Gary,
Is there a way to grant read access to members of group W22 withoutNo. I don't think there's ever a way to make a File available to someone who isn't a member of the (sub)group that holds the file. If those files contain primarily text (that is, if you could create them as an email message) you could store their content as Member Notices (of type "Note to member") in the primary group. Only moderators of the group have access to the notices, and can select individual member(s) from the group's Members list and send a note at need. "Several dozen" might make the drop-list from which the moderator selects the file to send a bit ungainly, but you might try this technique for the most commonly used files. Re: Calendar Reminder Not Being Sent
Medel,
The event reminder was sent 6:59am of Nov. 22. The reminder was setThe seven hour offset suggests a time-zone issue. I'm not entirely certain if All-Day events work differently with respect to time zone, but you should take a look into the event (edit it from the calendar page) and compare its Time Zone setting to that listed on your Account's Preferences page. Each event has a time zone (which ought to be set according to the location of the event, but defaults to the time zone of the member that created the event). Each member's account also has a time zone. Event notices and reminders are normally adjusted according the time zone of the receiving member. Re: Groups.io accounts not subscribed to any group
Charlie,
What happens to Groups.io accounts that never become subscribed to anyI don't believe so. Possibly someday they'll accumulate to the point where Mark feels inclined to purge them, but I don't recall him mentioning anything like that so far. The owner of the account can always log in and delete their account, but I suspect most accounts without subscriptions are really mistakes of one kind or another, and that no one will bother to delete them. Turn off Database Map or default to List
#database
Help!! I may be not finding it - but how, how can the map be turned off in Databases, or at least force the default view to List?
I run groups that absolutely do not need the Map option, and it's causing nothing but confusion with it defaulting to that view when opening a database. We do have times when we need to collect postal addresses to mail kits, etc. - but no need for the default map appearing. Help?? Please? Ginny T |

Re: question about banning members.
Chris,
Email only. IP addresses are often shared among multiple users (a household, a library, a company, etc.). Also a user can be at different IP addresses at different times (Home, Work, Library) even from the same device and location. ?
There's not much you can do apart from being vigilant. A person can obtain a new email address and/or IP address relatively easily. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Gary Clark
We are a prison ministry and new to groups.io.? We have established a hierarchy of sub-groups within our main group.
All - everyone who has ever participated in the ministry AC - Members of the Advisory Council (they are the leaders of the ministry) - they are members of the All group W22 - members of ministry team #22 - they are members of the All group; some may also be members of AC subgroup. We have several dozen files owned by the AC sub-group.? We store these parent files and send copies to selected individuals as necessary.? Is there a way to grant read access to members of group W22 without adding them to the AC group?? If so, how do I do it? |

Re: so I've got a strange question about intigrations.
Shane,
I wrote a long tome on ideas for this but the File Upload dialog has "Notify Members" option - so you can just upload the file and everyone gets a message with a link to the file (as I recall).? One manual step once you have the file.? A script to generate the file on schedule might be helpful but there's no way to automatically do the upload. Toby |

Re: so I've got a strange question about intigrations.
Shal,
To clarify, you author the document as a docx, copy/paste the content to amessage that you send to the group, and > then upload the docx to the group's Files section. Have I got the right mental picture? Yes. That is correct. Why would a member find it easier to troll the File section than theMessages section? I don't actually know, this is still in development the files section so it may not even hit the final product. That's not really rhetorical, I'm trying to understand the use case.I haven't fully decided if I'm gonna leave the files section apart of this thing or not. Oh, and speaking of PDF, I always recommend that over doc or docx forsharing content with others - unless it is a > > close community and you know they have the tools for dealing with doc or docx. If I don't bother with the upload, I may just switch to PDF storage of the content before creating the message. The goal is to at least automate the message sending based on information stored in a file, or in a database because that info is updated throughout a period, say daily, and at the end of the period it needs to be dumped to the list. I'm not against other ideas for this project. |

Shane,
This information normally comes in the form of a docx file that afterTo clarify, you author the document as a docx, copy/paste the content to a message that you send to the group, and then upload the docx to the group's Files section. Have I got the right mental picture? ... if a member doesn¡¯t feel like trolling the archive. Why would a member find it easier to troll the File section than the Messages section? That's not really rhetorical, I'm trying to understand the use case. I know that the two sections have different organizing principles - with Files you can organize them into folders. With messages you can hashtag them for quick access. Both sections are searchable (though I haven't tested whether File search can find content inside a docx file, it seems to be able to read PDF so there's a chance). Oh, and speaking of PDF, I always recommend that over doc or docx for sharing content with others - unless it is a close community and you know they have the tools for dealing with doc or docx. PDF also has the advantage that most browsers can open the file directly, rather than requiring a download. I¡¯m suspecting at least the uploading may have to be done manually,Groups.io has an API, but I've never looked into using it. I don't know if it will help you or not. I was thinking a receive only aliase could receive the text from aFire it off to an integration address for the group. Yes, that should work. Or if you mean that the script would deliver the content directly to the integration address, I guess that would be possible depending on your toolkit's support for SMTP transactions. I know Mark has been working on upgrades to the authentication of inbound group postings, but I don't know if or how that might apply to integration addresses (as opposed to the group's posting address). I know the changes that mark uploads weekly have to be automated, lol.Hmm... I wonder. I've always imagined that he manually curates that, reading from something maintained by his dev tools. so I've got a strange question about intigrations.
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOne of my lists, it¡¯s primary purpose is to disseminate information to its members. This information normally comes in the form of a docx file that after sending in the body of an e-mail is uploaded to the files section of the site for retrieval later if a member doesn¡¯t feel like trolling the archive. I¡¯m trying to figure out the best way to automate this process, meaning sending the text of the docx to the list, then upload said content to the files section. I¡¯m suspecting at least the uploading may have to be done manually, but if not, I¡¯m all for it. I was thinking a receive only aliase could receive the text from a script and fire it off. I know the changes that mark uploads weekly have to be automated, lol. Who wants to keep track of remembering to fire something off, so I thought I could so something similar with my list. Any thoughts would be appreciated. |

Re: [email protected] not working for me
Keith,
I have no idea what has happened but after sending an email to theOk, well I'm glad to hear that worked out for you. So the question I ask now is what page is shown after you press theNot sure why you need to know, or which green button you would still be seeing, but I've added screenshots to our Wiki page to illustrate the process from beginning to end: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Group-Transfer-Process Hopefully that will help. Re: Group member has "No subscriptions"
That would suggest to me that she has logged in with another email address, not the one that she used to join your group. That was indeed the case, though the member does not know how the change of email address happened. However she can now log in and access the main website on Gio and is much relieved. Thank you for all your help. Margaret Parker UK |

Re: New Group Not Being Created From Yahoo Groups
Cathy,
I did see the invited message in Yahoo Groups in the activity log so II meant the join rigamarole, to have your test address accept the invitation. But no matter, I still have the impression this part of the discussion is premature. I accepted the other users invite by email but I didn¡¯t get one forNaturally, that one was sent to Groups.io not to you. (note that the other user doesn¡¯t appear as a member in YahooGroups)It might take a bit of time for the accept by email to be processed, but the addresses that received and replied to the invitation should end up on your Yahoo Group's Manage Members list. By the lov I mean the list of values for In Process, this group doesAre there other transfers in that list? Is there a limit to the number of groups you can own in the freeNope. I've added some more description and screenshots to GMF's wiki page about transfers. Hopefully this will help us clear up where you are in the process. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Group-Transfer-Process Let us know how your experience differs from the process outlined in the wiki page.
