Re: Hats / logo
That's cool.......... will we have a choice of color for the hat ? Mark On Tue, Jan 21, 2020 at 1:11 PM Alex Nelon <Alex.nelon@...> wrote:

Hats / logo
I put in an order for hats and submitted our logo design. I wasn¡¯t sure the company (Queensboro, at Wilmington NC) could replicate the logo in the space available on a hat and sure enough they couldn¡¯t. They came back with the attached and I turned it down. As a compromise, I asked if they could do the Loon and runways with the name of the group across the bottom and that might work. Colors need editing, too. They¡¯re going to revise and send and I will share with you when I get it - likely tomorrow. The hats are cheap - about $7 - and we¡¯ll have a few for newbies. On that score, please feel free to share invites with like minded folk.? Instigator Alex |
Re: Insurance
Try Falcon Insurance out of Kerrville TX via EAA. I found AOPA expensive beyond everyone else.? On Mon, Jan 20, 2020 at 5:31 PM Brian Leverson <sotatwin@...> wrote:

Re: Insurance
Alex, You're right, that's nuts.? I have only slightly over 100 hours total time, of which 65 hours is taildragger, yet my $30k hull insurance plus usual liability through Assurance via AOPA was $1030 per year. Brian On Mon, Jan 20, 2020 at 5:09 PM Alex Nelon <Alex.nelon@...> wrote:

Re: Flurries
Leo, Locate the closed Skyline Peak airport on the sectional map, about 30 miles due north of AVL.? The Wolf Ridge ski area is probably a half mile north of the closed airstrip, in the middle of the Wolf Mountain vacation development.? Look close for that ski area or you'll miss it!?? Let's hope that is the extent of 2020 snowfall!? They can keep
the snow in the Rockies and Sierras.??

By the way, a week ago Sunday, while flying over the closed Skyline Peak
runway, I caught a glimpse of what passes for a ski area in the Carolinas.?
Grim.? It didn't make me want to drag my skis out of storage.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYou¡¯re not going to get away that easy Alex. ??You stated that there was a provision or exception to the transponder requirement for non electric aircraft to enter class C with only radio contact. ? I said there was no such provision specific to non electric system aircraft And that there was a provision for all aircraft that with prior notice. However ATC can direct an aircraft to enter. But I¡¯m really a nice guy and even though I am correct I will not require you or Brian to buy me breakfast.? Darwin It¡¯s ok to have enemies, it means you stood up for something. On Jan 18, 2020, at 12:13 PM, Alex Nelon <alex.nelon@...> wrote:

Re: AVL expanded Class C airspace
Interesting. Darwin and I were both right this morning ... I can take the CallAir into Class C but I have to make a reservation with ATC .. can't fly over it, though I don't know why I would. On Sat, Jan 18, 2020 at 11:54 AM Brian Leverson <sotatwin@...> wrote:

AVL expanded Class C airspace
At breakfast this morning, I mentioned I'd asked Ricky, the AVL controller, how ADS-B Out was affecting his day-to-day operations.? He said previously their aircraft position information was restricted to primary radar echoes and Mode C transmissions, both limited by the mountains at AVL.? With the addition of ADS-B ground stations, he said ATC now receives near real time aircraft position information from ADS-B Out-equipped aircraft over a much wider area.? With this additional coverage,?there had been discussion of expanding the AVL Class C shelf to as much as 20-25 nautical miles from the current 10 nm.? I'm not aware of any current Class C airspace shelves that extend more than 10 nm, but there is an FAA proposal to grow the Fort Lauderdale (FLL) Class C shelf to 25 nm (see?).? Any change would be years away, but I'm not surprised. Brian |
