Moderator Liability - Can An Angry Member Sue Us?
My co-moderators and I have a member who threatens to sue if we?don't post his submissions. We wouldn't be vulnerable to any such suit would we? Of course these aren't important matters -- a bike lane. It's a neighborhood listserv:?Dupont Forum. (I did a search on the site and tried to read the TOS.)

Are the digests the same for all digest subscribers, or is each digest subscriber on an individualized cycle?
I have been trying to figure out the answer to this question since I moved my group from Yahoogroups over to Groups.io. Does each digest subscriber get an email with 12 messages starting with the first 12 after that person signs up for digest - or does the cycle get coordinated with other digest subscribers, so that everyone gets the same 12 messages in a digest?
I thought all I needed to do was to create a few test subscriptions in digest mode and that would quickly tell me whether the digests were in sync for different subscribers. But it's been confusing. Most of the time the digests are the same. But they do diverge from time to time, and sometimes there are "short" digests of less than 12 messages. I wish I understood what triggered that, as well. Also, I maintain test subscriptions in both "full digest" and "plain text" mode. The reason I'd like to know this is that when posting a really important message, I would like to time it so that it will be first in the digest. When we were over at Yahoogroups, we learned very quickly that the first message in the digest got much more attention -- and a better response rate from members (if, for example, it contained a link to a survey that we wanted people to click on) than the same message in the middle or end of the digest. But at Yahoogroups, everyone got the same digest with 15 messages in the same order. It doesn't seem to work that way at Groups.io.....but I would really like to be sure, and would like more information in general about the algorithm that produces the digest, whether in full-featured version or plain text format. Thanks for any definitive info! -Peggy Robin |

Re: Transferring Owner to Moderator
Ref, a path to help for orphaned groups
1. Start your own group 2. Post to the old group that it is being discontinued due to lack of an owner. Tell them how to join the new group. 3.If they are interested they will respond, if they are not interested they will not respond.? 4. "Priceless" archives can be cut and pasted. Am I missing something? I think what we have is a specific solution looking for a problem. There are other possible solutions. Ullmang |

I used to use plain text for messages until I realized it doesn't really make any difference on most groups.? If the group is 'plain text only', you can only compose a plain text message online and any emailed in will be converted.? The unfortunate part here is that an orphan group can't be a paid group
since nobody has the rights to pay. The current way still doesn't give this group a path for help. That would seem to leave them stuck with no option forward. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.org www.syracusemodelrr.org |

why are membership applicants called "member" before even admitted?
This is the case in my groups before an applicant even has confirmed his/her email-address....
