Re: SOLVED! missing Menu Bar in High Sierra

My apologies for misunderstand. I didn’t understand that you had an issue and were widening the inquiry. I didn’t see relation between the two. I apologize.

My issue had nothing to do with AirPlay, but a HDMI cable, two older devices and the fact that in the past Apple and the TV industry did not interpret the HDMI standards for the first version the same.

What are your devices doing wrong? The way you wrote it, it sounded as if you were asking me to check a setting to solve my issue.

It's a mess. It seems to be getting these from my iPhone. There's a barometer app shown under "edit widgets" (which I have only on my phone) etc. The gmail pic comes up every time I open safari, and won't go away. And it's not listed in the "edit widget" list so I can't click the minus sign to delete it.?

Correction and follow-up.

Correction, the below should read that this does not effect other means of connecting. Screen sharing and Remote Connection by AppleCare show the full desktop.

After checking the web, the TV manufacturer and Apple, it appears that there is no work around for these two older models. It appears that Apple and the TV industry did not agree on the early HDMI standards. This may have been resolved on both ends, since version 2 of HDMI is now available.

missing Menu Bar in High Sierra

I am trying to set up a late 2012 Mac mini, in High Sierra, on my way to upgrading it to Catalina to max out the mac OS.

One of the issues that I have run into is that the Desktop is drawn larger than the viewable area of the monitor. The Menu Bar is not visible, half the Dock is not visible and the right and left edges are off screen. Below is what I have tried:

- adjusting Sys Prefs / Display, it is treating my Vizio as 1080p TV only, connected wit a HDMI cable,
- I can not find overscan as one article suggested,
- it is not in full screen, turning o full screen loses more of the image,
- one unexplored option is to change from HDMI cable to Lightning port on the mini to a VGA port on the Vizio

My question and options are to fix this in High Sierra, 10.13, and if so how. Or just upgrading to 10.14 or 10.15 to see if someone can tell me it that will fix it with certainty. I have no affinity for 10.13 and intend to get to 10.15, asap. A lot of things were excluded when I migrated from 10.7.5, and it is almost like learning a new OS.
