Groups.io navigation (was Calendar time problem)

WRB,

To get to the screen your link showed, I have to click the username
for MY account. ...
If I THEN go to the menu on the LEFT, just under ¡°Login¡± is
¡°±Ê°ù±ð´Ú±ð°ù±ð²Ô³¦±ð²õ¡±.
More broadly, in Groups.io the content of the navigation pane on the left is based on where you are in the site.

If you are looking at a Group's pages then the links there are specific to that group, and may differ depending on the settings of that group and your Role there (Member, Mod, or Owner).

As you've now seen there are a different set of pages associated with your Account.

If you click on the Groups.io logo in the upper left of any page you'll find another set of pages, relating to all of your group subscriptions collectively.

Of course. I was responding to what was posted here, by I presume someone who hasn't seen this suggested / discussed before.

I have posted about this before, but the way I suggested it had some people reacting as if they would lose something if it was instituted.
That certainly wasn't my intent, but some of the name changes I suggested along with it to existing features to be more IMO accurate and intuitive, it seemed to come across as 'change is a threat'...

So along with waiting till after the YahooGroups Migration and Mark's not over yet vacation, I've been respecting the suspension of feature suggestions on beta, plus now that Canny may have made beta second class...

I will suggest it again on beta, although I believe a "Absentee Owner Succession" feature perhaps should have a greater priority.

There is a perfectly simple workaround for this; the Pending Subscription message that the group I moderate uses it clearly states that if you don't reply you won't get in.

And we mean it.

Re: Bouncing emails. [and unsubscribed for marking as spam]

I know this is about bounced email addresses but I've noticed that the
close to dozen or more auto-unsubscribes for "marking a message as
spam" have been Yahoo addresses. Members claim they didn't mark any as
spam. Yahoo's spam folder also reportedly doesn't learn when marking a
message as not spam.

I suspect they have a general problem with their email system and
bouncing is one of those problems, with the marking as spam another
one. And they want me to get Yahoo's premium email! :-)

As Frances said, you have your own account time zone, The calendar also has it's own time zone - look at the lower right of the calendar page.? If you set it for the correct calendar zone and the correct time, it will change (correctly) for those, if any, in another zone.

Re: Candidate members [ideas for a better mechanism]

I am looking a way to oblige candidate members to fill up and answer few questions before coming new members. Do you have a trick to do?.
Groups.io currently does not have a satisfactory and intuitive way to handle 'candidate members' who apply to join a Restricted Group which requires the applicant to answer questions before they are considered for approval. Awkward workarounds have been contrived, but all suffer from having the 'cart before the horse'.

There is a "Pending Subscription" Member Notice feature, but it really only sends additional information to the applicant.
My Groups do use it to send questions that are asked to be responded to, with the Subject changed to: Additional Information Require to Join <Group Name>.
Some Groups do use it to send a link a off-Groups.io form and ask that it be filled out, e.g. a Google form, however we ought to be able to vet applicants within Groups.io (rather than promote Google or some other entity)...

Unfortunately, there is no automated feature that delays starting the 14 day application expiration clock and instead sends a "Subscription Application Made" notice to the GroupOwner; and when the applicant replies to the "Pending Subscription" Member Notice, then the 14 clock would start and the "Subscription Approval Needed" notice be sent to the GroupOwner.

Most applicants new to Groups.io (that I have asked) seem to believe that since they replied to the Groups.io Account Confirmation email, that there is no need to also respond to a Pending Subscription notice and their application expires after 14 days unless a Moderator (with Member Approval permission) or an Owner has claimed their subscription request. The result is frustration for the applicant and the Group.

It would also help if the Groups.io Account Confirmation email fully detailed:
1) a Reply to Groups.io Account Confirmation email only confirms that they are able to receive emails from Groups.io
2) It should also explain about 'being removed for marking Groups.io emails as SPAM' and the restoration process
3) that Restricted Groups also require approval from that Group's Owner or Moderator.
4) (if there is an active "Pending Subscription" Member Notice) that another email entitled <"Pending Subscription" Member Notice' Subject> will give further instructions.

A better 'Question Applicants to Restricted Groups for Approval' process has been requested before.
My hope is that will happen in 2020, now that the YahooGroups Mass Migration is over.

Re: Bouncing emails.

Terri,

I sent the probe, I'd like to be able to email the newer members but
it looks like I can't do that.
You can, right from the Bouncing list. Though if the bounce reason for a given address indicates a permanent issue (address is "disabled", or "not found" or similar) the attempt may be futile.

For a batch of members, put checkmarks on their row in the list, then in the Actions menu select "Send Message".

That will open a message composition page. The From address is a drop-list, the default is to send from the group's +owner address but you can send from your own address instead.

One caveat, as Jonathan noted, is that the address may be bouncing because the receiving service doesn't like Groups.io (finds it on a blacklist or whatever), and may block this type of message as well.

In some cases sending it from the +owner address might have a better chance of getting through because the message will be both From and delivered by Groups.io - which some services treat as "more authentic" than a message with mismatched From address and delivery service.

I have got her membership record on screen and replaced her yahoo.com email address with her preferred one. When I click Save, the yahoo.com email address reappears with a message in red saying the email address is not valid.
Margaret,

I can't tell you exactly because I don't have access to a premium account.

However, I am puzzled when you say "her membership record". Do you mean she gave you here password and you logged in as her? If so, you could change it through Account. But the member needs to click on a link in her email to confirm the change.

Hoping someone else with Premium can chime in!
