I think doing a practice is very wise. In my case the previous owner had done a wonderful varnish job on the centreplate which made it really tricky to stand on, slipped off a few times. Also - nice

Just my thoughts on gelcoat... Auto Glym Super Resin polish (red label) is good for restoring the colour and shine. However it's a very fine cutting polish so it takes a bit of work to get the shine

Farecla G 3 rubbing compound works well but the problem returns after a year or two. Im told the trick is to get a really good uv barrier wax. Or a bigger cover Mark Allinson

I do pretty much that, but I'd personally only ever wet sand the gel as I find it gives a better finish and mops out easier
