Re: New Mac - Music question
开云体育That’s great news!As an aside, I’ve learned a bit about iTunes/Music over the years. Our collection became too big for our Macs and was moved to a NAS years ago. I’ve found that despite some excellent built-in tools and some from the excellent Doug Adams <>, I found I needed to learn some AppleScript to help check/manage it all.? Otto

Help with an old PowerMac
开云体育I have an old PowerMac that choked on something on an external SD. It now won’t finish booting.?I recently had this problem, but somehow resolved it. I get to the gray screen with the logo, in normal startup, and in safe mode I get the addition of a spinning gear, but it never finishes booting. It had been without power for too long and the CMOS battery had died. I replaced it with an old battery that had a full charge. Thru some weird order of steps, I got it to run again, but since now it won’t boot.? It is a G4 2002 Quicksilver, overclocked and dual CPU. It had previously run stably for 10 years. Can someone here make some suggestions, or suggest a list that might help? Brent ?

Time Machine - Not connected? But on desktop
I got my wife a new Mac Mini and a hub containing an MVMe SSD that I set up as the Time Machine drive. ?This all about ten days ago. ?I checked today and found that the Time Machine is not backing up. ?In Time Machine settings it states: Next backup after disk is connected. ?However, the disk is on the desktop and also shows up in Disk Utility as Time Machine. ?I reformatted it and also ran First Aid. ?
Any idea as to how to proceed with this??
Cordially,?

Re: New Mac - Music question
Thank you so much for your help Otto. ?I went back in Time Machine and Restored the Music Library.musiclibrary from there and everything is working. ?I now have 10,081 songs, not 1,199. ?And all columns have their information in them. ?
Thanks also to Bayswater for advice in this matter. ?
You guys have a good day!

Re: New Mac - Music question
When you first used Music on your new Mac it will have created a library file if there wasn’t one already where it was expected to be. You need to find it so you can replace it with the one from the old Mac.

It might be in a place other than what I said. I’m on an old MacOS version and things have probably changed… Perhaps try EasyFind? <> Otto On 29 Apr 2025, at 13:22, Jim Willett via groups.io <jimwillett@...> wrote: |

No, that’s not what I said. Is there a *file* called

Why ruin the gloves when you could use them as they are?

I have a box of nitrile gloves. I could cut off a couple fingers from one of those gloves and see whether those are tacky enough to turn the battery cover. Thanks for the idea!

Only some of the bitterant coated batteries won't work. Per Apple, "Look for packaging that states "Compatible with Apple AirTag". Some CR2032 batteries with bitterant coatings might not work with AirTag or other battery-powered products."

Re: air tag battery change ugh11
I used the Duracell bitter coated ones and they are fine, both fit and power.

Re: air tag battery change ugh11
I think that’s only an issue with some “bitter-coated” cells, but I can only see that affecting the electrical connection, not the fit.

开云体育I just use ordinary CR2032 batteries.Work just fine. I don’t think there are special air tag ones. The problem lies in the difficulty getting the back on. To quote Long Jon Baldry, “It ain’t easy.”

Yes, I’m pretty sure that something rubbery would help. How about washing-up (dish-washing) gloves?

It would also be better if the cover clicked into place. As it is, you just have to turn it until won’t turn any further. Otto On 28 Apr 2025, at 13:44, Bev in TX via groups.io <countryone77@...> wrote: |
Re: air tag battery change ugh11
After saying that I had never done it before, last night one of my husband's AirTags notified us that its battery needed changing. I used those Apple Support directions and it was very straightforward. I had a little problem getting the battery cover back on. As you mentioned, it's slippery!

This morning I remembered that many years ago we used rubber finger tips in the office to more easily flip through piles of paper. I'm wondering whether something like that would make it easier to deal with the slippery battery cover. I might get some to try out the next time one of his AirTags needs its battery changed. It must be a 2032 cell. These are the dimensions, 20 mm diameter and 3.2 mm thickness. Also, the + side must be facing up. I find that the highly polished surface of an Air Tag makes it difficult to turn the battery cover. Otto On 27 Apr 2025, at 19:00, Sew Walker via groups.io <sewnyes@...> wrote: |
Re: New Mac - Music question
I dragged an album file from the Music folder on the external drive over to the Music app. ?The album file disappeared from the Music folder. ?The songs showed up in the Music app window, but with the Artist and Album column blank. ?So this is not satisfactory. ?Any idea why this happened??
It is also odd that when I connected the external drive containing the music files to the new mac and then opened the Music app, it showed 1,199 items, but should have been around 8,000 items. ?I wonder why they did not all show in the Music app? ??
Thank you for your advice.? |

I've never done it, but perhaps this will get the conversation going.

Did the battery's package say that it is compatible with AirTags? It's rather difficult to tell what is going wrong. If the battery is compatible, perhaps you could tell us the exact steps you used to replace the battery? On Apr 27, 2025, at 1:00?PM, Sew Walker via groups.io <sewnyes@...> wrote: --
