- what device? - what OS? - what app and library? - what exactly does the lockout message say? If you get enough lockout messages in a short enough time span, you will have to do a long recover, which can take as long as 30 days. Apple cannot help once you get to that stage. I suggest calling Apple as soon as it unlocks. Brent On my iPhone Xr On Apr 13, 2025, at 14:51, Julian Thomas <jt@...> wrote: |
Help needed reset Apple ID/system Id password
I¡¯ve done this several times and it locks almost immediately when I try a library download. Each time I go into the penalty box for longer. Someone suggested waiting a while before the download. Any other suggestions??

Re: Advice for new computer
Julian and Brent. During most of my years of computer use your suggestion is what I have done.
My currents situation and needs are different. I don¡¯t like my MacBook air that I inherited from my late wife. She bought it before retiring a few years ago and had it set up by her IT people at her school. She had a MacBook pro provided by the school district while still working. I never liked how that was set up but my wife was fine with it. I don¡¯t like the keyboard, the display and how some of the apps are configured. They set up the fleet of computers for their convenience and made it difficult to personalize. I also lack the space to accommodate a laptop and an additional monitor. I am considering moving to a smaller home and may impact my computer placement concerns. A new MacBook Pro seems to make the most sense but a much less expensive iMac is more emotionally attractive. As I sit here in my sun room/dining room I see no good place to put a large monitor or an iMac without impacting my view outside. Thanks, Bobby |
Re: Advice for new computer
I agree with Julian. I used my old 15¡± MBP with a 22¡± external monitor. Since 2010.

Re: Advice for new computer
Thanks to everyone who offered advice and suggestions.
?
please forgive my late response.
?
Bev suggested settings to change but didn¡¯t match the options on this MacBook. ?However they led me to change ¡° Show Bottom Preview¡± which when not active allows me to see a greater part of any email. So that is mostly resolved.
?
prior to that I changed the screen resolution which also helped but makes portions of some items too small for these eyes.
?
The bottom line is that I can continue to use this MacBook Air but I will probably buy a Different computer that has a larger screen.
?
once again thanks.

Re: log-in password sometimes rejected
You're giving me credit for far better typing skills than I have ever achieved, Brent!!? Two finger typing (well, actually four on a good day) is about my limit.
?
When the problem occurs, no matter how many times I enter the password, slower and slower each time, the password is refused.
?
The fact that, immediately after the restart, the password is accepted normally suggests to me that the keyboard is fine.

Re: log-in password sometimes rejected
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýErrors like this are usually not an software issue, but a inadvertent contact with the keyboard, such as a wandering finger hitting two ?keys or a cap lock where not wanted. Possibly a failing keyboard. Since Apple hides the password, it is hard to tell. First try entering the password slowly with only two fingers. Next try a different keyboard.Brent ?

Re: log-in password sometimes rejected
I was thinking that a bit of dirt can fall under a key, regardless of the keyboard's age.

Are you certain that you aren't accidentally hitting the caps lock key? Rebooting would automatically turn it off. On Apr 4, 2025, at 11:30?AM, Keith Parr via groups.io <kg.parr@...> wrote: --

Re: Daughter¡¯s new iPad says no mail
She might start by carefully comparing the Mail settings on her phone versus her iPad. If those match, I would try rebooting the iPad.

Re: log-in password sometimes rejected
I don't think the keyboard can be the issue.? When the problem occurs it does not matter how many times I try to enter the password, it is refused.? Immediately after a restart, the password works normally again.? Additionally, I'd be a bit worried if the keyboard were to be giving trouble after maybe a month from new.
?
It's worth trying clearing the caches, it's easy to do and takes little time.? It will take a while to know whether it has been a cure, however.? This has only happened twice so far, it *appears* to be random ie I have yet to identify a specific trigger, who knows when it might occur again!
?
Thanks for helping think it through Bev.

Re: log-in password sometimes rejected
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello KeithI¡¯ve not encountered that problem but wonder if you updated your computer the problem would be solved! Here¡¯s a snippet from ChatGPT:- "As of April 4, 2025, the latest version of macOS Sequoia is 15.4, released on March 31, 2025.? This update introduces Mail Categorization, which organizes incoming emails into categories such as transactions, updates, and promotions, with important emails aggregated in a primary section.? Additionally, macOS Sequoia 15.4 includes an Apple News+ Food section for subscribers, a Sketch style for Image Playground, Memory Movie support for custom slideshows in the Photos app, and new emoji characters.? To update your Mac to the latest version, go to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the instructions."?? I hope this helps. David?

log-in password sometimes rejected
This is a relatively new, bought from Apple, M3 MacBook Air 15 inch, running Sequoia 15.3.2.
?
Today, for the second time, it has refused my log-in password from the log-in screen.
?
Turning the machine off and restarting cures the problem - mercifully!
?
Has anyone else noticed this behaviour, please?
