I did not have a #Events so I created one.?
I'm not sure why you did, but it should be harmless. Note that the messages generated by calendar events all carry a default hashtag. Those are #cal-invite, #cal-notice, and #cal-reminder.
I noticed the calendar entries (birthdays, anniversaries, meetings, etc) are all "events".? Could this be the missing link?
I'm not certain what you mean. Whatever purpose you use it for, every entry in the calendar goes by the generic term "event". I think that's just shorter than saying "calendar entry" to refer to them.
Normally the hashtags (either automatic, or placed by you in the event's Event Name field) wouldn't have any effect on the delivery of any of the messages that the event might generate. So this whole side discussion about hashtags ought to be a red-herring in terms of why you're not getting the expected messages. But hashtags do have some powerful options, which is why I advised you to check on them.
