The default behavior is that any messages left in the Pending queue for more than two weeks are automatically deleted. However, as a Moderator/Owner you can override that timeout by "claiming" the messages. You "claim" a pending?message?by clicking the Edit button. Even if you subsequently cancel the edit, you've still claimed it.?? Such "claimed" messages will remain in Pending indefinitely until you or another Moderator further processes them. In your case, you would open your Pending queue on November 1 and approve them all at once. Member has log in issues
One of our members with a googlemail.com email address is unable to successfully access our site.? Her husband witrh a gmail.com email address can.
This is from her message to me: "I can¡¯t get on using a password. I pressed email a link and it sent me a link which I clicked on. I was sent straight to a page to add a new topic. I pressed on a menu but nothing allowed me to put in a password.
Sorry I¡¯ve never come across this messaging system before."
-- I've suggested she clear her cookies etc., ensured that her password is correct via 'Account' but so far, no success.? Any ideas anyone? Peter |

?Hi there, I co-own a paint shop pro list that has a "war" the first weekend of every month. Well, we want everyone to be able to pre-load their shares to be "let go" manually?throughout the NEXT war all month. My question is, is this possible? Let's say I want to pre-load today for a war that starts the 1st weekend in november and just let those shares sit and wait needing approval. Can I do that or will the messages vanish from the group? So many of us lose being able to share as much as we would like do to the 40 emails in 30 mins loop ban. Thanks for reading. Dani |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýpsb b,how does a members post appear in my inbox (I am owner) but it does not appear in the groups messages? Most likely it wasn't actually a post to the group. It may have been addressed to the +owner address as Frances suggested, or it may have been addressed to you directly. If the message was sent to you as a group posting then it would have the normal group footer at the bottom, with your email address next to the Unsubscribe link. Consequently, my reply post doesn't appear anywhere! What does the To field say in your reply? Most likely it has that member's address rather than your group's posting address. In looking at email addresses in your inbox, don't be fooled by display name text. If the From or To address field contains an email address inside <angle brackets> (yellow highlighter in the screenshot) that is the actual email address. Any text to the left of the angle bracketed address is just Display Name text. Even when it looks like an email address, as in the example screenshot, the Display Name text is not used as an email address. Or if not, check your settings in Admin -?Message Policies - There is the option to allow non-members to post: ?if checked, owners and moderators can approve a post from a non-member. This is true even in a non-moderated group. Members can read the post and respond, but the non-member would not see the replies. You would need to forward them, summarize the replies and email the summary to the non-member, or invite the non-member to join. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Quick-Start-for-Group-Formation ?

That wouldn't work in my case. With Roadrunner email (Spectrum cable), they don't even tell you that they filter your spam before they send it to you. I was missing some emails that I suspected I should be receiving and did some searching and found that I can set their filter up to mark it as spam if it thinks it is but send it on anyway for me to decide. Their filter wasn't very good, and neither is Yahoo's from what I've seen for their groups. (The recommendation in Yahoo's GMF is to turn off the spam filter for groups.) I guess the main point is that it's the member's responsibility to take care of this, but unfortunately many don't know what's going on or how to access the settings for their email account. With webmail, I doubt you're going to have a phone number to call to help you figure this out and change settings. If the group owner wishes, they can step in to help. Or they can leave it up to the members to contact the owner for help. I expect the marking messages as spam to happen more frequently right after moving a group from Yahoo to IO. Not everyone likes being moved to another platform. I own a senior group and on occasion their messages are sent to the spamJudy - I very much understand your dilemma. I also own a group where a lot of members are in the right hand lane of the information highway, and as I've commented before, some seem to be driving up the parking lane with their flashers on. The important thing is to **move those messages to another folder** before deleting them. This is only a problem with messages deleted from the *spam* folder. My ISP's email system will allow me to check a box in front of the messages in question and mark them as "Not Spam" which moves them to the inbox where they can be deleted just fine. For others, they may need to drag-and-drop the messages to another folder before deleting them. In spite of what many people think, computers are not really 'smart'. They're just machines that follow instructions to the letter. The rule that several have already explained, only applies to messages deleted from the spam folder. Messages deleted from any other folder don't meet the requirements of the rule, and so don't cause problems. I hope this helps. Good luck! Dano |

This from the GMF wiki gives chapter and verse on the subject: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Removed-for-spam and I strongly recommend that you send that link to your members because it ought to be sufficient for them to get around the problem for themselves; it cannot be done for them. There are clear do's and don'ts which if followed will help to minimise the problem. Chris |

Having said that, I doubt that the invitation text and some other key notifications sent by groups.io will ever be fully customizable. If nothing else, a sentence or two clarifying the procedure to "opt-out" of a subscription must be present, for legal reasons. Regards, Bruce |

I have a huge group email address with over 100 email addresses on it and I explicitly welcome new members with the strong admonition that they MUST add my email address to their Contacts or risk not receiving emails to that group email address. The only email provider that does not seem to consistently work with is that damned Google Mail. E.g. I sent a senior an email to his Gmail address explaining that the alert he had received from his web browser that the site he was trying to access was suspect was in fact a valid warning. In that brief email, two or three sentences long, sent only to him, sent from the address I always use with him, I mentioned the address of the bad web site. He sent me a screenshot of his Gmail inbox with my email: my email carried some ¡°Hazardous to open¡± warning based, I am certain, on the fact that my email mentioned that bad web site. JudyUnfortunately for them, it's an agreed-upon protocol many forums and group sites have made with various email providers as a protection to the users. The members will have to lean to train their spam folders appropriately and also to not delete groups.io messages in the spam folder. Web sites which do not adhere to this arrangement often find their sites blacklisted, so this can't be turned off. It's the duty of the members to see that their email is routed correctly and to not delete those posts from the group. They do get a link to reactivate their membership. For a group like this, I would recommend sending out a special notice often (at least monthly if not more often) explaining this and mention that you are willing to help them learn how to set up their spam filter correctly if you are willing to do so. For Roadrunner email, just turn off the spam filter and have it send everything to the inbox with the label SPAM added to the subject line. That way nothing important ends up in there and you get a heads-up that a message MAY (or may not) be spam. That's how I have mine set up. For other email services, you'll have to learn how to handle those on an individual basis but if it's important, it would be worth your while to help them that way. For now, I would send out an email about not marking messages as spam nor deleting them from the spam folder if they are group posts. Then you can work with them on an individual basis as this comes up. I have the following situation regarding those Invites.
My members are elderly people who for the majority do not speak English. I've been able to get them to use the system by given them some tutorials and translating everything to Dutch. You can imagine that when they receive an email written in English it rings their 'spam' or 'phishing' bell, so I make sure that I add my personal invitation in Dutch, in another color and so on. The personal addition is not retained from session to session so for every invite to be send I have to open an external file, copy the text, paste it, ... before I can launch the invite. Is there no way to prevent the fixed text to be included in the Invite? How can I make my personal additions permanent? Thanks In Advance, A.J. |
