Re: Group Settings - Only Moderators Can Post?

But, on the Home Page, where the settings are displayed, the first entry, with a symbol that looks like a megaphone, it says, "Only moderators can post messages." ?I have been unable to change a setting that makes that go away??
To change this, go to Admin, Settings. In Spam Control, make sure that Announcement Group isn't ticked.
Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page and update to save.

That is, I assume, a statement rather than a question.

Go to Admin > Settings and scroll down to Spam Control. Verify that Announcement Group is not checked.

Re: Retrieve existing transfer page? #transfer

Shal, could it be this?

Also, that happened to me and it was because the page URL had been changed. The new one is groups.io/yahootransfer. Scroll down to box on right and click your transfer name.

Erika,

My transfer page that was to update with the notification that the
invite had been accepted suddenly disappeared.
This most likely means that you are now logged in using a different email address than the one you used when setting up the transfer.

The transfer control and status mechanism is tied to the account (email address) of the person who initiated it.

Group Settings - Only Moderators Can Post?

I have just opened a new, private group. ?I have carefully set the group settings. ?But, on the Home Page, where the settings are displayed, the first entry, with a symbol that looks like a megaphone, it says, "Only moderators can post messages." ?I have been unable to change a setting that makes that go away??

I agree that is the best method with the way the system works. There is at least one group where I am a lurking member and don¡¯t want to draw attention to myself. It is easy in the groups I own as I can add myself as many times as I want to with other email addresses and choose which one to use for the mail and set the others to No Email.

I have two groups.io email addresses. I use two different browsers so I don't have to login and out when switching between addresses.

That is a very good idea and I like it. I have a few browsers on my PC but I rarely use it now. I have only had this Mac for a few weeks and I am still using Safari as my only browser. I will have to add some more.

Re: Mute & Following for Email-Only members #email

You are right - muting does take you to the website. You need to confirm the muting.
Minimal interaction with the website though. I attach screenshots.
However you couldn't unmute easily without going to the website.

Email commands to change your subscription, but it doesn't do Advanced Preferences -?
To receive plain digests instead of individual messages
To receive full featured digests instead of individual messages
To receive a daily summary instead of individual messages
To receive individual messages instead of digests or a summary
To only receive special messages

If you think most of your members will want to set their subscriptions to Advanced Preferences, you might set that as Default Subscription Preferences - in Admin, Settings, second tab. But then?you?would?have to "follow" messages that interest you.?Clicking on that link brings you to the web.

Copying and pasting the link did the trick that refresh didn't and made the "view existing transfer status" link visible. That's helpful advice, thank you!

Winnie -- On further examination, I think I have a better understanding of what you could be talking about.

The country field in the address edit block is a pull-down menu. You cannot type in a country here, you have to select it from the menu. If you later go back to change a previously entered address, the country does not display in the edit window; but it is still there, hidden behind the pull-down. It has not "disappeared," and there is no need to re-enter it.

At least that's the way things behave on this end. If I'm totally off base please let me (and the support address) know, because that would be an actual bug. If this behavior bothers you and you do not need Map View for anything my previous suggestion of changing the data type still applies.?

There are two of us in that management loop, but I checked with the other guy and he had not even been in the system.
Bill -- It's not necessary to enter the system to approve an application. All you have to do is reply to the notification message, which is easy to do without realizing it.

Open that user's record in the Member List and click the Activity History button at the top of the page. That will tell you what really happened.

Lynne; I am going to approach your query on the basis of a strict interpretation of what you asked. You referred to resize photos in photo section, and it has to be pointed out that changing the "resize" settings for photo uploads has no impact on the size of photos that have already been uploaded. They remain occupying exactly the same amount of storage as they did before the change was made.

There is a way around this, which while not difficult is very time consuming to do properly. To resize an existing overlarge photo it has to be downloaded, and then uploaded again with the new resizing setting. The catch is that in so doing the original attribution of the photo to whoever originally uploaded it is lost and it becomes attributed to whoever downloaded and then uploaded it again; it is possible to reassign it to its originator but that is the stage that can be extremely time - consuming and tedious.

Unless I have missed something (never impossible!) other respondents have provided answers that are correct for new uploads but did not address the issue of existing material.

Mute & Following for Email-Only members #email

What Mute/Follow features are available to email-only members (i.e. those w/o website access)?

It seems there is little or no control for?Email-only members?because:
1)???I have not found email commands for Adv. Preferences: i.e. ¡°Follow Only¡± or ¡°First Message Also¡±
2)???The wiki page on Muting & Following says: ¡°The (footer) links (for mute or follow) take you to the Groups.io web site to confirm or cancel the action." ?This implies?website?access is required.

I'm preparing to move a private YahooGroup where half the members only use email, don't have web access.

Thanks. I will check up on the option of using another address for posting messages. It might help.

The main downside to all that is what you have encountered. Frankly, trying to use more than one email address here can be quite inconvenient. After a few times of finding yourself unable to access group content because you're logged in under the wrong address, I suspect you will end up merging these accounts again.

You are probably right about that. My real problem is increasing age and probably senility which I why I don¡¯t adapt to new systems as easily as I used to.

Winnie -- I am not able to replicate this behavior, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening.

This may be an artifact of the way groups.io interacts with Google Maps. Is your group on the Premium or Basic plan??Does the problem occur if you remain in List View??

Unless you really need map view for something, you might have more success defining that column as type "Single Line Text" instead of Address. Or you could try splitting out the Country into a separate column.

I hope something in there helps.

The problem is probably that I was used to being able to do that easily in the Yahoo Groups so I was hoping to be able to do the same here.
In groups.io, your email address IS your account identifier.

One advantage of doing it that way is you don't need to set up a separate account identifer/user ID within groups.io -- if you have an email address, you already have one. It also allows groups.io to do the "email me a link to log in" thing if you don't want to (or simply never get around to) setting up a password.
