Movement of barges may occur outside of these work hours. This evening, January 10, work activities will extend beyond standard hours and continue until approximately 10 p.m. near Sediment Management Area (SMA) 9, which is on the east shoreline. These activities are part of the sheet pile wall construction and will require lighting to illuminate the work area. Welding operations are anticipated, with noise levels expected to remain typical for construction work. Also, this Saturday, January 11, work activities will begin at 7 a.m. because of favorable tidal conditions. This work will also include sheet pile wall construction. For questions or concerns, you can reach our team at info@... or 1-888-561-LDWG (1-888-561-5394). Please note that in-water construction activities are tide and weather-dependent. Cleanup at SMA 7 has been rescheduled to season two of construction Work at SMA 9 includes continued installation of sheet pile. This may cause higher noise levels. Contractors will begin backfilling in SMAs where the dredging of contaminated material has been completed to replace it with clean material. Barges will bring the clean material to the SMA, and an excavator on a separate barge will place the material in and around the dredged area. SMA 3 will be backfilled first. SMA 4 backfilling may also start this week depending upon the completion of SMA 3. Lower Duwamish Waterway Construction during the weeks of December 9 and 16
Stay in the know about the dredging! South Park Neighborhood Association (SPNA) monthly meetings, 2nd Tuesday 6-7:30: Duwamish River Community Hub 8600 14th Ave S mailing address: 8201 10th Ave. S. Seattle, WA 98108 ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: LDWG <info@...> Date: Fri, Dec 6, 2024 at 3:45 PM Subject: Lower Duwamish Waterway Construction during the weeks of December 9 and 16 To: <spnaseattle@...> Cleanup Construction Activities Crews are dredging to remove contaminated sediments from the river bottom of the Lower Duwamish Waterway. Water quality monitoring is performed during dredging operations. After removal, dredged material is transported by barge to a permitted facility next to the waterway where it is transferred to land, loaded into rail cars, and taken to Waste Management*s Columbia Ridge Commercial Landfill (a permitted landfill) in Arlington, Oregon for disposal. Cleanup began in late November and has been focused on sediment management areas (SMA) 3, 4, and 6. What to expect during the weeks of December 9 and 16 As shown on the map linked below, during the weeks of December 9 and 16, cleanup construction will continue in SMA 3, 4, and 6 and construction will begin in SMA 2, 7, and 9. Work is generally being done in two SMAs at a time. After dredging is complete in each area, clean sand will be placed over the river bottom using similar equipment. Beginning the week of December 9, and continuing over the next two weeks, crews plan to start sheet pile installation next to SMA 9. Sheet piles, which consist of large metal sheets, will be driven into the ground to shore up the land before debris removal and dredging at SMA 9. Sheet pile installation may cause higher noise levels during the daytime. Thank you for your patience as we continue the cleanup. Construction is scheduled within standard working hours, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., currently Monday through Friday. Movement of barges may occur outside of these work hours. For questions or concerns, you can reach our team during construction hours at info@... or 1-888-561-LDWG (1-888-561-5394).
