I'm fortunate to have nice paint on my '75 DO and I want to keep it that way. Can anyone point me to an article / email / post previously written about maintaining the paint? Thank you!

Tire sizes availability
14
I¡¯ve been looking for a new set of tires for my ¡®74 R90S and am having a hard time finding either a 3.25-19 or a 90/90-19 for the front. Is anyone running a 100/90-19? This seem to be the smallest metric width for many of the suitable tires. Are there any good sources for 3.25-19 or 90/90-19 that maybe I haven¡¯t checked out. 4.00-18 and 110/90-18 seem to be available from several sources. I did find a 3.25-19 BT46 online at the visor shop.com in Ireland, but nothing in stock in the US.

Anyone Own the NEW Edition of the Book "BMW R90S" by Ian Falloon?

Does anyone own the new latest edition of the book "BMW R90S" by Ian Falloon, the front cover pic is of a DO R90S. I need to verify the picture on page 68 is of my '74 R90S, it would say so. Storing a Motorcycle/Drain the Brake Master Cylinder ALSO
9
As I recall I have posted about how to put a motorcycle in long term storage (detailed in the forthcoming issue of the Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners Club magazine), here is the website: https://vintagebmw.org I have recently learned more about how to properly store a BMW which has the brake master cylinder UNDER the gas tank, such as our R90Ss. I put four R90Ss away for long term storage, some as far back as about 1988, and recently took them out of storage and had them gone over mechanically and then thoroughly cleaned as I am selling them shortly (except the one I restored which I will ride, along with several other bikes). I had properly fogged the engines, carbs, gas tank and sprayed the insides of the mufflers, so upon startup the mosquitos got fogged! After checking the timing, checking the valves and adjusting the carbs, they all started up very easily. A bore scope was inserted in the spark plug hole and the cylinder walls were in totally fine shape. And they started right up, some in as little as half an engine rotation. It was very gratifying to see that my "moth balling" efforts paid off. However one thing I failed to consider was the brake master cylinder which is under the gas tank. On one of my R90Ss the seal had failed in the master cylinder, causing brake fluid to dribble down the side of the engine case. No harm was caused, it cleaned right up, but I have seen cases where brake fluid ate into the wiring and destroyed the paint on the frame, causing a real mess. So I would drain the under tank brake master cylinder next time. Mac Kirkpatrick Glenmoore, PA "After all, what is adventure, but inconvenience, properly regarded?" C. Donahue

Clutch adjustment with EZ pull/WHY?
2
Might have oil from the trans getting on the clutch disc. Does this happen most easily in 5th gear while accelerating? Long story but I recently learned (again :-) why this happens in 5th (high) gear in a motorcycle, or in a 4X4 truck which has a choice of low and high range. see 3:36 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozEfUUzW7UY&t=360s Mac Kirkpatrick Glenmoore, PA "After all, what is adventure, but inconvenience, properly regarded?" Clutch adjustment with EZ pull
Hey All, I could use some advice on clutch adjustment on my 75 R90s. I installed an EZ puller last year and it seemed to work fine, but lately under acceleration the power disengages from the rear wheel (so it revs high and goes nowhere¡). So I first adjusted the cable length to specs (measured cable and aligned with transmission case typical), then adjusted free play nut¡. but I can¡¯t seem to get it in the sweet spot. It feels like the clutch is engaging or slipping while in gear. I was told the transmission was replaced at 92k miles by previous owner, and it now has 99k. Any advice welcome. Best, Chris Perry

Locked in 2nd gear
8
Dear Group, Out for a ride this afternoon, when going from second gear to third gear, the trans would not up shift to third nor down shift to first. There was no unusual noise or grinding. The shift lever moves up and down with a bit of a springy motion, but it¡¯s locked in 2nd. The bike can roll only by pulling the clutch lever. If someone can shoot me a diagnosis I would be appreciative. Thanks Gayle Murphy In beautiful Milwaukee, Wisconsin By the Big Pond

best R90S seat foam and cover?
3
When I was refurbing my bike I had a broken bolt or two in the seat hinge. I carefully stripped the cover and the foam off, removed the broken bolts, had the seat pan sandblasted. I then had nuts welded on the inside of the pan for the damaged threads, and reassembled with the original seat cover and foam. I should have realized that the foam had likely deteriorated in 45 years and, I assume foam technology has advanced since then. Has anyone found a more comfortable seat foam than the original that would be worth the effort to install? Failing that, any recommendations for seat gadgets such as beads or air cushions that significantly improve riding comfort for a skinny 75 y/o as$?

Charge Light?

Took the R90S out for a ride today as I¡¯ve been ignoring it for a few weeks. Red Charge light is flickering at lower RPMs and when decelerating, but steadies out higher with no light. Any concern here? As I¡¯m heading to Barber next week Thanks Bob Battery seems to be charging fine

Need Dellorto Carb body - left hand
3
One of my floats was not working correctly and I have discovered it is because there is a crack in one of the arms holding the float in place. I am not sure how this happens, but it is what it is. Bottom line is that I need to find another carb body for the left side, and am wondering whether anyone in this group either has one to sell, or has suggestions regarding where to access one. I know they still make these but the cost of a new LH carb is significant. All advice will be appreciated. Thanks, Denny 1975SS

Replacement windshield

I am looking to replace the windshield on my ¡®75 R90S. The bike is 99% original except for aluminum turn signals and an aftermarket touring windshield. My intent is to keep this bike as original as possible. With that said, is there any reason not to go with Clearview? I¡¯ve read positive comments about Clearview and the price is certainly a little easier to handle. Peter

Bob Lutz, the Father of the R90S
2
A great "biography" of Bob Lutz, see https://www.hagerty.com/media/people/bob-lutz-at-90-is-still-smarter-than-everybody-else/?utm_source=SFMC&utm_medium=email&utm_content=MED_UN_NA_EML_UN_DailyDriver_Monday&hashed_email=85c8c1eabef3786267d4e9403d9a3f707c030c8ee873fec4a96429d07d7bebe5 I got Bob Lutz to contribute to the book "BMW R90S", see page 33 of the original book; he is considered to be the Father of the R90S. What a dynamo he is. First Hans Muth did his great design work, then Bob Lutz convinced BMW to launch it to the public.
