I don't recognize you from Y!GMF, if you'd like some advice in trying to get your new address connected to your group contact us over there.

Be cautious with anyone asking for money. There are a lot of scam outfits out there pretending to be Yahoo Customer Care.
On the other hand there is a relatively new Yahoo! Account Pro service, which is paid, but given that your primary concern is a access to a Yahoo Group they probably won't know how to do that.

If you can still sign in to your Yahoo Account, the one that owns the Yahoo Group, then you can do what you need without email access. The key is being able to sign in using your original Yahoo account ID and password. Where the sign-in page says to enter your email address it means the yahoo.com address associated with your Yahoo account.

As long as he can invite someone (the transfer address) to join the group, and then promote that new member to moderator status, then yes. He could do the Yahoo tasks for your group.
It is the privilege to promote a member to moderator that you might not have given him as a moderator. Many owners are hesitant to give out that privilege as it is effectively all-powerful, second only to being an owner.

> He could become a co-owner of the new group.
That would allow him to do the Groups.io side of the transfer, which is probably the simplest way to handle it.
If you're leery about promoting him to owner you could take the steps on the Groups.io side and he could (in coordination with you) take the required steps on the Yahoo side.

Hi Shal.

Just a quick update - I have managed to obtain access to this yahoo group which I have owned for 18 years again! I managed this by hitting a button that changed all my (4) group passwords to a common one. This worked, and was a real relief. I now have what looks like full access to that group.

Next week I'm going to be fitted for some hearing aids (I'm 80) and once I have settled in with those, I'll come back to you for assistance which you kindly offered for the group shift to io.

Editing Topics Subjects with ''Hidden Hashtags''

Marcio

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi,
Yesterday, I created a poll on my group.
I've deleted this poll today and made a new post with the results.
However, a group member answered to the poll topic and obviously the topic with the #poll hashtag was recreated.
Thinking that it could solve the problem I merged the new topic into the one that the user had replied to.
Now, I have indeed only one topic, but every reply to this topic is coming with the "#poll" attached at the end of the subject.
The worst part is that editing the subject I can't see the "#poll" part so that I can remove it.
So, how could I remove it from the subject once and for all?

Thanks a lot and? sorry if this doesn't make sense at first glance.

Cheers,

There are probably web sites for that sort of thing.? You may also be able to post to local sites for crafters.? You can use the code under the Promote section of the group or just a link to the group home page.? I've found that word of mouth is the most reliable method.

Yes.

As an aside, that would mean that "owner", "subscribe", and other "commands" are reserved names and cannot be used for subgroup names.
This would also seem to be correct. I just attempted to create an "owner" and a "subscribe" subgroup to my test group, and both times I got a "That address is not valid" error.

I'm considering creating an initial subgroup and I don't want to change the way current subscribers interact with the group.

Re: Calendar not consistently sending reminders #cal-reminder

Gayle,

I did not have a #Events so I created one.?

I'm not sure why you did, but it should be harmless. Note that the messages generated by calendar events all carry a default hashtag. Those are #cal-invite, #cal-notice, and #cal-reminder.

I noticed the calendar entries (birthdays, anniversaries, meetings, etc) are all "events".? Could this be the missing link?

I'm not certain what you mean. Whatever purpose you use it for, every entry in the calendar goes by the generic term "event". I think that's just shorter than saying "calendar entry" to refer to them.

Normally the hashtags (either automatic, or placed by you in the event's Event Name field) wouldn't have any effect on the delivery of any of the messages that the event might generate. So this whole side discussion about hashtags ought to be a red-herring in terms of why you're not getting the expected messages. But hashtags do have some powerful options, which is why I advised you to check on them.

How to promote my group

Hello
I run Stampers UK and we are quite a small group at the moment so would love new members. We are UK based only though to save on postage for members swapping artwork they have created.
Is there anywhere I can "advertise" or "promote" our group to try and get new members
Thank you

You can also quickly remove it from the archives. If you click on the little triangle at the end, it gives you a list of options, one of which is "delete topic."

While any email received from your group can be forwarded, there is no provision within groups.io to do message-forwarding -- to non-members or otherwise -- via the web interface. You will have to use cut-and-paste to do something like that.

A question:? Does the group we're talking about have a private message archive? Please consider the confidentiality aspects of forwarding someone's message to somewhere that they did not intend it to go. As for articles, I prefer to post a hyperlink to such things, so as to avoid copyright infringement.

A question from one of my group members:? Is there an option to forward (in this case an interesting article posted to the group) To an individual who is not a member of the group, or to forward it to another group with similar interests?

I could not find any references to forwarding...

Yes, that would be Step 0. Make sure this new hashtag #surprise has either the "locked" or the "moderate" checkbox selected, so people cannot reply without your intervention.

do I send the email that I have excluded the 2 members by using your method of turning them off to receive mail temporarily as normal to [email protected]? or do I send it to the hash tag?
1) Turn off email delivery to the two people using the process I mentioned in my last message.
2) Send the party announcement to the group posting address, appending the #surprise hashtag to the subject line.
3) Return to Admin>Members and reset those two people's message delivery to whatever it was before.

Obviously, this process is far from convenient. Groups.io is designed for information-sharing, not hiding. :-)

Yes, but it's a bit of trouble.?

Open each subscriber's member record (Admin>Members) and note their Email Delivery preference. Temporarily set it to No Email. Send the message, then set them both back.

Note the following:

-- Any other messages sent to the group in the interim will also fail to be sent to these folks. I wouldn't delay very long in changing their settings back.
-- Your post will still appear in the message archive. If either of them reads messages online, then your efforts will be in vain.
-- Any reply to the group could also tip them off. I suggest you tag your post announcing the surprise party with a hashtag that has the locked or moderated checkbox set.

Even then, any well-meaning group member who happens to change the subject line could inadvertently let the cat out of the bag.

Good luck,

It would not hurt to report this behavior to support. Having said that, I believe it is a logic error to assume that an all-day event must start at midnight. Many of us have subscribers all over the globe, in various time zones, so I don't really know what that means. If your event must start at midnight local time, set it up as a midnight event and set the end time at 11:59.

Hope this helps,

Re: Calendar not consistently sending reminders #cal-reminder

Make sure the events have not been cancelled. I think this applies only to events with RSVPs, which are a Premium feature.
No events cancelled (we are not a Premium Group)

Have any of them been showing up in your group's Pending messages page? It is possible for event reminders to require moderator approval (irrespective of the group's?Moderated?checkbox).
No pending messages.? Nothing awaiting moderator approval.

I would go to your group's Hashtag's page and click on the?Edit?button for #cal-reminder. Make sure none of the?hashtag options?are set, or look into the function of any that are. I don't see any that would result in a message being missing from both the archive and one's email inbox, but maybe there's something I haven't noticed.
I checked Hashtag Options & no boxes were checked.? I checked the boxs for 1) send as a special message and 2) replies unmoderated.
?
Do likewise for any hashtags that appear in the event's?Event Name?field.
I did not have a #Events so I created one.? I noticed the calendar entries (birthdays, anniversaries, meetings, etc) are all "events".? Could this be the missing link?

Thanks for your help Shal.? I'll let you know if this change works to trigger emails to members when the next "event" is scheduled.

Cannot login to group

A month ago I setup a group for our club - to which I am owner.

I have used the group, and can login, post etc from my iMac.

I tried to login from another computer (a Raspberry Pi, but that is probably irrelevent) but was told my username/password is incorrect.

I recorded both, and saved in the browsers on my iMac, but they would not work on the Raspberry Pi.

I used the option to send a link to log into Groups.io, and following that everything seems to work.

Why did the password not work?
