[macsupport] Odd behavior 2 #Mac
I don't mean to be rude, just encouraging a member from the old list to move over. Guy, good job of describing the problem, but I believe you have had this problem for a while, and I don't remember you explaining what you have tried. First, older Macs slow for several reasons. The hardest to resolve is the detritus that accumulates over time. RAM sometimes begin to fail. Each time you start up the RAM is tested. I would use a third party app to check yours. How much RAM do you have? The more you have to longer it takes. Also the more Startup Items you have slow down your Mac. I have a early 2008 MBP maxed out at 4 GB, running 10.7.5, and it seems like it takes 10 minutes to start up. I have an exceptionally slow internet connections, and it takes minutes to open Mail and then a browser. Your Mac is newer, so should be faster than mine. I would suggest that you look up Randy Singer's web site and check out his suggestions for slow Macs. Brent Begin forwarded message:

This is amazing. Since moving to groups.io we already have 169 users join. That is great considering that most of the list on yahoo groups was not active in the group anymore. Dave

Keyboard chaos 6 #Hardware #Resolved
Having swapped everything and every slot, I was at wits end. I had a spare Apple keyboard plugged into the loaner laptop PC. For the hell of it, I tried it. It works! Once logged into the iMac, I swapped the dead Apple keyboard for the working one. Nothing. I plugged the dead keyboard into the laptop PC. The PC recognized and set it up, but it doesn't type in the laptop either. I'm guessing the resuming power zapped the keyboard, keys, but nothing else. So, what about the MACALLY keyboard that appeared to also be dead? Once logged into the iMac, I swapped the Apple for the MACALLY. The iMac didn't care and the MACALLY works just fine now. It has replaced the good keyboard on this loaner laptop.

Fujitsu Scansnap software 5 #AppleSoftware
(for Randy Singer) Randy, you¡¯ve posted a few messages here that members of your attorney user group and not enamored of the "Scansnap Home¡± software fro Fujitsu scanners that has replaced ¡°Scansnap Manager.¡± Do you know what the sore points are in the replacement software? I believe I won¡¯t have a choice if/when I move from Mojave to Catalina, but if I have a good idea what to expect perhaps the pain won¡¯t be so bad¡ Jim Robertson

Old back up in trash by mistake..Help! 21 #Mac
I did a really dumb thing when I looked at my back up drive. I saw that the back up for my old Mac Pro was in there, and without thinking I sent it to the trash. Unfortunately there was no option to put it back and if I tried to drag it there, it just wanted to make a copy. I tried Trash it..didn¡¯t work. I tried delete immediately by trying to do one folder at a time, and that didn¡¯t work. If I can¡¯t get the old back up out of the trash, My new computer is in trouble. If I could only have the option of Putting it back, that should solve here problem, but I see no where to do that. Any ideas of how, or a way to get my trash can emptied? Jeannie?

Catalina 10.15.1 Changes
Howdy. A bunch of Bug fixes, as usual with updates. A very visible Siri Opt In screen during first access after update. Apple was criticized for recording users' Siri requests then using the recordings to improve Siri but not telling users of this. You can open the Siri panel in System Preferences and in Siri History you can Delete Siri & Dictation History from Apple servers as your option. New Emojis. AirPod Pro support. New things in Photos app including a new Metadata feature (in Photos under the View menu). New 2019 Mac Pro Imminent?
Howdy. The United States FCC (Federal Communications Communication) has apparently approved the new Mac Pro 2019 tower. This often means it will shortly go on sale. <https://www.appleworld.today/blog/2019/10/30/ua1acawkmprn7pvlxv1nnj7ijk35na> Denver Dan [|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|] iSent from iDan's GyazMail on my MacPro

