The biggest problem for Yahoo, is that it never learned how to target
advertisers for these lists. It took them almost a decade to figure out
that screening advertisers for lists might be useful. (There are few
things are more disconcerting than seeing an add for a brothrel in a

Oath might be better at figuring out how to monetize YahooGroups, so
that it generates more revenue than the other parts of Oath. But I have
my doubts.

That 100,000,000 subscribers sounds impressive, but it doesn't translate
into daily eyeballs on the site. It is a 100,000,000 people that
occasionaly visit the site, but usually only read messages to/from the site.

For a whilst, YahooGroups was inserting two or more adds into the middle
of the emails that were sent, with virtually nothing to differentiate
the add from the non-add parts.

Actually, good question on the other content besides messages. "Archives" refers to messages. I'm not sure about the other content. I suspect that needs to be clarified but I think it does apply to all content, not just the "archives" (which, strictly speaking, refers only to messages).

Re: #Testimonials #testimonials

I mostly just read messages that come into my email inbox.? On Yahoo Groups, I had a small group for people with disabilities who used service dogs; or, who were thinking about getting one.? I think the most members including me, was around 8.? It was active enough for people who deal with one kind of disability or another? on a daily basis.? When the neo came into our lives, one member at a time, it was really hard to figure it out, when one member had questions about the change and none of the other members could see the same thing.?
?
Once all of us were converted to neo, I did have problems with the files section.? I could never get files to download and there was no way to view them online.? I do not know if that has changed as I rarely visit my group or any other group at Yahoo Groups.? The group members started dropping off from posting messages.? Neo was not all that user-friendly especially for those who have disabilities.? I think I might have deleted that group; but, maybe not.? I know that it has not had any activity in at least 2 or 3 years.?
?
I do not recall how I heard about groups.io; probably, from a message in YGOG - Yahoo Group of Groups, I think that's the correct full name of the group.? I went and registered with groups.io and waited a bit before I created a group unrelated to service dogs and disabilities.? While groups.io seemed clean and uncluttered when compared with Yahoo Groups, it did cause me a few problems.? It is possible that my brain is just differently-wired and that's the main reason for the problems.? I can do most things from my email account.? However, there are things that require me to visit my group.? It is about the same size as my Yahoo Group was, maybe a little bigger.? Since the owner of the watercolor group moved her group to Facebook and the owner of the watercolor techniques group died, I offered my groups.io group to members who did not use Facebook or Google groups.? Since there are also some artistic members in the MS group, I did ask some of them to join.?
?
Even now, people are still using Yahoo Groups.? I still get messages and reply to messages from my email account.? Much the same as before neo.? I don't use Facebook.? I only have one group from Google Groups for electric vehicle owners or those who are just interested. Most groups that send messages to my email inbox are Yahoo Groups.

Jennifer,

Earlier today, I originated an email in Outlook and sent to two different groups on Groups.io.? There were significant formatting differences between those two emails when they arrived at Groups.io -- and when they were disseminated to members.? What gives??
?
Probably group settings. See the Message Formatting section of the Settings page. In particular Normalize HTML Emails will remove colors. As will the more drastic Plain Text Only. Those also affect what formatting tools are available when you compose a message on site.

Having worked with Mark and the others on groups.io for three years now**, I completely agree with J. Mark is one of the most patient, talented and professional people I've ever met, and the synergy of that passion and the efforts of early users has produced an incredibly flexible, durable product that is still capable of doing many things quite well. Mark has been the one to take all these thoughts and pull them into a functioning entity. I expect even more in the future after the 'Great Exodus' subsides. Being a multiple premium group owner, I know that Mark has a sound financial plan as well, and I expect groups.io to last a long time.

Of course, users who are worried about the survivability of groups.io can always use the competitors' services. There are a few, and trust me, between us I think we've tried 'em all.

The way I understand it, in groups.io your email address IS your user id. Probably the easiest way to address this problem is to simply delete the user and send them an invitation using their new email address.?

Re: Why use hashtags in a group? #hashtags

My group uses a limited moderated set of hashtags for our book discussion group: #off-topic for side discussions; #spoiler for comments referring to unread chapters that some members may wish to avoid; #technical for comments on mechanics, a few others.Members can mute the tags to avoid messages they don't want to see. I'm not sure the usage is optimal, but it seems to be working, although I don't know if the membership is actually using them.

A formatting oddity appeared today

Earlier today, I originated an email in Outlook and sent to two different groups on Groups.io.? There were significant formatting differences between those two emails when they arrived at Groups.io -- and when they were disseminated to members.? What gives??

In my original email, I had highlighted some text in yellow for emphasis.?

When the message sent to ACOEM-WFD Section arrived in my Outlook later, it displayed the yellow highlighting.? (I no longer moderate that group daily -- a colleague does.)??

BUT when I went to the Groups.io website to approve/release my email to the WFDRoundtable, the text had no yellow highlights.? I clicked on the advanced formatting icon? and there seemed to be no option for color of any kind -- neither text nor highlighting.? ?Those options are available here right now.? ? Furthermore, I am accustomed to seeing messages show up and be released by Groups.io and then arrived in my Outlook inbox with fancy formatting that is not available through Groups.io.? ?So I clicked "preview" -- and there was no yellow highlighting.? I was working in Chrome, and wondered whether maybe Firefox has capabilities that Chrome doesn't.? That wasn't it -- the message looked the same.? So I gave up and DELETED the sentence that told readers to look for the highlighting, and approved it for release.? ?When it arrived in my Outlook inbox, there was no yellow highlighting.? ?

One with, one without.? Explanations anyone?

Re: Log In issues for Existing Subscribers

I have seen a problem around logging in, but I am not sure what it is.
Last weekend, I had a marathon email correspondence with a fellow owner of our group who owned and monitored the group on Y! for two decades. I would call him a "digital immigrant", not nearly a digital native, but certainly minimally literate.
He could not figure out how to log on to our group site on grio. I am not sure where the confusion arose, but the man struggled. His account was set up properly with a password. Although he changed his password, his old password seemed to retained somewhere, perhaps in a browser cache, but perhaps not, Eventually I realized that he was logged in, but did not recognize it.
Since our discussion was all email and he tried several things before he got back to me each time, reconstruction is not possible, but I agree that taking users consistently to the group home page would help.

Be sure to enter the member email addresses in the invitation on separate lines. I don't think it will work if you separate them with commas.

Also, just a thought about attachments. LeeAnne, I may not be understanding you completely. Perhaps attachments would work for you if you had them set to delete the oldest as the limits approach. You could set the attachments size limit to avoid the accidental monster photo to stretch you apace even more. Just a thought.

One question this brings to mind - If a group is near its size limit and someone posts a file or an image in the Photos area, will that displace an attachment, or do only messages push attachments out?

Mark says he set something up to automatically send a message to the Y!Group's -owner address as soon as he receives the Invite. Bottom item here:

So have a look in your spam folder or anywhere else an -owner message may have been delivered.

That response should happen immediately, whereas the transfer won't actually accept the invitation, and you will not get the "new member" notice, until your turn in the queue.
