Re: Turn off Database Map or default to List

I don't have a premium group to test this.? According to a changelog, , there's supposed to be a button to toggle between map and list.? I don't know if it would be sticky or require use each time.? To the best of my knowledge, you can't use maps on a free group, .

Gerald,
The actual functionality appears to be is as follows. ...I don't see this one. 2. Browse to and upload a new fileThe intent is that you'd browse to and upload a revised copy of the original file. Hence "Update". 3. Change the filename text to match the newly selected and uploaded fileOnly if the name needs correction. 4. Comments are not changed unless the user manually changes themDitto. Yes, you could misuse the feature to replace the file with a completely different one, but if that were your intent then the more straightforward way would be to use "Delete" and "Upload File". However, I suspect that no matter what wording is used, it will still be confusing?for users to figure out what functionality is included. The actual functionality appears to be is as follows. Gerald,
Perhaps it would have been less confusing if the term used was "EditI think the word "edit" is more the problem. Also, you can use that dialog to replace the content, not just the properties. How about "Update File"? Feel free to chime in you have other ideas to clarify this function. For your example, you would need to use a program such as Microsoft Word. Perhaps it would have been less confusing if the term used was "Edit Properties" rather than "Edit file". -- Gerald |

The problem is that the ¡®replace¡¯ icon is misidentified as as ¡®edit¡¯ icon which implies the current files is edited in place.

UNABLE TO EDIT FILES ON THE IO FILE PAGE
#howto
Hello All...
I had a problem today while trying to edit an item in the 'Files' section of my IO Group. There are icons there for editing, moving, deleting, and reporting each file in that section. I needed to update a particular file but clicking on 'edit' next to the file only opens a card showing the following: a] A blank field with a 'BROWSE' button (but that take me to my Mac's Finder list. b] a field containng the 'FILE NME' c] a field containing the 'DESCRIPTION; d] at the bottom, two buttons: 'CANCEL' and 'UPDATE' ¨Cboth of which took me back to the files list! I could click on the name of any file in the list but that only downloaded the file to my (MacBook Pro) desktop 'as is' which isn't an update. (The same seems to be the case for all the other things in my file list: Those buttons don't seem to work; I can only click on a file's title and download it.) So my question is: Why doesn't the 'edit' button next to a file not allow one to update the file? The file in question in this instance was a MS .docx file. Or could it be a problem with Safari (vers. 11.0.3)? And, BTW, pausing AdBlock doesn't help here, as doing so at times does. But, since perhaps I am overlooking something that's part of the process of an editing a file, any suggestions or explanation for how to do so from the files page accessed from a Group.io's sidebar button would be very much appreciated. Re: Groups.io accounts not subscribed to any group
Charlie,
Otherwise, their unattended account will pose a potential securityHow so? What's at risk? I don't see much opportunity for mischief in an account that has no subscriptions. If the original person put sensitive information into their Profile that's about the only exposure I see, were the account taken over by a crook. That appears to get posted just before the day starts. Re: Calendar Reminder Not Being Sent
Thank you for the response.
The timezone for both the calendar event and my account is set to Eastern Time (US).? The event in question is an all day event. I have two other events for that day which are also all-day event and their reminders were sent out correctly. |

Gary,
Is there a way to grant read access to members of group W22 withoutNo. I don't think there's ever a way to make a File available to someone who isn't a member of the (sub)group that holds the file. If those files contain primarily text (that is, if you could create them as an email message) you could store their content as Member Notices (of type "Note to member") in the primary group. Only moderators of the group have access to the notices, and can select individual member(s) from the group's Members list and send a note at need. "Several dozen" might make the drop-list from which the moderator selects the file to send a bit ungainly, but you might try this technique for the most commonly used files. Re: Calendar Reminder Not Being Sent
Medel,
The event reminder was sent 6:59am of Nov. 22. The reminder was setThe seven hour offset suggests a time-zone issue. I'm not entirely certain if All-Day events work differently with respect to time zone, but you should take a look into the event (edit it from the calendar page) and compare its Time Zone setting to that listed on your Account's Preferences page. Each event has a time zone (which ought to be set according to the location of the event, but defaults to the time zone of the member that created the event). Each member's account also has a time zone. Event notices and reminders are normally adjusted according the time zone of the receiving member. Re: Groups.io accounts not subscribed to any group
Charlie,
What happens to Groups.io accounts that never become subscribed to anyI don't believe so. Possibly someday they'll accumulate to the point where Mark feels inclined to purge them, but I don't recall him mentioning anything like that so far. The owner of the account can always log in and delete their account, but I suspect most accounts without subscriptions are really mistakes of one kind or another, and that no one will bother to delete them. Especially those that have NC status. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Turn off Database Map or default to List
#database
Help!! I may be not finding it - but how, how can the map be turned off in Databases, or at least force the default view to List?
I run groups that absolutely do not need the Map option, and it's causing nothing but confusion with it defaulting to that view when opening a database. We do have times when we need to collect postal addresses to mail kits, etc. - but no need for the default map appearing. Help?? Please? Ginny T |
Re: question about banning members.
Chris,
Email only. IP addresses are often shared among multiple users (a household, a library, a company, etc.). Also a user can be at different IP addresses at different times (Home, Work, Library) even from the same device and location. ?
There's not much you can do apart from being vigilant. A person can obtain a new email address and/or IP address relatively easily. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Gary Clark
We are a prison ministry and new to groups.io.? We have established a hierarchy of sub-groups within our main group.
All - everyone who has ever participated in the ministry AC - Members of the Advisory Council (they are the leaders of the ministry) - they are members of the All group W22 - members of ministry team #22 - they are members of the All group; some may also be members of AC subgroup. We have several dozen files owned by the AC sub-group.? We store these parent files and send copies to selected individuals as necessary.? Is there a way to grant read access to members of group W22 without adding them to the AC group?? If so, how do I do it? |
Re: so I've got a strange question about intigrations.
Shane,
I wrote a long tome on ideas for this but the File Upload dialog has "Notify Members" option - so you can just upload the file and everyone gets a message with a link to the file (as I recall).? One manual step once you have the file.? A script to generate the file on schedule might be helpful but there's no way to automatically do the upload. Toby |