Catalina Search, Find, Spotlight Oddness 2
Howdy. I'm on macOS X 10.15.1 Catalina. Yesterday evening I updated from macOS X 10.15 to 10.15.1. This morning I tried some searches using Command f (Find). The Spotlight indexing was suddenly including in search results a slew of files in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup. Search had not done that ever before. For Mac newbies, the tilde (~/Library) character represents your Home Account Library folder and not the other two Library folders. The MobileSync/Backups folder is where the Mac keeps Backups of mobile devices like iPhone and iPad. The subfolder names are gobbledegook and no help in manually locating something. Questions. Is this something new? Is it a Bug ? Should MobileSync be added to the Exclude list in Time Machine panel? General OS Upgrade Policy 5 #Upgrading
Whenever I bought a new car, I usually waited until the new or updated model is about a year old. I've remained equally patient with MAC OS software, hoping by the time I update, the bugs have been weeded out. Since I am a relative newbie to the world of technology, I have no idea whether what I'm doing is prudent or not. But recently, I noticed that some members of both groups seem to be in no hurry to update. As a matter of fact, a couple of contributors seem to be running one or two operating systems behind what is current. I have Mojave and I'm waiting for a good time to install Catalina. Please note, I use my MacBook Air for the basics, rarely more: e-mail, music, photos and just a few websites. Does the old adage apply? "If it ain`t broke don't try to fix it." I would love some input from those more experienced and knowledgeable.

Duplicate Calendar Holidays 13
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204123 pat Becky Lindroos wrote: I use the calendar which comes with the MacBook Air (10.14.5) but at some point in my updates I got 2 notices of each holiday in each box. I¡¯ve tried turning off all the holidays but no effect - they don¡¯t turn off. How do I do this? Becky

Need 2 Folders Open on Desktop 6
I need to have two folders on my desktop open at the same time. One is an external HD, the other is a folder containing RAW images. I¡¯ve googled for the solution but nothing I am trying seems to work. I know this used to happen automatically but now I am just baffled. I have a feeling there is an easy solution but it is just escaping me. I am on a 15¡± Macbook Pro running Mojave. Thanks for any help you can send my way.

Result of deleting the time machine of my old Mac Pro 4
Well, thankfully my trash is now emptied, after I foolishly , without thinking, sent the old Mac Pro backups to trash. There was about 2 years worth. After nothing worked, I decided to just let the trash try to empty itself on Saturday afternoon. It chugged away bravely till late yesterday afternoon, when It hit about 2 million files and stopped. At that point, I had about 6 months, from Sometime in April to sept 16 left in 49 folders. Now, I was able to do the delete immediately command to individual Folders. Last night I could do 2 at a time, and by this am, 4. Now it is all finished..Phew..Yay! I am really pleased with how my new Imac handled this task. I should have know better, but just was not thinking . Two Mac pros ago, my backup would not delete when the disk was getting full. When I got the notice, I would have to manually delete, and it was a PITA! I almost always had to resort to Trash It! But this Imac just kept chugging along like the little engine that could until the job was done, and it saved me from reformatting and staring all over Jeannie?

Photo folders in 27 inch iMac 7
I recently bought a 27 inch Imac. Previously I had a Mac Pro with 2 monitors. When I would look into a photo folder all the photos were contained within the width of the folder, and I only had to scroll down to see all of them. Now with the 27 inch iMac, I also have to scroll across the width. The only way I can see the images entirely within the width is if I make them so small that I can not really see them. I asked a friend of mine with just a 27 inch monitor, as well as another friend who also has a 27 inch Imac, and they do not have this problem. I have tried everything. When I was speaking to a technician at Apple , he said he had never heard of this, and he had no solution for me.I have tried everything within the view options, But nothing so far has worked Does anyone have any idea about a fix? Jeannie?

Intermittent booting from clone 4
Base level 2018 Mini - 128GB SSD and 8GB RAM. Upgraded to Catalina and seemed OK for a while. I have a LaCie connected by a TB3 to TB2 adaptor and set up as Mirror RAID, one partition of which holds a SuperDuper clone which is working fine. Switching on the Mini one day and it was taking ages to boot with a lot of disk activity on the LaCie. It was booting from the clone and not the SSD. I let it finish booting and checked which startup disk was enabled. It was the correct disk. Restarted and it booted correctly and did so for the next few days. Then it did it again. So far it has booted from the clone 3 times at random intervals. I could always startup with the Option key but this is not ideal. Or I could disconnect the LaCie and reconnect after booting. This also is not ideal. Any ideas anyone? Regards, Joe joe@...
