Hi
Can you boot it up in target mode and copy the information?
Perhaps a bootable system with SuperDuper and/or Carbon Copy Cloner and make a copy of the system to an external drive? That way you won¡¯t lose information as you do a fresh installation of the system, then use migration assistant for the Applications and user folder?

If not, try Finder > Go > Go to Folder > /private/var/log
and see what's in there.?
Next step is to use Finder to drill down. Start with opt-cmd-i on Macintosh HD (for whatever your drive is called) then move down through the folder hierarchy, getting?the size for each.

Each time I bump up the available storage by deleting or transferring to an external drive, the gain starts disappearing.?
Now, I¡¯m afraid, the end is near. Available memory is 5 MB. Safari won¡¯t open any web sites, Time Machine fails on backup, and I can¡¯t run any software. I¡¯ve done all the tests my resources allowed and now the OS doesn¡¯t allow me to do anything at all. Looks like I¡¯ll have to do a clean install. Since my most recent successful backup was over a week ago, I¡¯m going to lose a lot of recent financial and message records. Without the ability to back up, I can¡¯t figure out a way to save the last week¡¯s files. I¡¯m sure not looking forward to this.?
BTW, I can¡¯t increase the storage BBC SSD because in the 2017 MacBook Pro it is soldered in place. Besides, as the System eats up more and more storage, increasing the amount of storage would only delay the inevitable.
