¶Ù³ú¾±±ð°ù?²â¨½²õ³ú³¦³ú²â³ú²Ô²¹ was a Polish Autonomous District in , near and close to the Soviet-Polish border of the time. It was created on March 15, 1932, with its capital at (, Dzerzhynsk, formerly known as Kojdanava : °­´ÇÂá»å²¹²Ô¨®·É). It was named after the . ?Similarly to Marchlewszczyzna, limited Polish autonomy in the area was a real fact, with Polish-language schools, libraries and institutions. At the same time, the inhabitants were subject to intensive communist propaganda. Religious life was suppressed, and the campaign of collecivization, carried out in mid-1930s, met resistance of local Polish peasants.

Unlike Marchlewszczyzna, which was the real center of Polish cultural life in the Soviet Union, ¶Ù³ú¾±±ð°ù?²â¨½²õ³ú³¦³ú²â³ú²Ô²¹'s influence was limited with Marchlewsczyzna disbanded 1935 - in Wolyn as experimental Autonomous District (the area of my mother¡¯s village of Niwna), during the first wave of repression .? Both failed and the participants were liquidated or put to work on collective farms or used as other means of State labour force.

Polish districts were among those which resisted Soviet and . For political reasons, drastic measures were initially not applied in these areas. Eventually, Marchlewszczyzna was disbanded in 1935 at the onset of the and most of the administration was executed. In the following years, many men were shot (some sources, such as Russian organization put the number of the murdered Poles at 111,091), women and children deported to and other remote areas of the Soviet Union. More than 50,000 Poles were executed in places like or , many others were executed or starved in Kazakhstan. ¶Ù³ú¾±±ð°ù?²â¨½²õ³ú³¦³ú²â³ú²Ô²¹ existed three years longer; it was disbanded in 1938. According to Polish sources, up to 70,000 Poles from Soviet Ukraine were forcibly resettled in Kazakhstan in late 1930s. Also, around 20 000 Poles were then deported from Soviet Belarus.All Polish schools and libraries were closed, Tomasz D?bal was executed in 1938.

Barbara, every house with a person of Polish heritage living in it, ?should have a special corner, a museum, items that are passed from generation to generation, not as antiques but icons to be treasured and remind us of who we are.? I like your fathers logic, he had the same intense passion, ?love of Poland, seeing Pilsudski would have been so special to him, understood her suffering and pain, the hardship that won the quest for a free Poland, no matter how brief going by history and our fate, as all of us have ?and ?it flows through you.

Thanks to our peoples spirit, Poland is free again and will stay free, but we must never forget the cruelty, the brutality, the attempted liquidation, extermination of the Polish people and those who perpetrated this crime, especially those of the Kresy, as these loved ones lost are our heroes and I am sure they are guiding us right now.

Andrew, I found this history back in 2008, but because there was little or no material back then, it was very difficult for people to believe my mother¡¯s story as not many people escaped from this region and the fear of soviets was overwhelming, so those who did escape never spoke.? I harassed my mother into telling me her story and this started my research and she tried to prevent me, but something inside told me I must do this, I must find who I am and where I come from.

Also as with all older people, we have to sift through what is fantasy and what is reality.?? This can only be done if you have proof to back it up and so far, my mother¡¯s stories of her childhood, which sounded like some man from mars story, is all slowly being verified each day, each year when more material is uploaded into the great Cyber reference book.?

Did you know that this type of material is banned in the Ukraine and it is on the forbidden list as material detrimental to the state?? Therefore the people in Ukraine, including my aunts and their families, do not know the real history, only parts of their own life that they have retained in memory, if any, as they were all very young, under the age of 11 back then and easily retrained.

In my last conversation with family in Ukraine, they have restored and built new churches, which have Mass in Catholic and Orthodox, Polish and Ukrainian and Russian and all can go to any of these churches, with mass even said in the English Language and the Polish Government has given a subsidy on top of local collections to build Polish Schools and teach the children of people, who are of Polish heritage and are allowed to be so, in today¡¯s more open climate of society.
