Previous to this, I didn¡¯t even know that there WAS a version of Microsoft Defender for the Macintosh. You will have to research it on the Web to see if it might be the source of your problems.

Sorry, I¡¯m now told that you have an SSD. Please disregard the above advice. SSD¡¯s can¡¯t be defragmented and one should never try, because defragmentation routines would damage an SSD.
