Locked Tire sizes availability

I’ve been looking for a new set of tires for my ‘74 R90S and am having a hard time finding either a 3.25-19 or a 90/90-19 for the front. Is anyone running a 100/90-19? This seem to be the smallest metric width for many of the suitable tires.

Are there any good sources for 3.25-19 or 90/90-19 that maybe I haven’t checked out. 4.00-18 and 110/90-18 seem to be available from several sources. I did find a 3.25-19 BT46 online at the visor shop.com in Ireland, but nothing in stock in the US.

Check out the Royal Enfield suppliers, I thing some of their models use tyres in the sizes you are looking for.

I believe I've tried fitting a 100/19 on the front on my 74 r90s and it rubbed the fender bracket...went with a 90/19 Bridgestone Spitfire, but I'm not sure the Spitfire is still available?

Thanks, I thought that may be the case. I couldn’t find any 90/90-19’s available in any tire.

But, after doing some additional research I found that the Michelin Road Classic and the Bridgestone BT46 are available in the correct inch sizes through Amazon. $329 for a set of Michelins and $275 for Bridgestones.

I've found better prices with the usual online tire retailers (Revzilla, Chapmoto, J&P Cycles, etc.) than Amazon.? It's usually worth shopping around.? I also put the Michelin Classics on my R90s and like the way they feel.

Stay away from the metrics. I've run the Avon Roadriders and Michelin Pilot Activs (which I think have been replaced by the Road Classics. Like Frank, many people like the Metzlers as well.

Just put these on - can’t say enough good things about them.?

  • Front Continental RB2 (3.25-19) 54h
  • Rear Continental K112 (4.00-18) 64h?

For those (few?) that might not know, these are the original tires tires and sizes (BMW installed these, and at certain times/models, Metzelers).? These Conti's have been improved some, and make nice over-all street tires.?? Unfortunately for me, I stopped my ever-so-formal testing of tires before I had gotten around to do such testing.

? contains a lot of comments on tires, riding, pressures, performance, etc., followed by specifically named tires, and testing results.

The only issue I had with the RB2 was rain grooves and bridge gratings

Regarding your statement -------- These are the originals that came on most /6 bikes------- mmmmmm, this might not be exactly true. There’s a possibility that some /6’s might have come out with Continentals but definitely not the RB2/K112 combination. /6 BMW came out with Metzler.

?

The RB2/K112 came out in mid1980. This combination set were shipped over to Australia for tyre testing. 1 sets were given to 6 Australian states to be tested over different terrain under harsh Australian conditions. I was one of the testers and covered 10,000km (6,000 miles) in 6 weeks on my R90S. Apart from ticking so many boxes in a questionnaire I submitted a rather comprehensive report detailing different tyre pressures on sealed and unsealed roads. Touring and racing (I couldn’t help it) weather conditions plus city and country riding. (I never thought of keeping a copy)

?

Mr Frank Hodder of Continental Distributors (Australia) received a telegram from Klaus Rempel of Continental Korbach which was then passed on to me.

Copy attached

That's?great Frank!
I'd hope that if you take that telegram with you when you buy tyres you'll get a good discount on Continentals.
