Re: Keyboard chaos #Hardware #Resolved

Budd, why are you not replying to the group? Don't you want to share a possible answer with the group?

He replied back that my suggestion did not work and he is going to try with Apple. He has not replied to the list on whether Dan's suggestion?worked or not, but apparently not. My guess would be that Dan's suggestions might be difficult to perform without a working wired keyboard. But we, as a group, can only guess that.

I find the third suggestion, very improbable, as it used to be that a USB keyboard would slow down that buss or circuit of USB, and so should not be combined with other USB devices other than the pointing device. That could have changed in later OS than the one I am using, but I think it is a hardware thing, not software. It did show why not to combine them.?

The only things that I can think is that either the code or the prefs for that part of the startup got corrupted in the improper shut off by the power failure, or the USB circuits on his 2009 iMac or keyboard got damaged in the power surge when the power came back on.

Budd, please let the list know what the outcome of the talk with Apple is.

This afternoon, we had a power outage for ~1/2 hour.
With power back on, I turned on the iMac.? Now it is searching for a Bluetooth keyboard. I have a wired Apple Extended keyboard connected, but unplugging/replugging did no good.? I remembered the ZAGG BT keyboard for my iPad.? Once they connected I can??type through it to and?log in.?
But I am unable to find a way in preferences to re-enable the .wired keyboard.
If I disable the ZAGG, the iMac goes back into searching mode.
If I go into System Preferences - Keyboard - Change Keyboard Type: No choices.
If I go into System Preferences - Keyboard - Modifier Keys - Select Keyboard: No choices.
Suggestions?
