Ralph,
How do you like the motor performance? Do you have continuous (0%-100%) analog speed control? What did you do for your mounts and belt drive interfaces?
.
I was looking at this pretty closely
.
.
TIA for your thoughts

It's frequently possible to get a free treadmill on bulk trash day! If not, they're usually available cheaply at thrift stores. In addition to the motor & controller, there's usually quite a bit of square tubing & other metal stock for all sorts of projects. I've also gotten quite a bit of useful stuff from discarded motorized exercise bikes.

Hi Chris

Nice you are following us on the Group.

I have an electrical question: how do you make ?120 V to a 220 V motor?? (Just for education!)

?

The 5200 lathe lamps is for 220 V, so it is difficult to read, but easy to fix.

To day with my broken motor, I see the FAULT lamp is glowing a littlebit.

Can you explain FAULT error ?

I will take out the rotor from the front side, all cables are going in back.

If I am remembering correct, there are some springs on the back part I have to be carefully with.

The rotor is a littlebit difficult to drag out, very heavy magnetism

The first and last time I open this 5200 LMS motor , I saw the axel was ugly under the bearing.

This time I will take some pictures.

I have a 7x14 lathe and I would not be happy with a 7x12 or smaller, so my advice is to get at least 7x14. The best buy would probably be on the local used listings (craigslist, kijiji, etc..) to find a machine from somebody nearby.

I think I'd plan on fixing a mini-lathe myself. A lot of the parts are similar in the different 7x lathes, so I think I could find parts pretty easily from LMS or MicroMark or on eBay or direct from China (AliExpress, Banggood)..
I don't think a warranty is worth much from most companies these days.
Perhaps LMS is the exception?

Re: Check this out – walmart online shopping vevor lathe - Bing - Shopping

Mike

I have had three such experiences with Walmart vendors in the recent few years and all three were resolved quickly by Walmart Customer Service people who took my call. In all three cases, they quickly refunded my money and told me that they will take over the issue with the vendors related to the shipment. In one case they even asked me to keep the item because it was shipped from a location outside of the US. In the other two cases, they sent me UPS labels for returning the items. The listings were also immediately removed by the CS people.?

I think Walmart or Amazon have a reputation to maintain and as a result, they always tend to side with the buyer than the vendor. I have heard about many similar stories at Amazon CS too. I had only one such experience with Amazon in 2017 which was quickly resolved in my favor.??

payment to eBay or Amazon. They do this in order to take their cut of
the sale. I view it as them shooting themselves in the foot because my
financial statement says I purchased an item from eBay/Amazon and when
I talk to their support I am very clear that *they* sold me the item
since *they* took my money, and I have nothing to do with their

seller I respond by asking if they are saying the sale was fraudulent,
since my card says they received the money, and if they didn't sell
the item I will report the charge as fraudulent.

So, if you buy from and they process the payment, don't
let them tell you they aren't the seller...all evidence is that they
are. They do this to try and leave you without recourse for whatever
the problem is. But, legally speaking, if they take your money they
have to deliver the product they sold you. If they ever start

you sold me the item and I expect you to support that sale". Report it

Re: Different Prices - such a range-Here is low price on a name brand

Edited

Great deal - at least $1500 in lathe and accessories in the picture.

Actually more like about $1650 (metal handwheels) because:

A bit odd - name plate shows it's a 5200 which was a 5100 with metal handwheels on the tailstock and carriage, but also DRO's that are not in evidence.

LMS has be changing model number around lately, 5200 is now 7350 with a third DRO.? ?(Perhaps LMS is confusing me with their numerous model number changes)

Seller must really not have liked it to take a $1000 lost.
