You cannot.

Mostly it remembers the view you used last, but the Your Groups page has a
hard-wired switch to Topics view. Use the Your Group drop-list instead.

As Leeni said all the answers are NO.
So I changed the setting to the first selection, Use Group Moderation setting.
I do not know the difference between the first two choices.

Re: renamed my main group, now I cant get to it, or sub-group via drop-down "Your Groups", top left #groupname

I think I did the same thing -- renamed my group.? And now I can't access it under either name.? Hoping you're right and it will come back tomorrow after admin approves the name change.??

But the weird thing is that my yahoo calendar and iCal on iPhone are still showing me the group's calendar entries (though the times are off on full-day entries).? So that gives me hope that the group will come back.

My all day calendar entries are showing up on other platforms as 10am the day before, carrying over into 10am the correct day.? Both when displayed into yahoo calendar and iCal on iPhone.? All are set to EST time zone.? The repeating entries that are specific times (i.e., 9am-3pm) are showing correctly in both places.? Only the all-day entries are off.

On the groups.io site they look fine, as full day (repeating) calendar entries.

Re: GIO hack? #issue #pirate

Ken,

I think his email account was hacked, or his contact list accessed and
his sender address/account spoofed.
Either seems likely. Though if his contact list was accessed that implies they compromised his email account to get it.

His account shows the original mal-mail msg was posted via email, not
via the web GUI.
Which is consistent with the above.

Naturally, we don't have access to the original email (*OR DO WE???*)
You sort of do. See below.

*Q1. Is there a way someone can hack a members info to send mal-mail
thru GIO?
If someone gained access to his GIO account they would send the mal-mail via the Groups.io Web Poster. Which would limit them to sending the mal-mail to the group, or replying to another member.

There is no way for them to use access to his GIO account to get into his email account. If they got into both that could be because he foolishly used the same password for both.

*Q2. Looking at the 2 e-dresses -- am I in effect looking at two
different users/accounts - that just happens to be the same person?
Correct. From Groups.io's point of view two different subscribed email addresses are registered as different accounts, notwithstanding that the same human might log into both of them.

*Q3. Is there a way to get to the original posted email to try to
track down who and how it came to GIO and members?
If the message is in the group's Messages still, a mod/owner can access the View Source item in the More menu to get the full header. That includes the original message's header, with only a few extra fields added by Groups.io at the top.

If any member has it in their email interface they should be able to access the full header there. That will have a bunch of stuff relating to the message's journey from Groups.io to their interface at the top, but further down it will still include the records of the message's journey from the origin to Groups.io, with Received fields converted to X-Received. That should tell the story too.

changing message settings

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I¡¯ve just got a new computer and am having trouble getting a message setting to stick.

I prefer it have it set as ¡°Messages¡±, not ¡°Topics¡±, yet every few days I find that it has reverted to ¡°Topics¡±.

How can I make ¡°Messages¡± the default and have it stay that?

Thanks

I have a member who "sent" one of those ("read the attached" type) mal-mails.?
I think his email account was hacked, or his contact list accessed and his sender address/account spoofed.
He thinks it was a hack of GIO (his account info) and whoever then sent the mal-mail to the group.

His account shows the original mal-mail msg was posted via email, not via the web GUI.?
Naturally, we don't have access to the original email (OR DO WE???) so that I could look at the header info.
Unrelated - He shows up 2x under members with 2 different addresses (*@infowest and *@gmail.)

*Q1. Is there a way someone can hack a members info to send mal-mail thru GIO?
*Q2. Looking at the 2 e-dresses -- am I in effect looking at two different users/accounts - that just happens to be the same person?

ANY other thing I haven't thought of to sort this out?

Thx

Re: Issue regarding merging of 2 accounts and owner status

Hi All,

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately, the other person I thought I had set up as an admin couldnt (when they set up an account just now) do anything so I cant have saved the setting when I set them up. Before contacting support.io I thought I would just try to log in under the account I thought that was deleted after combining the two...that account was still active so I was able to log back in using those credentials and make my second account an owner and also making the other person an owner and have checked to make sure I saved the options ..so looks like all OK. Thanks for helping out.

John

Caused by your email provider, but you check it at Groups.io:
  • Are his messages listed as Bounced in the Email Delivery History tab of your group Subscription page?

John -- As Duane stated, your only option at this point is to ask your co-owner to promote you back to owner. This is done by having him open your subscriber record (Admin>Members) and change the Role field using the pull-down menu. Be sure he clicks on the Save button at the bottom of the page when done.

In the [unlikely] event that you don't have a member record, you're going to have to re-subscribe to the group first.

If this situation should arise again, be careful to merge your accounts the other way (i.e.: into the email address that owns your group).

Looking at the members of one of my groups I notice a few have the notation nc by them indicating not confirmed.? OK so just what does that mean?
Those who are new to groups.io (i.e.: new accounts) have to respond to a "confirmation message" sent to their email address to ensure they actually want to receive groups.io emails and that the address they provided is correct. They?must?click on the link in that email to begin to receive any groups.io messages.

You can resend the confirmation email to those in NC status by reopening their subscriber record and clicking the "Send confirmation email" button at the bottom of the page.?Of course, if that message lands in their spam/junk email folder -- or the subscriber we're talking about is uber-conservative about clicking on links -- the whole thing becomes problematical.

See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Status-Badges-in-the-Members-List?and?/static/help#confirmemail?for details.?

Hope this helps,

Re: A member has found a way to not copy me, Owner

Edited

Richard,

?
A troublesome member, ex moderated but now not moderated is posting messages that I do not get via my e-mail.
?
There is nothing that he can have done to prevent Groups.io from sending his messages to you along with all other members. Nor is there any setting that you (or another group owner) can have applied to his subscription that would cause that.
?
So the quest is to figure out what actually is happening. Here are some things to check:
?
On the Groups.io side:
  • Do his posts contain a hashtag that has the No Email property?
  • Do his posts contain a hashtag that you have muted?
  • Is he posting to a Topic that you have muted?
  • Is your Email Delivery set to Individual Messages?
  • Is your Message Selection (under Advanced Preferences) set to All Messages?
  • Are his messages listed as Bounced in the Email Delivery History tab of your group Subscription page?
?
On your email interface:
  • Have you set a filter that blocks or redirects his address
  • Are his messages in your Spam (or Trash or other junk) folder?
?
I think that covers nearly all of the ways that his messages might not be delivered to your email Inbox when they are posted to the group's Messages section.

Re: A member has found a way to not copy me, Owner

Leeni

I have just had a similar experience.
While I was waiting for mail to load into my Incredimail email program, I decided to check a group that I belong to message page. Now the owner of that group had sent a few messages which I was able to read from the messages on the web page. However, I never received that mail in my inbox. I did receive mail?from members who sent before and after those messages so I know my settings are correct. ?Leeni

Ray -- If you want to disable a posting override, click the top radio button in the Posting Privileges section of his user record ("use group moderation setting"). Doing so should remove the "P" badge.

This doesn't, however, explain why you aren't receiving his posts. Did you check your own Email Delivery History as Duane suggested?

Hope this helps,

Re: A member has found a way to not copy me, Owner

I get every other member post sent to my e-mail.
But not his.
In the Member list there is a "P" after his name.
It says, "can Post".
When I un-moderated him it appears that I checked the wrong box in posting.
What box should I have checked?
I don't know what the definition of each thing is.
Thanks,
Richard
