DiSlords latest release for the -H line is v1.2, found here. Download link: Should provide a better experience. Cheers, Chris. On Sat, 18 Jun 2022, 12:52 pm Mike McKinney, <theranger53@...> wrote:

substantially earlier version of firmware, you need to "clear config", and then power-cycle the nano. Thus clears the config variables that may be incompatible with the new firmware. I think the "clear config" command is under the config/expert settings menu in that firmware. There is a newer version of firmware, which has not yet been added to the files section of this group. It is at DiSlord's github: Scroll down the page and click.on the NanoVNA.H4.v1.2.00.dfu file to download it. It will also need the clear configfollowed by re-doing the touchscreen cal, etc. On Fri, Jun 17, 2022, 7:52 PM Mike McKinney <theranger53@...> wrote:

Re: Where can I find the latest STM upgrade SW download for a NanoVNA-H4
Good evening Stan,

I have had a UID and PW to STM for several years now and tried all this STM updating the NanoVNA-H4 at least a couple of years ago. I ultimately had a friend upgrade my Nano using his process that I did not understand. So now I am trying to do it myself again. So I did the download from STM out of the book you recommended to me successfully and chose to install the W8 64bit driver and it failed right off the bat. This seems like this was my major stumbling block back in time. I literally spent a week attempting to do this and had people telling me to read the book. Well I did this time and I got the same message. First, let's just install the driver, not the DfuSE DEMO software. The driver can be downloaded from the STM32 microcontroller manufacturer's website: When you click on ''Get Software'' the site will ask your e-mail address to send you an email with a download link. Click on the link inside the received e-mail to download zip file to your computer. Save the file en.stsw-stm32102.zip in a separate folder and unzip it. The unzipped file contains four drivers as in the Figure 51. The zip file contains drivers for Windows 7 and Windows 8, 32 and 64-bit. Win 8 drivers are OK for Win 10. NanoVNA should not be connected to a PC yet! To begin the installation, double-click the appropriate file, 32 or 64-bit. If you are installing on Windows 10, select W8 (32bits or 64bits) file. My system is a W10 64 bit system and I got the message #1626 that the driver failed to install. Any suggestions? Fred - N4CLA On Fri, Jun 17, 2022 at 6:50 PM Stan Dye <standye@...> wrote:

Well, I updated the firmware to the latest version I could find, and that was a joke. This thing is F;;;ed now. Can turn it on but I can¡¯t calibrate the touch and save it. I touch in the center of the screen and get the start screen for setting the Frequency. Can¡¯t open the menu with touch only with the button on top. Version 1.0.64 was the newest I could find. If there is a newer one could you point me to it. This is a DiSlord version that I found through the Absolute beginner PDF.

FYI, for non Windows users, the ST Cube programmer works on the Nano as well, but requires .bin files (provided by Huygen).

Typically when we say we are going to "verify a calibration", we just attach the 'open', 'short', and 'load' standards in turn, and look a the display to verify that they each show the correct values, which are a point a the far right of the Smith chart, a point at the far left, and a point in the center (respectively). If you follow *exactly *the instructions in the latest version of the "Absolute Beginner's Guide" (available in the files section here in this group), you will have the correct STM software and drivers installed, and be able to install the firmware updates. If you have upgraded to Windows 11, these instructions have not been well-tested that I am aware of, but likely will still work. Note that the Dfuse-demo software is not really a 'demo', it is released software intended to demonstrate capabilities of the STM processors. And yes, the website notes that it is replaced by newer software, but still has it there for download. I understand the newer software may also work, but the instructions for its use are not as clear (unless someone else here can clarify for you). Where can I find the latest STM upgrade SW download for a NanoVNA-H4
There have been many upgrade suggestions for the correct software to use when upgrading the NanoVNA-H4 and the instructions on how to use that code. I have not found anything that is supposed to be golden for the H4. It has all been see if this or that works. I would like to use the STM software. Is there a package there that is not a demo but the real thing and then I need the latest DFU file.
Thanks N4CLA - Fred |

NanoVNA 4 version 1.0.?
I had all slots filled with band segments mainly SSB 5.3305 - 29.7MHz, 3.8 - 4MHz, 7.175 - 7.3MHz, etc. I decided to verify the calibration, I set the stimulation to 7.025 - 7.3MHz for both CW and SSB, then performed the calibration and the slot now shows cw 800Hz - 800Hz. What have I done wrong? Thank you, 73, John W7OTD |
Re: sd card - fail write
I've been using a 4GB one in my H4, about 10y old. A cheap Kingston. Works fine, no problems yet.
The issues with modern cards I gathered from different projects: 1. the new fast cards 8GB+ are much more power hungry, and need a good stable voltage and well made decoupling at Vcc against GND, a capacitor soldered close to its socket (like 10-22uF ceramic multilayer smd one for 25V) 2. some may not support SPI (I heaven't see any yet) 3. ALL sdcards have got so called "write latency", WL with modern cards is up to 250ms (!!) long. WL means the card does not respond as it provides its internal "house keeping" - like wear-leveling, etc. The WL is a random process, not predictable, and it is always there, usually 5-10ms long in average, but sometimes much longer, and quite frequent. Applications which needs to write a certain amount of data without be interrupted during the write needs a FIFO to overcome the sdcard's WL. 4. modern bigger and faster cards have more options for speed and type (ie voltage levels) of the interface - needs to be maintained within the code properly 5. Timeouts - some cards need more retries or longer timeouts when you requesting something out of them.. HTH |
Re: sd card - fail write
Tim,
the NanoVNA does not require a large SD card (less than 8GB is the appropriate size), but the production quality is not negligible. NanoVNA uses STM32F303, which recognizes the SD card in FAT32 format. Use 'SD Card Formatter' for formatting. Unfortunately, there are too many manufacturers trying in the market and our users run into the mistake of getting the latest from the best. Because that's what computer merchants have in store for us. -- Gyula HA3HZ ( ) |

I was using NanoVNA-Saver to try to use the VNA on my computer. I have since learned that it is probably less hassle to just use the NanoVNA. Thanks for the response and I have a very bad habit of asking questions without putting enough info in. Will try to do better.

Re: NanoVNA for RFID design
I have about 100 used CGM I've absconded from my wife's bi-weekly usage (diabetic). TI has all sorts of info on line free for the downloading. See the pic attached for a sample. I can give out several just for the asking, except for the cell (Post Office is funny about that stuff) I've also attached the TI pdf. Have fun.
