ATHENA?
    14 BOB?
    15 REBA WISE??
    17 DEXTER?
    24 APOLLO??
    25 MY ABBY?
    Submit Your Photos NOW? ?

YES the photo collection team is collecting photos! We'll need them for the website, for the region's yearbook ad, and we're still planning on creating an presentation of our winning cats.?

Have you granded a cat? Earned a DM or Grand of Distinction title? Then they're going to need your photo in June. Avoid the end of season rush and?send it in now!

    CFA Show News

From the CFA telephonic board meeting held Tuesday, April 14:

Motion: Due to the global coronavirus pandemic, effective immediately CFA will extend the current moratorium on issuing show licenses for any show, regardless of show date or location to June 30, 2020. This motion may be revisited, ended early, extended or subject to individual case-by-case exceptions. Once the moratorium is lifted and show license applications are once again accepted, shows within the late fee window will not accrue a late fee. - Carried
