The likely cause of your current issue is that when you upgrade from a
substantially earlier version of firmware, you need to "clear config", and
then power-cycle the nano. Thus clears the config variables that may be
incompatible with the new firmware. I think the "clear config" command is
under the config/expert settings menu in that firmware.
There is a newer version of firmware, which has not yet been added to the
files section of this group. It is at DiSlord's github:
Scroll down the page and click.on the NanoVNA.H4.v1.2.00.dfu file to
download it. It will also need the clear configfollowed by re-doing the
touchscreen cal, etc.

Mike,
The error message means, as Hugen wrote, that you need to update the
NanoVNA firmware because the software you were using did not recognize the
command. So the firmware has not been updated for you, but the software is
waiting for new commands.
Updating the firmware will probably resolve your issue.
