The first question that needs answered is: Are you a Premium or Legacy Group? Excerpted: Note:?The Direct Add feature?is available only in paid Premium and Enterprise groups. It is not available in free Premium 30-day trial groups or in Free groups. For further on this: /helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/managing-member-notices/direct-add-notice

?

If you meet the requirements to use the Direct Add feature then follow this link to the details of how it works.

?

The Users and Owners Manuals have lots of these answers.

Re: Group description cannot be changed

Easy to do! Go to Admin, Settings. You will see Group Title, Email address, and then Group Description.
?
After editing, scroll down to Update Group.
?
Try not to put too much on your homepage. Use a Guidelines Notice instead for details for your membership.
Make your group description a useful way for people to find your group or understand the intent and scope of the group.
?
You can look at the finished page and then adjust if you wish. You can use editing tools, like colour, bolding, fonts, font size.?

The Daily Summary contains only links to new topics. Clicking those links should get you right in, if you're already logged in.
?
I have changed my settings so that my log info is saved however, a prompt still pops up and I still have to click in the email field and then click autofill, before I can access any individual messages in the summary list.
If you're not already logged in, this sounds like normal behavior.

My Safari browser Block All Cookies is toggled off as another possible cause listed in the things to check guidance.
The login is saved as a cookie. I'm not familiar with Safari, but disabling "block all cookies" may not be not sufficient. She may have to enable cookies for the groups.io site, or at least quit deleting them every time she closes the browser. A third-party browser extension - or using incognito browsing modes - may also be at work here.
?
As Malcolm said, the most disconcerting thing is that the "ico" group here in groups.io is totally inactive, so she wouldn't be receiving any daily summary. I cannot find any group named icogroup or icogroups. There is one at LinkedIn but I suspect that isn't it, either.
?
Lacking further information, this is the best I can do.?
?
Good luck,
Bruce

Re: A user needs advice on how to stop having to sign in on her iPhone to read emails

No fix, just an observation or two -

There is an "ico" group but that has only 2 members and has never had any traffic (created 2020 and public archive is still empty).

Also the quoted error message explicitly refer to "email list" which implies it is NOT from groups.io but elsewhere - possibly the "ICO volunteers site" (see https://www.icorafting.org/main/guide-information/online-resources) which uses Yahoo Groups.

bah humbug, Malcolm.

? If none of the above work, the email list might have specific security settings requiring frequent re-authentication on mobile devices. Reach out to their support team to see if they can adjust settings for your account.

I wondered if this could be the cause since I changed the way I receive the messages? I know you are a very busy lady but I would be so grateful if you could please check for me as it is a little frustrating.

Many thanks,

File edit permissions question

Hi group managers,
?
I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to change file access permissions without changing a members role. Our issue is that we would like everyone in our group to have full access (edit, delete, etc) to any file stored in our group, but we don't want to make everyone admins to do that since we still want to keep our administration for the rest of the group to a core group of folks. Looking at file settings there aren't many options, so I'm guessing this isn't possible, but figured I'd ask here to see if there might be a good workaround.
?
Thanks!

For a group used by a Board or committee, you can delete old messages if they are no longer necessary.
And you can download the message archive for future reference.?
?
It would be useful to be available to move the message archive to a subgroup where you can restrict the access. However that is not possible at this point.

Thx for that in-depth treatise! ?I didn't expect that Mark had ¡°personalized¡± the badge/new msg count experience. ?
?
I did some testing and the badge/count isn't related to messages actually emailed by g.io/received by members ¡ª the counter is related to only messages posted (even if they are not sent back out to members.)
?
Andy
?
You solved my mistemembering ¡ª I was thinking of seeing counters, but it was on the Groups page (my default is the Feed page.)

Do you/Bruce see any reason why the same counter/dots on the Groups and Topics pages, couldn't simarily be placed on the Feed page?

I will put that question/#suggestion on Beta. ?
Anyone wanting to see that happen please give it some bumps!
