Re: Bouncing emails.
Terri,
I sent the probe, I'd like to be able to email the newer members butYou can, right from the Bouncing list. Though if the bounce reason for a given address indicates a permanent issue (address is "disabled", or "not found" or similar) the attempt may be futile. For a batch of members, put checkmarks on their row in the list, then in the Actions menu select "Send Message". That will open a message composition page. The From address is a drop-list, the default is to send from the group's +owner address but you can send from your own address instead. One caveat, as Jonathan noted, is that the address may be bouncing because the receiving service doesn't like Groups.io (finds it on a blacklist or whatever), and may block this type of message as well. In some cases sending it from the +owner address might have a better chance of getting through because the message will be both From and delivered by Groups.io - which some services treat as "more authentic" than a message with mismatched From address and delivery service. However, I am puzzled when you say "her membership record". Do you mean she gave you here password and you logged in as her? If so, you could change it through Account. But the member needs to click on a link in her email to confirm the change. Hoping someone else with Premium can chime in! Frances ? -- Moving to Groups.io (without easy transfer)

Re: problem with .rr
Coincidentally, I JUST got the bouncing message and had to unbounce.? It¡¯s the stupid Road Runner email account doing this.
I also have a Rail Passenger Association account (paid membership) and that keeps cancelling my membership and that is directly related to the road runner (.rr) mail account.
?
I am trying to shift everything off that account and use a different? email server.

The only way to avoid it is for the member to use another email service that doesn't do it.? GIO is still 'small' compared to Google and Yahoo, but as it grows and its reputation becomes better known, these interruptions should become more limited. Re: Can group owner change a members email-address?
I am picking up this thread fro August last year as I now find I have a member with a non-functioning email address (yahoo.com!). I am an owner of a premium group and I understand from this message thread that I should have the ability to change this member's email address. I have her permission to do so. From what she has told me she has never accessed the groups.io website so has probably never set up a password.
I have got her membership record on screen and replaced her yahoo.com email address with her preferred one. When I click Save, the yahoo.com email address reappears with a message in red saying the email address is not valid. What am I doing wrong/what is the solution please? Thanks for your help Margaret P |

Login settings page for account
On the Login settings page for account, I have my original entry for my email with password but also, in the Social Logins section there are check boxes for:
¡õ?Allow Facebook Login
¡õ?Allow Google Login
¡õ?Allow Single Sign On Login Check boxes usually indicate multiple options can be checked, however when I tried to add Google Login it wouldn't let me. Usually choosing Google Login takes me to a "Pick Google Account" window. I would have assumed that having both my email and Google accounts checked would allow me to access my content using either sign-in method, merging the accounts. What am I missing? |
Re: Bouncing emails.
If they are marked with a red B then Groups.io has given up on trying to reach them. You can manually send further bounce probes of course, but at this point I usually send an email directly to the address from my personal address (just in case the problem is with messages coming from Groups.io). If that bounces then I remove the address from the list.

It was my experience, and I think many people found this as well, that a new list transferred from Yahoo will lose around 10% of the subscribers in the first few months. Most of these are addresses that have been bouncing for a long time, but Yahoo failed to notice. Also, a few people who are no longer interested will take this opportunity to unsubscribe. Also, if you want to whole email address to show up in the Message, you need to replace the @ symbol with something like _AT_ otherwise Groups.io will truncate the address off and just leave the name.Or change the setting for your group so that it doesn't Hide Email Addresses in Archives. All of my bouncing members with one exception are yahoo email.? I doubt the problem is with yahoo, don't you?The predominance of Yahoo being your "bouncing members" provider may be no more than the reflection of the fact that Yahoo is a major supplier of email addresses and if you look a bit further you might find that your non - bouncing members are mainly Yahoo as well. To get a better picture you will need to look at the Email Delivery History of each individual bouncing member to find out why it is bouncing and when it started.? IME the commonest reason is This mailbox is disabled or something similar; the people concerned may have changed their mail service provider or be no longer be with us. By looking at how long they have been bouncing, and by looking at each individual's Activity History you can see when they last posted something on your group. On the basis of that information you can make a balanced decision on whether or not to delete them from your membership list. As a general guide you should leave any "Blue Bounces" in place as they might come back to life at some point, but "Red Bounces" are fair game for deletion. It can be a bit time consuming but occasional general housekeeping is all part of being an Owner or Moderator; to use a clich¨¦ "it goes with the territory". Chris |
